I can't log in to my Coursera account
If you can't log in to your Coursera account:
Make sure you're using the right email address.
Try resetting your password.
My email address isn't working
If you see a message that says "We couldn't find an account associated with that email address" when you try to log in or change your password, the problem could be:
You used a different address when you made your Coursera account. If you have a different email address, try using that one.
You mis-typed your email address when you made your Coursera account. Try entering common typos or variations on your email address.
A course I enrolled in is missing from my account
If you can't find a new course after you enroll, check your Enrollments tabfor a list of your enrolled courses.
My Coursera email was changed without my permission

View ArticleYou only need to set up ID Verification to get a certificate for a Degree, MasterTrack, or Professional Certificate course. All other courses use Name Verification. ID Verification applies to all courses you take, so you only need to fill it out once.
Coursera uses a third party tool called Jumio Netverify for ID Verification. You can learn more about Jumio Netverify on their FAQ page.
If you're having problems with your identity verification, try our verification troubleshooting page.
To set up ID verification, you’ll need to provide:
Your full name
A clear image of your valid, government-issued photo ID
A clear photo of your face
All images must be less than 1mb and .jpg or .png formats.
Valid photo IDs must:
Be current (not expired)
Be originals (not a photocopy)
Be government issued
Be from a non-restricted country
Show your full name and birthdate
Include a clear photo of your face
IDs you can use for your Verification Profile are:
Driver's license
Passport
National ID Card
To set up ID Verification:
Log in to your Coursera account.
Click the drop-down menu next to your name in the top right and choose Settings. Or, go directly to your settings page.
Scroll to the “ID Verification” section.
If you need to complete your ID Verification, you’ll see a Verify My ID button. If you don’t see that button, you’re not in any courses that require ID verification.
Click Verify My ID and follow the steps on screen.
What happens when you verify your ID
ID Verification usually takes less than 24 hours to process. Once your ID Verification is approved, your Settings page will update.
If your ID Verification is not approved, you will get an email to the email address you use for your Coursera account letting you know about the issue. You can also check the status of your ID Verification on your account page.
When you submit your ID information, we make sure your information is secure. After we verify your ID, the photo of the ID you submitted will get deleted. You can read more about our privacy policies in our Terms of Service.
View ArticleIf you've signed in to Coursera with different email addresses, you may have accidentally made multiple accounts.
To check for another account with a different email address:
Open your Account Settings page.
Carefully check the email address listed. Look for possible typos. Even a misplaced period will make a different account.
If you use Coursera on multiple devices, check this across all your devices to make sure you're using the same email address.
If your account isn't linked to Facebook, you may have accidentally created a second account by clicking the Log in with Facebook button.
To check for another account with Facebook log-in:
Open your Account Settings page.
Scroll down to the Linked Accounts section and check for a message that says "Your account is linked to Facebook, would you like to de-link it."
If you see this message, log out of this account and log back in with your original email and password.
Manage multiple accounts
Using multiple accounts violates our Honor Code, so we can't combine work across different accounts or make exceptions for deadlines missed as a result of creating multiple accounts.
You can't transfer payments or Course Certificates between different accounts.
If you find out that you have two Coursera accounts, you will need to choose one account to use, then resubmit any assignments completed withthe other account. You can delete your extra account.
View ArticleA Coursera Specialization is a series of related courses designed to help you master a specific topic.
Some shorter Specializations include as few as three courses and only take a few months to finish. Longer Specializations can include ten or more courses and take up to a year.
You can begin a Specialization by enrolling in the entire specialization or a single course in the Specialization.
Specialization Certificates
When you finish and pay for a Specialization, you get a Specialization Certificate. You'll also get Course Certificates for each course you complete in a Specialization.
Capstone Projects
All Specializations includea hands-on Capstone Project, which may be made up of projects throughout the Specialization courses, or it may be a separate course in the Specialization. (Not all Capstone Projects are named "Capstone.")
You'll need to complete the Capstone Project to get credit for the Specialization. If your Specialization contains a separate Capstone Project course, you'll need to earn Certificates in all the other courses in the Specialization before you can take the Capstone Project.
Industry partners
Some Specializations are offered in collaboration with Coursera's Global Skills Initiative industry partners.
Industry partners may support the Specialization in different ways, including:
Providing data or case studies for Capstone Project prompts
Contributing content through guest lectures or co-development of course materials
Offering perks or rewards to learners who submit outstanding projects
Assisting with course production funding

