Ember's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 64 most popular questions Ember receives.
Power ON - Press the power button located on the bottom of the Ember Mug or Ember Mug. You will see the LED illuminate a white light.
Power OFF - Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds until the LED dims to an OFF state.
*Note: To make sure the mug is OFF you can pick it up to see if the white light shows up. If it does not, repeat the steps and attempt to power it OFF again.
Sleep Mode -Once you turn ON the Ember, you do not need power it on again. The Ember will go to sleep when it's empty, and will wake up as soon as you pick it up.
View ArticleIf your Ember continues to disconnect or is unable to reconnect with your mobile device, there are a few quick steps that can be taken to allow a successful re-pairing and/or re-connection from your mobile device to your Ember Mug.
Step 1: Toggle Bluetooth
Turn the bluetooth OFF on your mobile device from the bluetooth settings. After doing so, please allow at least 30 seconds in the OFF state before proceeding to turn ON the bluetooth connectivity.
Step 2: Perform a Factory Reset on your Ember
The factory reset will remove all possible corrupt data that is preventing bluetooth connection.
To do this, press and hold the power button on the bottom of the mug for about 14 seconds until you see the LED flash red. After the red light is seen, please release the power button and allow the mug to pulse back to white.
Step 3: Remove from Bluetooth Settings
The “Ember Mug” will still be visible in your bluetooth settings after a reset is performed.
You will need to remove and forget the previous bluetooth connection for any device that may still be connected to the Ember. If any previous connection still exists in your bluetooth stack, Ember will be unable to re-connect with your mobile device.
To do this:
If Android:
1. Go to settings.
2. Click on bluetooth.
3. Click on the settings gear associated to the Ember Mug.
4. Click on Un-pair.
If iOS:
1. Go to settings
2. Click on Bluetooth
3. Click on the Ember Mug information button
4. Forget this device
There are many times, having multiple bluetooth connections or previous connection attempts can affect how a new device connects.
Step 4: Pair your Ember
Once all of these steps are done, please proceed with pairing your mug and the problem will be fixed.

View ArticleWe have received feedback from customers that there are times when your mug may become unpaired with your phone. This can be quite annoying and troublesome. We have worked on this, and have released an update that addresses these connectivity issues for both iPhone and Android phones.
IMPORTANT: If you have not done so already, please update your mug to the latest firmware. You should be on firmware 271 or later. If you are having problems staying connected in order to do the update, please follow the steps below to re-connect your mug, then perform the update.
Try the following steps to re-connect your mug:
Confirm the Ember Mug is Powered ON
If you are experiencing difficulty reconnecting your Ember Mug to your mobile device please first confirm that your Ember is powered ON.You can ensure your mug is ready for use by giving it a light shake while off the charging coaster to move the internal accelerometer. This will illuminate the LED for a brief moment if the Ember is powered ON and ready to connect. If no LED activity is seen, giving the power button a single press will power on your Ember.

Toggle Bluetooth
Turn the Bluetooth OFF on your mobile device from the bluetooth settings. After doing so, please allow at least 30 seconds in the OFF state before proceeding to turn ON the bluetooth connectivity. (Please note that toggling the bluetooth from the control center on iOS devices vs with the bluetooth settings will not successfully perform the proper procedures that need to be completed).
To ensure the connectivity is working, allowing the Bluetooth to completely power OFF and power back ON will assure a working connected device.
Force close the Ember application
iPhone 8 or earlier
Double-click the Home button to show your most recently uses apps.
Swipe right or left to find the Ember app.
Swipe up on the app's preview to close the Ember app.
iPhone X:
From the Home screen,swipe up and pause.
Firmly touch and hold the app, then tap the red circle with the minus sign. You can also swipe up to close the app as soon as you seethe red circle with the minus sign.
On Android:
Tap the Recent Apps key, which is left of the home button or on your screen.
Scroll up or down to locate the Ember App.
Swipe from the left or right tocloseapps or press close all to close all open apps.
This will clear the app.
Power off the Ember Mug and Power it back on
To power the Ember OFF, press and hold the power button located on the bottom of the Ember Mug for 4-5 seconds until the LED fades to OFF. You can confirm the Ember is fully powered OFF by giving it a light shake. If the Ember is still ON, the LED will illuminate when it detects movement.
Once the Ember is successfully powered OFF, proceed with powering the Ember back ON. To do so, press the same power button once and the LED will illuminate.
Open Ember App
Once these steps are performed, proceed with opening the Ember application. Once the application is up, tap the Ember mug icon to re-initiate connection.

