Executive Bio

Ms. Eve Burton has been a Senior Vice President and General Counsel at The Hearst Corporation since 2002. Ms. Burton is also an Adjunct Faculty Member of constitutional law and journalism at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She served as Vice President at The Hearst Corporation since November 2002. Ms. Burton served as Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel at Cable News Network (CNN) from 2000 to 2001, during which time she oversaw all legal matters relating to news and other programming on CNN networks and websites. Most notably, she led the network's successful effort to obtain audio access to the U.S. Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore. From 1998 to 2000, Ms. Burton was vice president and deputy legal counsel at the New York Daily News. She joined the Daily News in 1995 as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. From 1992 to 1995, she was a Senior Litigation Associate at the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, New York. Prior to that, she was a Law Clerk for the Hon. Leonard B. Sand in the United States District Court, New York. She serves as a Director of LiveSafe, Inc. She has been an Independent Director of Intuit Inc. since January 2016. She has been a Director of The Hearst Corporation since January 2013. Ms. Burton serves as a Member of Advisory Board of Mochila, Inc. She served as a Director of AOL Inc. since September 16, 2013. She was a Fulbright Research Scholar at Thammast at University in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2010, the Hearst Office of General Counsel was honored by MFY Legal Services for its innovation and contribution to pro bono legal work nationwide. In 2005, Ms. Burton won the Fulbright Award for Human Rights Work and in 2004, she was named an Outstanding Woman of the Bar by the New York County Lawyers Association. She has received First Amendment Awards from the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and the New York Press Club. She is a member of the advisory board of the David and Helen Gurley Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Stanford and Columbia Universities. Ms. Burton holds a JD from Columbia University School of Law.