View ArticleTo see translated subtitles for a video, turn subtitles on and choose the language you want to see subtitles in.
You can see what languages are available for a course by checking the course's description page. If a language is listed, that means at least 80\% of the course's video subtitles have been translated. When you search for courses, you can filter your search to find courses that have translations in certain languages.
Not all videos have subtitles in all languages. Coursera currently has limited support for right-to-left languages.
Subtitle translations are done by Coursera's Global Translator Community. Although our GTC members work hard to create high quality translations, Coursera doesn'tguarantee that all translations will be complete and accurate.
Help translate Coursera videos
You can help translate Coursera videos by joining the GTC.
We use a third-party platform called Smartling to enable translation projects. Before you start translating Coursera materials, you'll be prompted by Smartling to authorize authentication. You will be able to proceed to the Smartling platform once you approve.
To ensure a smooth GTC signup process, please make sure your account has a first and last name associated with it.
Changing your account email will result in a separate Smartling account, and you may not see your translated word count increase. This is because your progress is being tracked on the new account. Please avoid changing your account email if possible.

View ArticleIf you start taking a course for free, you can pay for the course any time. After you pay for a course, any assignments you submitted before paying will count toward your Certificate.
Pre-enrollment payment policies
Some courses let you pre-enroll and pay the course fee before the course opens.
If you pay for a new course before the start date of the course, your refund, Certificate eligibility, and feature access periods will start on the course's start date, not on your payment date.
Coursepayment policies
When you pay for a course, your payment will expire 180 days from the payment date, or 180 days from the start date of the course, whichever is later. During this 180-day period, you may attempt the course multiple times.
If you don't earn your Certificate within 180 days, you'll need to pay the fee again.
This expiration policy may be different for some courses. Check your course's information page and your payment confirmation email for any exceptions.
Specializationpayment policies
Pre-payment for Specializations
To pre-pay for a Specialization, you will need to do so when you enroll in the Specialization or when you enroll in your first course in the Specialization.
Some Specializations let you pre-enroll and pay before the first course in the Specialization begins. If you pay before the start date, your refund and Specialization Certificate eligibility periods will begin on the course's start date, not on your payment date.
If you pre-pay for an entire Specialization, your payment will expire one year (365 days) from the payment date, or one year from the date that the first course in the Specialization opens, whichever is later. You can find information about your payment dates on your My Purchases page.
During this one-year period, you may attempt multiple retakes of any course in the Specialization.
If you don't earn your Specialization Certificate within one year, you'll get Course Certificates for each course you finished. You'll need to pay the individual fees for any courses you haven't finished.
If you choose to pay by course for a Specialization, the course payment policies apply each time you pay for a separate course.
These expiration policies may be different for some Specializations. Check your Specialization's information page and your payment confirmation email for any exceptions.
Subscriptionpayment policies
When you subscribe to a Coursera Specialization, you'll be charged every month until you earn a Specialization Certificate by completing all the courses in that Specialization, or cancel your subscription.
When you subscribe to the entire Coursera catalog, you’ll be charged every month until you cancel the subscription. You’ll be able to enroll in the paid version of any Coursera course as long as your subscription is active. Unenrolling in courses will not cancel your subscription.
Subscribing to a single course
When you subscribe to a course that is part of a Specialization, you will be automatically subscribed to the entire Specialization. If you are just interested in a single course, you will need to cancel your subscription after completing this course in order to stop the recurring monthly charge.
Subscription cancellation policies
You can cancel a subscription any time. Canceling a subscription means that access to the Specialization will stop after the last billing period and that there will be no payments in the future. There are no partial refunds for subscriptions, so you'll need to cancel before your next payment date.
Subscriptions to incomplete Specializations
Subscribing to a Specialization gives you access to all courses in that Specialization that are on Coursera. You can check a Specialization description page to see when we think any unlaunched courses will be available on Coursera.
If you have completed all of the available courses, we recommend you cancel your subscription until the rest of the courses are available. You'll keep your Course Certificates, and any progress in courses where you haven’t yet earned a Certificate will be saved for when you re-subscribe.
View ArticleIf you paid for an individual course or a Coursera Plus subscription, you can request a refund within 2 weeks of your payment. You can’t get a refund if you’ve already earned a Course Certificate or if 2 weeks have already passed.
If you subscribed to a Course or a Specialization, your subscription payments are not refundable, but you can cancel the subscription to end future payments.

