What's the work from home policy like at First Data Corporation?
pre-pandemic work from home was almost nonexistent. maybe a few exceptions for a day here or there for salary employees. post-pandemic almost everyone is work from home. although i hear there will be a big push to get everyone back in the office 3rd quarter this year. Frank Bisignano the CEO has always been against work from home and I'm sure will be pushing everyone back into the office as soon as he can
NONE! CEO does not believe people will actually work if they're at home. Get to the office where we can see you. Some leaders understand the needs to work from home sometimes for family situations or other needs. But it is EXTREMELY rare for anyone to be allowed to have a "regular" WFH allowance. They do check your badge-in rates in the offices.
The CEO does not believe in this style of work-life balance and apparently has the intention of eliminating it. If you have an understanding supervisor who appreciates your schedule and balancing work then you typically can on a ad hoc basis.
Does First Data Corporation drug test or do a background check?
Yes. Payment Card Processor for a LOT of the worlds transactions, trust is pretty important.
Both are required before employment is confirmed.
How much and how often do raises happen at First Data Corporation?
1-2% the past few years, with a cap so that no-one over $150k base salary gets a raise at all in the last 4 years or so. They happen once a year in February - but usually backdated (and caught up) to Jan 1st. Each year your bonus target is also set based on the last years payout. Since bonuses haven't been paying out at 100% and have been paying out at 90-95%, folks are actually making less each year even for meeting the expectations of the company. So, say you made $150,000 in 2015 and had a bonus target of $30,000 and payout of 90% for meeting expectations so you would have gotten $27k payout and $150k base or $177k total. In 2016 your target bonus would have been $27k (matches last year payout) and with a 90% payout you'd have gotten $24.3k or $174.3k total. 2017 new target is $24.3k with 95% payout you got $23k or $173k total. Add inflation and constant health insurance increases and you make a LOT less each year... so even if you make <$150k, no real raises.
Never for the higher levels. Yearly for the lower levels.
What's the company culture like at First Data Corporation?
It is awful. Management feels they are doing you a favor by letting you work there and could care less about employees. High turnover, no loyalty and total disregard for ethical treatment of people.
Not great.
What benefits does First Data Corporation provide?
401K/ no match ESPP Stock options as part of bonus Healthcare Dental Vision Group Life STD/LTD
RSUs worth around the value of a yearly 401k match, that they do NOT provide on your 401k contributions. Health plans are very expensive and at the same time restrictive with hardly any coverage for therapies like speech or psych for your children and long restricted prescription drug list. Expect to pay a lot more for your healthcare than any other company that cares about their employees and their families. If your spouse can get coverage elsewhere then they MUST get it there which really messes up coordination of care if you want to share providers or the like. The benefits are not good. They are poor compared to other $10B+ companies.
What's the internship program like at First Data Corporation?
Pretty good. In general NOT a "go fetch coffee". It is more of an opportunity to work on some far out idea group projects, and also learn a bit of the day to day business as well.

Company started in 1971. While acquisitions have brought some new innovation... 1980s still exists.
Why work for First Data Corporation?
Money.

Not at all. Everyone there serves at the whim of Frank the CEO.

Crappy standard yearly review that does nothing to improve things.

The stock rewards at my level are significant. If the stock performs as predicted, the hard work and tons of effort will pay off. The reward level is highly different for various positions in the company though.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at First Data Corporation?
Understand you are coming into a turnaround situation and not a large established company that it appears to be. Have to be scrappy and ready to do whatever it takes which can mean long hours and fights for what is right against establishment.

Tiny "High Performance Workstation" cubes. 48" wide right up next to your neighbors.

Great commitment to diversity both race/gender and LGBTQ representation. Always needs more work, but... at least committed.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining First Data Corporation?
That the yearly target bonus amount is based on the prior year payout and that the prior years have all paid out at 80-95% of target thus continuously decreasing your target bonus each year.
How's the morale at First Data Corporation?
Absolutely horrible. Entire company is pretty much just waiting for the next shoe to drop from the CEO. Benefits were reduced/cost more again for 2018. "Best" people haven't had raises in years since the best are also the highest compensated and they've been frozen. Your yearly bonus target $ value is based on last year's payout - each year has paid out at 80-95% of target - thus you make less money each year. Melville, NY; Denver, CO; Houston, TX (couple weeks AFTER the hurricane) have all been closed or in process of closing.
