IDX: 25 TOT: 67
How would you compare interviewing at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems to other places you've interviewed?
It depends on the department. The process is LONG (!!!) if you get another offer while in the process of interviewing at GA...take the other offer.
They were more worried about my logic then my technical abilities. A good place for a good start.
How long do the interviews usually take at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
30 min
Hard to remember exactly but I believe my interview lasted 2 hours.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
it wasn't difficult. just very long process
Pretty straightforward, software test and then logic questions from senior developers.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
that it is deeply dysfunctional. In 30 years, GA-ASI is the most toxic work environment that I have ever worked in. Everything is personality politics, rather than verifiable performance.
I wish I'd know about the politics and ego and petty infighting at senior levels of the company -- and that it gets in the way of actually getting anything truly accomplished.
How much diversity is there among employees at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
almost none. women are mostly secretaries.
None. Women are in the absolute minority (unless they're secretaries)...
What unique perks and benefits does General Atomics Aeronautical Systems provide?
the pension plan is nice.
The food in the cafeteria is good...The pension plan doesn't account for much, unless you've been there for 30years ...
What's the pay like for Communications roles at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
average - but not enough to make up for the abuse from my boss
It's ok...industry-ish average. Don't get fooled by the "you get every other Friday off" rhetoric. I haven't ever seen a Friday-off
What's the vibe like in the Communications dept at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems? How many hours are you working?
depends on the department. 40 hours a week most of the time.
Work-life balance is a joke at GA. Average 60 hours a week. Group terribly understaffed and unsupported by company leadership.
How's the leadership on the Communications team at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
The Senior Director is incredibly toxic. It's terrible.
The Senior Director is scattered, unresponsive, whose first response to any problem is blame everyone around else. He spends most of his time playing politics and trying to get promoted. Next level management down are smart, hardworking and team oriented. But, he openly takes all the credit for their accomplishments with little to no actual involvement in the planning or execution.
What's the Communications team like at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
At the team level they are very smart. Very hard working.
The Communications Team are really smart, and incredibly hardworking. In the last year or so they have completely changed the perception of the company, and started several new, innovative campaigns. Great People. (Terrible place to work though, so I don't imagine that any of them will stay there for very much longer).
How common is it to switch departments or teams at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
Not very common.
What is General Atomics Aeronautical Systems' internship program like?
Waste of Time. Interns are recruited without a plan for them to do anything, so most spend their time surfing the internet.
How hard is it to get promoted at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
Impossible - unless you're having a relationship with the Head of Department ...
How are the career growth opportunities on the Marketing team at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
Terrible. Unless you're "friends" with the Senior Director - then you can get hired into a job that you're not qualified for, do almost no work, and still get promoted.
How often do promotions happen at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
It depends on your department. Every department is its own silo and has its own rules and politics.
What perk or benefit should General Atomics Aeronautical Systems have?
Paid maternity and paternity leave.
How are layoffs handled in the Communications department at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
Layoff packages are reasonably generous ...again, how generous depends on the personality politics involved.
How are the career growth opportunities on the Communications team at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
non-existent -- unless you are "personal" friends with your manager. The thing to know about GA-ASI is that EVERYTHING is about personality politics.
What part of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
engineering is growing fast.
What's the interview process like at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
straight forward, but takes a very long time
What are your coworkers at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems like?
my coworkers are great. my boss is abusive
What are you most excited about working at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
the 9/80 work schedule
How's the vacation policy at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
It's OK ... - industry average. You need to know that you will NEVER get back any overtime, so try to avoid working more hours than necessary.
How do you feel about going to work at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems everyday?
I count the minutes until I can leave.
How's the feedback process at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems?
terrible. There is an annual review - but only your direct manager participates and HR has said that managers can say whatever they want (so if your manager says that you spend all day sleeping in your car - there's nothing you can do about it - even if you have written evidence that it's not true).
