Edmunds.com employees answer questions about what life is like behind the scenes at their company, including queries about culture, leadership, professional development, and compensation.

How employees describe working at Edmunds.com

A successful profitable team project.

Heavily micromanaged. Thet emphasize ROWE but it's not true ROWE by definition. Felt overwhlemed and was always in fear of the next mistake to be pointed out. Feedback was constant and some management was condescending.

Less discrimination and retaliation would be nice.

Review from Product Dept

Gotta be the work/life balance.

Review from Product Dept

My experience at Edmunds has been a positive one. I've seen the company go through ups and downs but overall upper management understand how important their employees are to the success of the company in the automotive tech space.

  • its Bipolar - the company is having issues with growing revenue and that creates a micromanaging culture where c-suite/outside consultants take over projects. Those are the same people that made poor decisions in the past. Some teams that are run more autonomously are fun with good people and able to create meaningful results.

Asked to all employees at Edmunds.com

  • I'm ambivalent. Management is finally making good decisions about the website, the user experience and committing to a worthwhile mission, but killing ROWE (where employees could work whenever, wherever) without replacing it with an actual vacation time policy is kinda the worst of both worlds, and I think it's likely to lead to some turnover, and it makes Edmunds a tougher sell for prospective talent.

Asked to all employees at Edmunds.com

  • The culture is great. I think the one thing I'd improve is getting everyone on board with their key metrics. i.e. inventory sales have metric X, ads have metric Y and have everyone understand how their role contributes to those metrics. EBITDA and other metrics are great for accountants but make most people's eyes glaze over.

Asked to all employees at Edmunds.com

  • It all depends. Some people have great life/work balance and while it is a ROWE culture, that culture can shackle one to their laptop since there is not defined stopping point.

Asked to all employees at Edmunds.com

  • I think most people admire Avi. He's genial and easy going. What might be missing is an inspiring vision for the growth of the company. Part of that is in the industry (cars are at an inflection point), part of that is not understanding how we can take on the larger car shopping space.