View ArticleThe Ember Travel mug display is an LED-lit display that will let you know what your Ember is doing. Below are the various displays that may be seen during normal use of the mug.
Tap Display Interactions:
Tap the Ember Logo 1x to see the current temperature of the liquid in the Ember. If no liquid is present, the Ember will display EMPTY or COLD
Tap the Ember Logo 2x to see mug's name. This can be customized in the settings section of the Ember App
Tap the Ember Logo 3x to see the Ember's current battery level
EMBER: Displayed as the default name seen when double tapping the touch logo (a custom name can be set through the Ember App)
HELLO: Displayed when the Ember Mug is powering ON.
EMPTY: Displayed when the thermal sensors are not recognizing a change in temperature present in the inner vessel. This notification may also show if liquid is not present or the temperature rapidly decreases (caused by adding cold creamer).
COLD: Heaters are turned off in this mode
OFF?: Displayed when a user presses or holds the touch logo for 3-4 seconds, awaiting confirmation to power OFF. To confirm powering OFF the Ember, tap the touch logo while ""OFF?"" to confirm powering OFF the mug.
GOOD BYE: Displayed while the Ember is powering OFF.
PAIR: Displayed when the Ember is in pairing mode for a connection with the Ember mobile application. To enter to pairing mode, first power OFF the mug. Once powered down, press and hold the touch logo for 7-10 seconds until ""PAIR"" appears on the display.
UPDATING: Displayed when the Ember is processing a firmware update through the Ember mobile application.
ERROR: If the Ember displays "ERROR", a processing error has occurred. This is likely a result from an internal hardware problem, please reach out to us if this happens!
RESET: When the reset button (accessed via the pinhole on the bottom of the mug) is pressed and held for 10 seconds, this will be displayed as all stored data and paired devices are removed from the mugs memory.

Directly behindthe Ember logo is a capacitive touch sensor, this is how Ember will know when you are interacting with it.
To power OFF your Ember, press and hold the Ember logo for 3 seconds until the display shows "OFF?" then tap the logo to confirm. The display will show "GOOD BYE" informing you that your Ember Travel Mug has successfully powered OFF.

1. Download and launch the Ember app.
Note: You will not be able to pair the Ember Mug and Ember Mug without downloading the Ember app. If you decide to not utilize the Ember App, the out of box set temperature for the Ember is 130F (50C).
2. Proceed with pairing process steps and press +Pair New Device.
3. On your Ember mug, press and hold the power button on the base for 6-8 seconds until a blinking blue light appears. The blinking blue light is indicating that it is in pair mode.
4. Your phone will show “SEARCHING” then “FOUND” when it finds your Ember Mug.
5. Press Connect and Pair to finish pairing process.
6. If you are pairing Ember for the first time, you can log in using your Google+, Facebook, or personal email address to create an Ember account.
7. Now thatyou're connected, you may give your Ember a custom LED color to add a personal touch!

If a user pours in a drink hotter than their desired temperature, Ember's battery won’t be needed until their drink reaches the desired temperature. Once at the preferred temperature, the heaters in the Ember will turn on to regulate the temperature. This will allow you to also get the best battery life possible.