View ArticleIf you decide not to complete a course or Specialization that you've paid for, Coursera may be able to refund your payment depending on our refund policies.
You can read our refund policies in full in Coursera's Terms of Use.
Refunds after free trials
If you starta free trial, the free trial begins before you are first charged, so there are no payments to be refunded. You can't get a refund for any payments made after your free trial ends.
Course refund policies
In most cases, if you pay for a Course Certificate, you can request a refund within 2 weeks (14 days) after your payment.
If you pay for a Course Certificate when pre-enrolling for a course that isn’t available yet, your two-week refund period begins on the start date of the course.
Once you have earned your Course Certificate, you are no longer eligible for a refund, even if you earn your Certificate within the two-week refund period.
Specialization refund policies
If you pay by course for a Specialization, the refund policies for course payments apply to each course payment you make.
If you pre-pay for a Specialization, you can request a full refund up to two weeks after your payment date.
If you pre-enroll and pay before the first course in the Specialization begins, you can request a refund up to two weeks after the listed start date of the first course.
You cannot get a refund for a Specialization pre-payment if you've already earned a Course Certificate for any course in the Specialization, even if you earn your Certificate within two weeks.
Partial refunds
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer partial refunds for Specialization pre-payments. If you aren't sure you'll want to complete the entire Specialization, we recommend you pay by course.
Subscription and Coursera Plus refund policies
Because all Course or Specialization subscriptions begin with free trials, you can't get a refund for a payment made on a subscription after the free trial ends.
If you don't want to pay for a subscription anymore, you can cancel the subscription. There are no partial refunds for subscriptions, so you'll need to cancel before your next payment date.
Coursera Plus subscriptions do not begin with a free trial. You can request a refund for a Coursera Plus subscription payment within fourteen days of making the payment. To request a Coursera Plus refund, contact Coursera using the Learner Help Center.
Third party marketplace refund policies
If you pay for something on Coursera, but your payment information goes through a different website, you may be using a third party marketplace.
When you purchase a Course or Specialization Certificate through a third-party marketplace, that third party marketplace's refund policy applies unless explicitly stated by Coursera.
For example, to request a refund for a Course or Specialization Certificate you purchased through Apple's app store, you'll need to reach out to Apple.

To enroll in a course:
Open the course information page by clicking on the course title from the Coursera catalog.

Follow the instructions to enroll in the course. You may have the option for a free trial.
If you want to audit the course instead, look for theAudit option on the course page. Not all courses include this option.

