Mr. David M. Giles, also known as Dave, has been Chief Ethics Officer of The E. W. Scripps Company since December 1, 2010 and also serves as its Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. Mr. Giles served as an Associate General Counsel of EW Scripps since June 2004. He is an experienced media lawyer and former newspaper reporter. He previously represented Scripps as an Associate with the law firm of Baker & Hostetler, where over a 10-year period he worked with nearly all of Ew Scripps Co. newspapers and television stations. Mr. Giles also represented nationally known media clients such as FOX Television and Granite Broadcasting Co. Immediately prior to joining Scripps, he provided legal counsel to several clients as head of Strategic Media Management, a Denver-based consulting firm he established. He provided a number of specialized legal and consulting services, including training seminars for editorial members of the Inland Press Association. Before completing his Law degree, he worked four years as a Reporter of Philadelphia Inquirer and USA Today. He is a member of the Virginia, District of Columbia and Colorado state bars. Mr. Giles is a 1992 graduate of Washington and Lee School of Law. He has a Masters degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor's degree in Government from St. Lawrence University.