If the regular reset does not solve the issue, you can push the paper clip into the hole for 10 seconds to do a factory reset. 1. Let's download the Ember App! This will be located in theApp Store or Google Play Store and will be titled "Ember - Temperature Matters" Download here
2. Once downloaded, the Ember App will prompt you to "Select your Device", please select the Travel Mug. The App will then take you through some getting started steps. Please feel free to read these, or click skip in the lower right corner
3. Once you click skip, the Ember App will take you to a screen that says "Connect to your Ember." Since it is the first time pairing, directly below that, the Ember App will say "You have no Devices Paired" and "Pair New Device"*
4. On your Travel Mug, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds until the display shows "PAIR" to indicate it is in pair mode. Then click “PAIR NEW DEVICE” and your device will begin to actively search for the mug
5. Your phone will show “SEARCHING” then “FOUND” when it finds your Travel Mug.
6. Press Connect and Pair to finish pairing process.
7. If you are pairing Ember for the first time, you can log in using your Google+, Facebook, or personal email address to create an Ember account.

Ember does not warrant that the operation of the Product will be uninterrupted or error-free. This Warranty does not cover software embedded in any Product and related services provided by Ember or Bluetooth connectivity.
This Warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the Product that was purchased from an authorized reseller or authorized sales channel and manufactured by or for Ember and has an authorized “Ember” trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to it. The Warranty does not apply to any:
Non-Ember products, even if included or sold with a Product, including, without limitation, any counterfeit products
Purchased from an unauthorized distributor or reseller
Product(s) purchased from or used outside the country of sale
Product(s) missing a valid serial number
Products that are, or Ember reasonably believes to be, stolen
Consumables (such as batteries)

Normal wear and tear or aging of the Product

With improper voltage or power supply
No Ember reseller, distributor, agent or employee is authorized to make any modification, extension, or addition to this Warranty.
WHAT WILL EMBER DO IN THE EVENT THE WARRANTY IS BREACHED?
If during the Warranty Period you submit a claim to Ember, Ember will at its option:
Repair the Ember Product using new or previously used parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability
Replace the Ember Product with the same model (or with your consent a product that has similar functionality) formed from new and/or previously re-manufactured parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability
Exchange the Ember Product for a refund of your purchase price
In the event of such a claim, to the extent permitted by law, these are your sole and exclusive remedies. Shipping and handling charges may apply except where prohibited by applicable law. This Warranty is valid only in the jurisdictions where the Products are sold by Ember itself or through its authorized reseller or agent and is valid to the extent permitted by the applicable laws of such jurisdictions. Note: the Ember App is required to pair and update the Ember Mug, it cannot be paired through your smartphones bluetooth settings.
2. Once your Ember is paired, if there is an update available youwill seea notification upon opening the app. You will have an option to install now (recommended) or install later.
Note: Make sure your Ember is empty before starting the update.
3. If you previously chose to install later you can go back to the update in the setting on the top right corner. When in the settings, you will see "Mug Updates" with a number 1.To proceed with the update tap on the "Mug Updates."
4. Tap on "Update" buttonto start the update.
5. After the update has completed, in the settings the "Mug Updates" will now say "Mug is up to date."

For any purchase made directly through Ember.com, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee (“Return Policy”). If you are unsatisfied from Ember.com, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to request a full refund. You may return any Ember product purchased on Ember.com (“Product”) in accordance with the terms below. If you have a Product over 30 days and are experiencing issues with the Product, we offer a Warranty, as defined below.

You must return the Product to Ember to receive a refund. Returned Product(s) must be in good physical condition (not physically broken or damaged). All accessories originally included with your purchase must be included with your return.

Effects of cancellation:

We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.

View ArticleThe mug was built with the intention of pouring in freshly brewed coffee, hot tea, or hot liquids in general. This is how we always recommend using your Ember mug.
With that said, it is possible to heat from a cold temperature, or room temperature. However, a few reasons we don't recommend this:
It will take a long time! Depending on the temperature it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour plus.
If you are not using the coaster, it will take all of your battery life since the mug is heating to the maximum of its ability.
*Pro tip: The liquid must be above 100F (37.8C) in order for the Ember to recognize that liquid is present. If the liquid is below 100F (37.8C) the Ember may require manual adjusting of the temperature via the Ember App in order to begin regulating your beverage to the desired temperature.
If a user pours in a drink hotter than their desired temperature, Ember's battery won’t be needed until their drink reaches the desired temperature. Once at the preferred temperature, the heaters in the Ember mug will turn on to regulate the temperature. This will allow you to also get the best battery life possible.