To see all your course enrollments:
Open coursera.org. Make sure you're logged in.
On the left sidebar, click Enrollments.
Find the "My Courses" section to see courses you're enrolled in.
If you enroll in a paid option for any course in a Specialization, you'll see all courses in the Specialization on your Coursera home page, even if you haven't enrolled in or paid for them.
Enroll in a single course in a Specialization
Some Coursera courses are part of Specializations, a series of related courses designed to help you master a specific topic.
You can take individual courses in a Specialization without having to complete the entire Specialization. You will get a Course Certificate for every individual course you complete, whether or not you finish the rest of the Specialization.
If the courses allow you to pay individually, you can pay for each course you want to take without paying for the entire Specialization. If the Specialization requires a subscription, you can subscribe to the Specialization, take as many courses as you want in that Specialization, then cancel your subscription. You will still earn Course Certificates for the individual courses you finish.
Re-take a course
If you want to take a course again, you can re-take quizzes and exams and re-do assignments. Only your most recent grade will be counted. You can’t delete your coursework or reset your progress in a course you’ve already started.
View ArticleWhen you enroll in a course, you'll see different payment options for that course. You may also see an option to use Coursera Plus to subscribe to the Coursera catalog.
Many courses on Coursera have an audit option, which lets you see most course materials for free.
When you audit a course:
You'll be able to see most of the course materials for free, but you won't be able to submit certain assignments or get grades for your work.
You won't be able to submit assignments for feedback or a grade.
You won't get a Course Certificate.
To audit a course:
Open the home page of the course you want to audit
Click Enroll
At the bottom of the window, click audit or choose the "Audit only" option
Missing audit option
If you don’t see the audit option:
The course may not offer an audit option. You can try a Free Trial instead, or apply for Financial Aid.
The course may offer "Full Course, No Certificate" instead. This option lets you see all course materials, submit required assessments, and get a final grade. You won't get a Course Certificate if you choose this option.
You may be on a Specialization home page. Only courses offer the audit option. Try checking a course page for a course in the Specialization that you want to take.
Payments after audits
You can upgrade to a paid Certificate at any time during or after your audit.
If you pay for a Certificate in a course you’ve already taken, any grades you already earned will be saved, but you may need to complete more coursework that wasn’t available in the audit version.
When you take a course for a Certificate:
You'll need to pay for the course.
You'll be able to see all the course materials
You'll be able to see and submit all the required assignments.
If you complete all the assignments, you'll get a Course Certificate.
You can take any single course for a Certificate, even if that course is part of a Specialization. If you decide to take the Specialization later, you can count this class toward your Specialization.
When you subscribe to a Specialization:
You'll be charged every month until you complete the Specialization by earning a Certificate in all courses in that Specialization, or until you cancel your subscription
You'll be able to access all course materials for every course in that Specialization for as long as your subscription is active
You can cancel your subscription anytime
You'll get a Specialization Certificate when you complete every course in the Specialization you subscribed to
When you pre-pay for an entire Specialization:
You'll have paid access to all the courses in the Specialization.
You'll be able see all the materials for courses in that Specialization
When you pass each course, you'll get a Course Certificate for that course.
You'll have one year (unless the course information says something different) to complete the Specialization and earn your Specialization Certificate by earning Course Certificates for all the courses and completing the Capstone Project.

I can't submit my assignment
If you're having trouble submitting an assignment, make sure:
You're submitting the right assignment in the right session
You're uploading the right kind of file (check the assignment information for any file type requirements)
The file size isn't too big (we recommend files smaller than 10MB)
You're using a recommended browser
You've added https: to any URLs
You can also try uploading your assignment from a different network configuration (home vs. work) or checking your Firewall settings.
I submitted my assignment, but it's missing
If you submitted your assignment, but you don't see a confirmation that you submitted it, you may have saved it as a draft instead of submitting.
To check for a saved draft on Coursera's new platform:
Open the course the assignment is in.
Click Assignments and open the assignment you want to check for a saved draft.
Click My submission.
If your assignment has been saved as a draft, you'll be able to see and edit it. If you can see your assignment, but you can't edit it, that means you submitted the assignment.
To submit your saved draft, click Submitat the bottom of the page. If your assignment was submitted but you didn't pass, you can choose Retake.
If you don't see any record of an assignment that you're sure you submitted:
You may have accidentally created a second Coursera account and submitted the assignment from that account. Try checking for a second account.
You may need to clear your cache & cookies, then re-load the page, to see the update after you submit an assignment.
I don't have a grade for my assignment
If you submitted an assignment, but don't see a grade for it:
Try refreshing the page.
Peer reviewed assignments won't have a grade until they have enough peer reviews. On the "Grades" page, assignments that have been submitted but haven't gotten a grade will say "Submitted."
Check to make sure you have submitted the assignment.
If you don't have a grade for a programming assignment, check the troubleshooting steps for programming assignments.
I don't understand or agree with my grade
If you have a grade for an assignment that you don't understand or you think is unfair:
Check the course page for grading information and requirements.
Try re-submitting the assignment to be graded again.
Ask a question in the discussion forums for the course.
If you got peer feedback that you don't think is appropriate, you can report it.
If you think your grade is wrong because of an error in the course materials, you can flag it.
Because grading requirements for each course are set by the instructor, the Coursera support team can't explain or change your grade for an assignment.
My assignment is locked
If your assignment is locked:
You may need to finish an earlier assignment before you can start on that assignment. Check the assignment page for information about how to unlock it.
Check your "My Purchases" page to make sure that your payment has not expired.
If an assignment in a Degree course is locked, you may need to wait for the course staff to unlock the assignment.

