View ArticleNote: This tool is only available to sellers located in the United States and Canada.
As a venue, Etsy can't provide specific tax advice. It's up to each seller to research their local laws about collecting and reporting taxes for their Etsy sales. Tax regulations can vary greatly by location. If you're unsure how to charge tax, we encourage you to consult an accountant or other experts in your area.
Check out this Seller Handbook article for tips to determine if you need to charge tax.
If you do need to charge tax, sellers located in the United States can use the sales tax tool to specify a tax rate for each US state (by state, zip code, or range of zip codes). Canadian sellers can specify a tax rate by province.
Note: Etsy automatically calculates, collects, and remits sales tax for items shipped to states that require marketplaces such as Etsy to collect sales tax.
Adding a tax rate
Your shop needs to be open to the public. After you open you'll need to add the tax rate and then go back and apply it to your listings as described below.
If your shop is already open, go to Shop Manager > Finances > Payment settings. Then, select the Sales Tax tab.
If your shop is located in the United States, select a US state, zip code range, or zip code. If your shop is located in Canada, select a province.
Enter a tax rate in decimal format. For example, enter 8.125 if you want a tax rate of 8 1/8%.
Repeat steps 2-3 for any additional locations and tax rates you wish to collect.
Be sure to click Save.
After adding a tax rate to your shop, new listings you create will have the tax rate applied by default. We recommend checking your older listings, especially listings created before setting up a tax rate, to make sure these items are marked as taxable and that the tax rate is applied.
If you don't want to charge tax on an item, when creating or editing a listing, uncheck the box next to the item's price.
Sales tax is based on shipping location.
For instance, if you're in the state of California and you set a tax rate for California, a New York state buyer wouldn't be charged tax.
The rate will be applied to the most localized area you specify
You can set a rate both for the US state of California and a specific zip code within California, 90210. Buyers with shipping addresses in the 90210 zip code would be charged the rate for 90210; all other Californian shoppers would be charged the California rate.
If a buyer uses a coupon code, the tax will be calculated from the discounted price.
You can set tax rates between 1.0000% and 25.0000%.
While Etsy provides a means to apply taxes to your transactions, we do not warrant that these tax amounts will fully satisfy your sales and use tax reporting obligations. For a final determination on these matters, please seek assistance from your tax advisor.
Note: Depending on where you live, you may need to set a sales tax rate if you offer gift wrapping services. Read more here.

What determines the limit for my maximum daily budget?
There is a limit to how high you can set your daily budget. To determine the limit for your maximum daily budget, we take into account how much you spend on average, as well as your current payment status and payment history. We'll increase your maximum daily budget over time if you're consistently spending your full daily budget.
If you notice a drop in your maximum daily budget, it may be because you have an amount due. Paying your amount due will likely raise your maximum budget back up.

How is the date when I can leave a review determined?
The date your order should arrive is determined by the orders processing time plus shipping time:
Processing time
Sellers can specify a processing time for items they sell. The processing time can vary from 1 day to several weeks. If the seller specified a processing time, you can see that on the item listing page under Shipping and returns. Youll see Ready to ship in XX days. The number of days is the processing time.
One item in an order: We use the longest processing time for an order. If the processing time for your item is a range, like 3-5 weekdays, the longest amount of time is used for case and review eligibility. In this case, we use 5 weekdays.
Several items in an order: We use the longest processing time for any item in your order.
No specified processing time: We use a 5-weekday processing time.
Shipping time
If your order has delivery tracking, your case and review eligibility is dependent on when the carrier marks your order as delivered.
If your order doesnt have delivery tracking, we use estimates for shipping time:
Domestic orders: 4 weekdays
International orders: 10 weekdays

What is a 1099-K form?
Etsy, like other marketplaces, is required by US law to send out a 1099-K tax form.
A 1099-K form from Etsy reports the total gross sales income you received through Etsy Payments during the last calendar year. Gross sales includes all of your sales shipping, refunds, card processing fees, sales tax applied using the sales tax tool, and even canceled orders.
Dont worry, though you only pay taxes on your profit (gross sales minus expenses including Etsy fees and deductions). For more information on this, check out this Seller Handbook post.
For purposes of the 1099-K tax form, the following payments are not considered "Etsy-processed payments":
Payments processed through your own PayPal account
Checks
Money orders
Bank transfers
Other alternative payment methods

Production partners do not include your own shop members or suppliers from whom you source ready-made products to resell.
Handmade items produced with a production partner must abide by our Handmade Policy. We require sellers using production assistance to transparently share this information on the applicable listings.

