Poor management that verbally explodes and behavior indicates that they do not value knowledge and contributions.

Every place has it's issues and people that control things but this is still the Best position I have ever had for what i do and how much I am compensated.

  • Generally friendly and supportive; however, I have seen competition between divisions so be careful to whom you report. Some of the management want to only hear their views.

  • I wore a suit to my interview at HollyFrontier. Most positions at HollyFrontier dress casually. Different managers have different ideas about the effort someone expresses during an interview so I would suggest dressing well. I interviewed with Texas Instruments during my college years for a coop position. The department head with a chemical doctorate appeared disheavaled. I attended the interview in a suit and was hired. After becoming a friend of the department head who was only known as Barney and never addressed as doctor among the engineers, confided that he never considered anyone who interviewed who did not wear a suit. He said he knew how financially strapped a graduate student could be and it was not important the quality of fit of the suit, just the effort to present the best appearance possible.

  • Benefits are in line with most petroleum, refiners, and pipeline companies which is good. Health insurance cost has been increasing but that is also in line. I generally received a bonus between $8k and $15k per year.

  • Generally pretty good working environment which might require very long hours during certain projects. Some of the upper managers seem to prefer "yes sir you are correct" rather than an honest answer.