If the Capstone Project for a Specialization is a separate project, you'll need to enroll in the project just like a course.
Many capstone courses require you to have earned Course Certificates for all other courses in that Specialization. If you are having trouble enrolling in a capstone course, check your Accomplishments page to make sure you have Course Certificates for all the other courses in that Specialization.
Capstone courses don’t offer the audit option. If the course home page for a capstone course is missing the audit option, you’ll need to pay for the course to access course materials.
To join a Capstone once you've earned Course Certificates for all the courses in that Specialization:
From your Coursera account, click Enrollments.
Click on the Specialization you want to enroll in the Capstone Project for.
Click the Capstone Project course title at the bottom of the Specialization course list.
To join the course, click Enroll.
If you paid in advance for the entire Specialization, your Capstone course fee is included in your Specialization fee. If you're paying by course, you'll needto pay for the Capstone when you enroll.
Capstone Project grading
Some Capstone Projects are peer-graded using Coursera's standard peer grading system. Other Capstone Projects are automatically graded or graded by experts.
In some Specializations, you will be evaluated only on your final project submission. In other Specializations, you will get separate grades for each section of the project.
To receive a passing grade for the Capstone, you will need to:
Receive a passing grade for the final project and any required sections.
Complete all required evaluations of your peers' work.
Length of Capstone Projects
Capstone Projects vary in length, but you can expect to spend about 4 to 8 weeks working on your project, making revisions, and reviewing the work of your peers. Most Capstone Projects require about 40 hours of total work time.
Awards and incentives
In some Specializations, learners who submit outstanding Capstone Projects may be eligible for awards and incentives provided by academic and industry partners.
Examples of awards and incentives include:
Virtual discussions with instructors or industry leaders
Promotion of the project in key publications or channels
Fee waivers for partner programs
Incentives are offered at the discretion of the Specialization creators and sponsors, and are not guaranteed in all Specializations or Capstone courses.

View ArticleSome Coursera courses are part of Specializations, a series of related courses designed to help you master a specific topic.
View ArticleSome courses use third-party tools to add extra features to their courses. Your instructor should provide more information about third-party tools through course announcements, readings and videos, or other resources.
These tools are integrated with Coursera through the Learning Technologies Interoperability (LTI) framework.
Sign in to a third-party tool
When you use a third-party tool, you’ll be asked to share your Coursera user ID, full name, and/or registered email address with the third-party tool provider.
This information is used to log into the tool through your Coursera account. Your work using the third-party tool will be linked to your Coursera's profile, which lets your instructor track your progress and give you Coursera credit for your work.
Security of third-party tools
Coursera takes all possible steps to protect the security of information shared with third-party tools. However, the third-party tool provider is ultimately responsible for the security and functionality of the tool itself.
Solve problems with third-party tools
If you're having trouble with third-party tools in a course, try posting in the discussion forum for that course.
Instructors are responsible for documenting and maintaining tools integrated with their courses, so Coursera's support team will usually not be able to help with troubleshooting issues.