Youdon'thave the equipment or technical ability to manufacture items you have designed.
Your business is growing, and you need help keeping up with the quantity of orders that you are receiving.

How to add a production partner
There are several ways to add a production partner:
While adding or editing a listing, you can add a production partner in the Production partners section.
In the Listings section of Shop Manager, select at least one listing and choose Editing options, then Change production partners.
You can also create production partner profiles in the production partner manager :
In Shop Manager, click Settings.
Click Production partners.
Select Add a new production partner and fill out a form telling Etsy and the community about your partnership. The information not marked Private will be shared publicly in your shop.
Next to Production partner, enter your partners business name. Etsy requires that you disclose the business name, but you can choose to keep this private in your shop. In that case, you will enter a public title (such as Apparel printer) that describes what kind of business they are.
Enter your partners city, state, province, etc. As you type, select from the list that appears.
In the About production partner field, describe how you work with them. This public information can include why you chose this partner and the types of services that they provide for you.
The answers you select in the About your partnership dropdown menus are only for Etsys internal use. Thesewon'tshow up publicly in your shop or listings.
Preview how this will look on your shops About Section. Your partners business name or descriptive title will appear along with their location and the About your partnership description.

Select the listings you want to edit from the Listings page. Click Editing options, then Production partners. De-select the partner and click Update.

Youdon'tneed to disclose a production partner if you are making your own items or selling qualifying vintage or craft supply goods.
If the listing editor requires you to add a production partner but youdon'thave one, review Etsys Seller Policy to make sure that your items meet our guidelines.
Production partners only apply to items that you are designing, then having made with production assistance. Production partnersdon'tapply to items that you or your shop members physically make or to products that you are not personally designing.

You can report a problem to the seller at any time. The seller should be able to solve most problems with your order.
Whats the estimated delivery date for my order?
To find the estimated delivery date for your order:
On Etsy.com, clicktheYour Account icon.
Click Purchases and reviews.
Locate the order that you want to open a case for.
Next to each order, youll see Leave a review or report an issue on [date]. The date will vary depending on when you placed the order, what the processing time is, and where its shipping from.
After this date, you have 100 days to open a case with Etsy.Once the option to open a case expires, youcan'topen a case.
Before opening a case, contact the seller to work toward resolving the problem. Learn more about Etsy sellers.
How is my estimated delivery date determined?
Your estimated delivery date is determined by the orders processing time plus shipping time. This varies by how many items you ordered and how they were shipped.
What happens if I purchase a shipping upgrade?
Purchasing a shipping upgrade doesnt affect an orders case eligibility date, but it may affect the order's estimated delivery date. If you purchase a shipping upgrade, your original estimated delivery date determines your case eligibility.
Learn about how the estimated delivery date is determined for different processing and shipping times:
Situation
Eligible timing for opening a case
If the order has delivery tracking
You can open a case as soon as your order is marked as delivered by the carrier.
Ordered one item with a specified processing time
You can open a case once the longest time in the processing time for your item, plus shipping time, has passed. If the processing time for your order is a range, like 3-5 business days, the longest amount of time is used for case eligibility. In this case, we use 5 business days.
Ordered items with different processing times
You can open a case once the longest processing time for your items, plus shipping time, has passed. Your ability to open a case for that order will be based on the longest processing time.
Items without specified processing times
You can open a case once the 5-weekday processing time, plus shipping time, has passed.
If the order is shipped domestically
You can open a case once the processing time plus an additional 4-weekday shipping time has passed.
If the order is shipped internationally
You can open a case once the processing time plus an additional 10-weekday shipping time has passed.
For example: An items processing time is 3-5 days, and is shipping within the US. You order the item on September 1. You can open a case on September 9. This includes 5 days for processing time and 4 days for shipping time from the day your ordered this item.
If your order is from a seller who is suspended from selling on Etsy, you may be eligible to open a case before your estimated delivery date.
View ArticleIf your account privileges were permanently suspended due to a policy violation and youd like to continue selling on Etsy, you may file an appeal with Etsy.
To file an appeal:
Click Contact support at the bottom of this page. Youll be prompted to sign in to your Etsy account.
Select My Account, then Reopening a Suspended Account.
Write a detailed message, including:
A description of your business history with Etsy
What factors led to your suspension
Your plan to remediate the issues in your account
Details about how the items you sell fit within Etsys policies
What happens after I file my appeal?
A specialist will review your appeal and your account history, and reply with a final decision over email. Due to the complex nature of these investigations, it can take up to several weeks to receive a decision.
Submitting an appeal doesnt guarantee reinstatement of your account privileges. The appeal only ensures that a qualified specialist will conduct a review of your account history and information to determine the status of your account.
What happens if my appeal is unsuccessful?
If a specialist determines that your account will remain permanently closed, there will be no further consideration of reinstatement. We encourage you to be transparent and forthcoming with any details requested during the appeals process, as it is a sellers final chance to potentially reopen their business on Etsy.
Who can appeal a suspension?
Appeals may only be filed after account privileges are permanently suspended. Filing an appeal is not necessary for issues that are considered in progress, such as non-delivery or not-as-described cases. Appeals filed for accounts with unresolved issues (such as open cases or unpaid balances) will not be reviewed until those matters are resolved.

