A seasoned industry-leader, Tim Sand brings 25-plus years benefits outsourcing and operational experience to the Benefitfocus team. As the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Customer Operations, Tim is passionate about ensuring our customers receive excellent service throughout their journey, including the best possible open enrollment. Tim’s deep industry experience includes leading teams to implement more than 1,000 customers in large, medium and small markets over the course of his career.
Roles & Responsibilities
Tim’s background in benefits outsourcing, global operations and health care exchanges make him the ideal leader of our professional services teams, open enrollment planning and delivery, and our COBRA and direct billing center of excellence. As a companywide governance program, Tim works with the team to enable insights and coordination at the highest level. Additionally, he partners closely with our product, engineering and data teams to drive best-in-class customer experiences.

A proud alumnus of The Ohio State University, Tim received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and was a member of Alpha Pi Mu, the Industrial Engineering Honor Society. Prior to joining the Benefitfocus team in 2021, Tim served as Chief Operating Officer at ConnectYourCare, and was responsible for all company operations, including client services, account management, implementation, claim and COBRA administration, and the contact center.