View ArticleDegree courses on Coursera are offered in sessions. Each session has a specific start date, and learners in the same session move through the course together according to a schedule of deadlines.
In Degree courses, assignments have hard deadlines. Your grade will be affected if you turn in an assignment after the due date.
Some Degree courses let you switch sessions if you fall behind. Others are on a fixed schedule and do not allow session switching. Check your program's Onboarding Course for more information.
Enroll in a session
When you enroll in a session-based course, you may have the option to:
Enroll for the current session
Enroll for an upcoming session
Pre-enroll for the course
If you enroll in a course during a session that has already started, you may not be able to join the current session. Instead, you'll be enrolled for an upcoming session. You won't be able switch sessions to join the current session.
Some sessions close for enrollment a certain number of days after the session starts. If enrollment in a session has closed, you’ll need to pre-enroll, which lets you wait until enrollment in the next session opens.
When you pre-enroll or enroll for an upcoming session, you'll be able to see that course's videos, readings, and some assignments before the session starts. You'll need to wait until the session starts to take peer-reviewed assignments or post in the forums.
Find the next session for a course
Each course has its own schedule of sessions, but most courses have sessions every 4-6 weeks.
To see when the next session will begin for a course, check that course's information page.
Session deadlines
Mostassignments can be submitted at any time before the session ends, unless your degree course syllabus or Onboarding Course says otherwise. However, you might not get enough peer reviews on peer-reviewed assignments if you submit them late.
View ArticleJupyter Notebooks are a third-party tool that some Coursera courses use for programming assignments.
You can revert your code or get a fresh copy of your Jupyter Notebook mid-assignment. By default, Coursera persistently stores your work within each notebook.
To keep your old work and also get a fresh copy of the initial Jupyter Notebook, clickFile, thenMake a copy.
We recommend keeping a naming convention such as “Assignment 1 - Initial” or “Copy” to keep your notebook environment organized. You can also download this file locally.
Refresh your notebook
Rename your existing Jupyter Notebook within the individual notebook view
In the notebook view, add “?forceRefresh=true” to the end of your notebook URL
Reload the screen
You will be directed to your home Learner Workspace where you’ll see both old and new Notebook files.
Your Notebook lesson item will now launch to the fresh notebook.
Find missing work
If your Jupyter Notebook files have disappeared, it means the course staff published a new version of a given notebook to fix problems or make improvements. Your work is still saved under the original name of the previous version of the notebook.
To recover your work:
Find your current notebook version by checking the top of the notebook window for the title
In your Notebook view, click the Coursera logo
Find and click the name of your previous file
Unsaved work
"Kernels" are the execution engines behind the Jupyter Notebook UI. As kernels time out after 90 minutes of notebook activity, be sure to save your notebooks frequently to prevent losing any work. If the kernel times out before the save, you may lose the work in your current session.
How to tell if your kernel has timed out:
Error messages such as "Method Not Allowed" appear in the toolbar area.
The last save or auto-checkpoint time shown in the title of the notebook window has not updated recently
Your cells are not running or computing when you “Shift + Enter”
To restart your kernel:
Save your notebook locally to store your current progress
In the notebook toolbar, click Kernel, then Restart
Try testing your kernel by running a print statement in one of your notebook cells. If this is successful, you can continue to save and proceed with your work.
If your notebook kernel is still timed out, try closing your browser and relaunching the notebook. When the notebook reopens, you will need to do "Cell -> Run All" or "Cell -> Run All Above" to regenerate the execution state.
Download and save Jupyter Notebooks
You can download and save your Jupyter notebooks on your computer by following the instructions here.
View ArticleIf you applied for Financial Aid or a Scholarship but did not get it, here are some things you can try:
Make sure it submitted successfully. After you submit your application, you will get a confirmation email from Coursera letting you know that we got your application. If you did not get this email, your application did not go through, and you will need to apply again.
Check for a free trial or subscription. If you start a free trial for a subscription that includes the course you applied for, your application will be canceled.
Wait for the review period to be over. Applications take up to two weeks to review your application.
Check your email. If your application is denied, you’ll get an email letting you know. That email will explain why your application was denied, so you can fix the problem and apply again.
Make sure your Financial Aid or Scholarship is still active. Financial Aid is valid for 180 days after your application was approved. If you don’t complete the course and earn a Certificate within 180 days, you will need to apply for again or pay for the course.
