William Appleton — Executive VP & General Counsel at E.W. Scripps Company

Mr. William Appleton, also known as Bill, has been General Counsel of The E. W. Scripps Company (alternate name EW Scripps Co) since July 1, 2008 and as its Executive Vice President since August 2017. Mr. Appleton served as Senior Vice President of The E. W. Scripps Company (alternate name EW Scripps Co) from July 1, 2008 to August 2017 and also served as its Chief Legal Officer. He served as a Managing Partner of Cincinnati Office of Baker & Hostetler LLP. from 2003 to 2008. He was with Baker & Hostetler LLP since its inception in 1997. Mr. Appleton has extensive experience in advising public and private companies on a broad range of corporate and securities laws matters. He has managed the legal work in mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, spin-offs and reorganizations involving public and private companies. He counseled companies with respect to corporate governance and takeover defense matters, including the adoption of poison pills. He represented numerous clients in initial and secondary public offerings, private placements, Rule 144A offerings and venture capital transactions. He serves as Co-Chairman of Baker & Hostetler's and is Responsible for Approving its Securities Law Matters. Mr. Appleton began his career with Baker & Hostetler in Cleveland in 1978.
