Dr. Thomas J. Lynch, Jr., also known as Tom, M.D., has been the Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Research & Development at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company since March 16, 2017. Dr. Lynch has served as Chairman and Chief Executive officer of Massachusetts General Physicians Organization since July 2015. Dr. Lynch has been Physician-in-Chief at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Inc., since April 1, 2009. Dr. Lynch was the Richard and Jonathan Sackler Professor of Internal Medicine, Yale Cancer Center, Yale School of Medicine since 2009 until 2015. Prior to Yale, Dr. Lynch served as a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Hematology/Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Cancer Center and served as Director of the Thoracic Oncology Center and Deputy Chair of Hematology-Oncology Medical staff. He serves as a Director of Bristol-Myers Squibb Farmac???utica Portuguesa, SA. He serves as a Director of Yale Cancer Center and Medarex, Inc. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at SillaJen Biotherapeutics, Inc. He serves as a Director of Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He serves as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Arvinas, Inc. He has also served as a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Board since 2015. He served as an Independent Director of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company since 2013 until March 15, 2017. In 1996, he helped to found The Boston-Based Kenneth B. Schwartz Center for the Promotion of Caregiver/Patient Relations and became Vice Chair of Board of Directors in 2006. Dr. Lynch has made important contributions in developmental therapeutics and in defining the optimal treatment for patients with lung cancer. He has pioneered the use of molecular testing for mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor gene to select patients who can benefit from targeted lung cancer therapies. A Professor of Medicine, he is an expert in the treatment of lung cancer with a special interest in personalized medicine. He is internationally known for his leadership in the development of novel therapies for the treatment of lung cancer. He serves as a Director on the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare and the Pearlpoint Foundation. Dr. Lynch is a Member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. He is on the editorial boards of the journal, Clinical Cancer Research and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He completed his internship and residency at MGH and after serving a fellowship in medical oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, he joined the medical staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1993. Dr. Lynch received his undergraduate degree from Yale College in 1982 and his MD degree from Yale School of Medicine in 1986.