The fees most sellers will need to know are:
Listing fees
Transaction fees

Listing Fees
When you add a product to your Etsy shop, we call this a listing. Listing fees are the fees you pay to list products for sale on Etsy. Youll be charged a listing fee for each individual listing you post.
The listing fee is a flat rate charge of .20 USD per listing. This fee is charged regardless of whether or not the item listed sells. The fee is automatically added to your payment account when you publish an item.
Other types of listing fees include auto-renew sold, multi-quantity, and private listing fees.
Auto-renew sold fees
Auto-renewed listings automatically repost a listing if its purchased from your shop, saving you the time of manually reposting products. If you setup a listing to auto-renew and its purchased, youll be charged the standard .20 listing fee.
Multi-quantity listing fees
If you have variations of an item for sale in a single listing and a customer purchases more than one variation, youll also be charged the standard .20 listing fee for each additional item purchased from the listing. The additional chargeswon'tpost until a multi-quantity purchase has been made.
For example, if you had more than one item in stock for a particular listing, and a customer purchases two different variations of that item, your payment account would reflect the original .20 listing fee plus an additional .20 for the additional item purchased.
Learn more about multi-quantity listing fees.
Private listing fees
Private listings are useful when you want to post a particular product for a private sale to a particular buyer. Private listing fees cost the .20 standard fee.
Transaction fees
Transaction fees are the fees Etsy collects when a customer makes a purchase from your shop. Unlike listing fees, transaction fees are only collected on listings that sell.
Transaction fee basics:
Etsy collects 5% of the total item cost (and gift wrap, if relevant) in your designated listing currency.
The fee amount posts automatically to your payment account.
Shipping transaction fees:
If you choose to charge buyers a separate shipping fee, Etsy collects 5% of the total shipping charges. Learn more about shipping transaction fees.
Payment processing fees
Payment processing fees are a set rate plus a percent of the total sale price of the item. This rate and percent vary by country. The fees are taken from the items total sale price, including its shipping fees, and any applicable sales tax.
Payment processing fees are charged on each transaction that uses Etsy Payments. These processing fees appear in your payment account and are deducted prior to deposit. They are in addition to Etsy's transaction fees.

To authenticate a payment, you will need to respond to a prompt from your card issuer and provide additional information. Depending on your card issuer, this additional information may include a correct response to a question, a password, or a passcode.
What is my amount due?
Your amount due is how much you owe from last months activities on Etsy.com. If your current balance is negative at the end of the month, youll have an amount due on the first of the following month.
You can see how much is currently due and your most recent payment. If you have an amount due and you make a sale, your amount due will decrease by the net amount of the sale. If your statement is paid and up to date, your amount due will be $0.00 USD.
Can I automatically pay my amount due?

