How's the feedback proccess at GitHub?
You get feedback formally twice a year. Managers are encouraged to have regular 1:1s with the staff.
It is evolving. We have a formal discussion around feedback in the January/February timeframe with a less formal mid-year check-in during the July/August timeframe. Managers are encouraged to provide regular feedback.
How do you feel about going to work at GitHub everyday?
I feel really good about it.
I feel great. It is one of the best jobs that I have had.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at GitHub?
Not difficult at all.
It is very easy. We have a lot of flexibility in our schedules due to the global, remote nature of our work culture.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at GitHub?
Be involved in the community. Be passionate about what you do and why you do it. Give back.
Do your research. The bulk of the work that we do internally is via written communications via Slack, e-mail, and GitHub itself that strong written communication skills are paramount.
What's the office layout like at GitHub?
It is an open office. Very comfortable and well designed.

How much diversity is there among employees at GitHub?
It is getting better and better and we are striving really hard to not be like our peers. It is one of the more diverse companies that I have worked for.
There is always room for improvement. We have been focusing on diversity so much the last few years. We have made big strides forward in terms of under-represented groups in tech (women, people of color, and LGBTQ) in the last two years. Our diversity report highlights the work.
How's the morale at GitHub?
Overall, I think it is pretty good. We are coming off a challenging year with a lot of change.
Overall, I believe it is good. We have had a bumpy last 15 months with leadership changes. I do believe we are on the right path. We need things to stabilize a bit and it will improve.
What unique perks and benefits does GitHub provide?
We pay 100% of health care, unlimited PTO, a phone upgrade every other year, computer upgrade every other year with the option to purchase your old computer for the tax on blue book value, four months of paid parental leave.

What's the vibe like in the HR dept at GitHub? How many hours are you working?
We refer to the overall organization as People Operations which is made up of HR and Talent Acquisition. It is a busy department. There is a lot of work to be done. The hours worked tend to fluctuate depending on peak times.
I have a lot of freedom and flexibility. I average about 45-50 hours a week depending on the fluctuations. It is fun and collegial environment. We work hard and play hard as well.
What's the HR team like at GitHub?
They are outgoing, friendly, do their best to help you even when they aren't always set up to succeed.
The HR team is helpful and responsive, but they have been spread way too thin. The TA team is one of the best that I have worked on.
How's the leadership on the HR team at GitHub?
There are two directors that are doing their best to keep it running. We are without a VP of HR and we really need one.
It hasn't been easy the last couple of years as we have had multiple changes in leadership. I am positive about our new VP of HR and the Talent Acquisition leader is amazing.
What's the pay like for HR roles at GitHub?
I have no complaints about my salary. I feel I am paid well.
I have been treated very fairly by GitHub and am quite pleased with my compensation.
What is the best part about your compensation package at GitHub?
It's very competitive to the market

What's the pay like for Business Development roles at GitHub?
We only have one BD employee now, so there isn't a good sample size. My salary is mostly fair for the work I do in SF, but probably on the lower end.
What's the vibe like in the Business Development dept at GitHub? How many hours are you working?
It's busy, but fun. Lots of different things to work on, but we can be a "catch-all" at times which can become frustrating. Currently working about 50 hours a week.
What's the Business Development team like at GitHub?
Small. Currently, only one person working on BD but the team will surely grow over over the next 12 months.
How's the leadership on the Business Development team at GitHub?

What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining GitHub?
Honestly, there isn't anything. I was in the position of knowing people that worked here prior to my joining and I had been to the offices a couple of times. I had a pretty good grasp of the culture and the work ahead. I am very happy that I joined GitHub when I did. It has been a fantastic experience for me.
What are some of the best things about your team at GitHub?
My immediate coworkers care deeply about our product and other Hubbers.

Innovative, big hearts and committed to our open source community.