How is Etsy Ads different from Promoted Listings and Google Shopping?
Etsy Ads brings Promoted Listings and Google Shopping together intoone campaign.
Your daily ads budget
Similar to Promoted Listings and Google Shopping, you can set your daily budget. However, where you used to have separate budgetsand campaigns to manage, you now only need to set one budget that will be allocatedbetween advertising your listings on Etsy and Google.
Paying for ads
Paying for ads works the same way: the amount of your budget that you use is deducted from your Payment account the following day. You will still only pay when your ads are working: when shoppers click on your ads.
Bidding
Since your listings are now being advertised across two platforms, you can no longer customize your bids. After we have enough data on Etsy Ads, well start to optimize your bids to maximize visits from your ads.
Unlike Google Shopping and Promoted Listings, youcan'tadjust the bids set for each listing. Instead, you can adjust your daily budget and which listings you advertise.
You're still only charged for clicks on your ads, and the cost for clicks is determined by your bid amount.
How is my daily budget used between Promoted Listings and Google shopping?
Well optimize your budget for where your ads perform the best. This will be a mix of Google Shopping and ads inEtsy search (previously Promoted Listings) that help you get the best results.Etsy Ads optimizes your budget to maximize visits to your shop.
What countries are my ads shown in?
Etsy Ads are shown in search on Etsy and on Google to shoppers in the countries where your ads perform best.
On Etsy, your ads will be eligible to appear in search results to buyers whose default shipping location is set to a country that you ship to and to buyers who adjust their Ships to search filters to a country theyaren'tcurrently located in. For example, if a buyer located in the UK is looking to have something shipped to a friend or relative located in the US, they may choose to run a search for items that ship to the US. In this case, its possible they might see and click one of your ads.
On Google, our smart advertising platform will determine the best region for you, so you can reach shoppers that are interested in products like yours and most likely to make a purchase. On Etsy.com, clicktheYour Account icon.
Click Shop Manager.
Click Orders & Shipping.
Click the (ellipsis) icon next tothe order you want to cancel.
Click Issue a refund.

If the buyer paid through Etsy Payments, then youre done! However, if the buyer paid through another method, like PayPal, youll need to refund them through that payment method.
There is a 48-hour holding period until the cancellation is processed. If you used Etsy Payments, Etsy then automatically credits you for the related listing and transaction fees.
Canceled orders appear in Orders & Shipping under the Complete tab.
Canceling a sold-out item doesn't put the item back in your shop, but you can quickly renew it.
I ordered an item and I want to cancel it
If you bought something on Etsy and you want to cancel the order, contact the seller. Only sellers can cancel transactions.
Sellers may accept returns, but in most cases are not required to do so unless they state they do in their shop policies or are required by local laws. You can find the sellers shop policies on their shop homepage. Read sellers' shop policies carefully and contact sellers before shipping a return.
If a buyer asks to cancel an order, respond to their Message and work with them to find a solution quickly.
If you don't normally accept cancellations, you can consider making an exception as it can help increase customer satisfaction and loyalty. However, canceling an order is up to you. You can specify if you accept cancelations in your shop policies.
If you decide to cancel the order, you can refund, then cancel an order from your Sold Orders page. Click the icon by the order and click Issue a refund. You must issue a full refund to cancel an order.
Then click the icon again and click Cancel a transaction.
View ArticleBuyers have a 100 calendar day window for leaving reviews. This time frame preserves the integrity of the Etsy marketplace and to help ensure that reviews are accurate and timely.
The option to leave a review for an order begins on the order's delivery date or estimated delivery date.
If your order has delivery tracking, the delivery date is when the shipping carrier marks your order as Delivered.
If your order doesn't have delivery tracking, the estimated delivery date can vary depending on an orders processing time and shipping time.
Processing time
The processing time is the length of time it takes the seller to ship an order after it has been placed. If the seller doesnt provide their own processing time, the order will automatically be given a 5-business day processing time.
If the order contains multiple items with different processing times, the maximum processing time is used, whether it was a pre-set processing time or the estimate of 5 days for items without a processing time.
Note: Processing times are determined by the seller. If the seller updates processing times or marks the order as shipped early, Etsy will adjust the estimated arrival date and this will affect when your review window begins.
Shipping time
The shipping time is the number of days it takes the order to ship to the buyer. We use 4 business days for domestic orders within any country and 10 business days for international shipments.
Review restrictions
Keep in mind that reviewscan'tbe left or edited while a case is open for a particular transaction. The 100 calendar days to leave a review can run through the duration of a case.
Also, reviews cannot be left or edited for canceled transactions once the cancellation is processed, which takes 48 hours after the seller cancels.
If a seller responds to a review with 3 stars or less, the option to edit the original review will no longer be available.
Learn more about the case system on Etsy.
Note: Reviews can only be left for items sold through Etsy. If you sell an item in-person through Square, the buyer can't leave a review on Etsy.com. The buyer can leave a review in Square.
