They used to be for remote worker. However over the past year plus that is no longer the case . IBM has been giving people a choice either move closer to a major IBM office or leave. Not the best choice and especially not a fair employment practice. Gone are the glory days of IBM now its a churn and burn machine dedicated only to executive/upper management. They are letting good hard workers go and either offshoring or bringing in cheap labor. Look elsewhere IBM is no longer a champion of remote workers.
IBM is global company, with positions in virtually every country. Remote work options depend on the job role. Marketing used to allow for remote work - which really allowed projects to be shared and managed globally with great efficiency. Also very good for work/life balance. (ie: work *full time* from 2nd home). Currently co-location to centralized US hubs has forced an estimated 70% of marketing professionals to electively or forcibly leave the company.
Not anymore. IBM has mandated that every marketing person in North America report to one of six "strategic hubs": San Francisco, Austin, Raleigh, Cambridge, New York, Atlanta. This was NOT based on where the former remote workers lived .. ie. send them to the nearest hub. Instead, job roles were designated to particular cities. Working from home, even partially, is no longer allowed.
Yes, opportunities to work from home or remotely still exist, however they are far less common than in the past. Several efforts were taken to eliminate work from home and force normal office workplace if within a certain distance from an office, or even to continue employment, forcing relocation for some.
Not really. You'll always get hired to work with a certain team at a certain site. After a while in that position, you can sometimes change jobs to work with groups mostly based at other sites, in which case you would have more flexibility to work from home.
None that have any assurance of staying that way. As a former employee that was remote for 17 years, then forced to go back to an office or quit - I quit. The company no longer values their employees, only their shareholders. Look elsewhere.
They used to, but now they are demanding that everyone work from one of their offices. If you don't have an office close enough to drive to, you'll be out of a job
Yes and No depending on your role, there has been a move recently to get people back into the office after many years of having large "remote" teams
There are work from home/remote options in some organizations within the company. Depends on the job/responsibility. Client facing are completely remote, others aren't.
They used to but are doing away with remote workers. Most are being off shored to India.
yeah. When they lay you off they make a policy to send everyone back to the office.
Yes. It is entirely possible for several positions that you work from home.
Not anymore, everyone has to go into the office these days.
Yes but it depends on role and practice area / project.
Yes but there are roles that require being in the office
Yes. This is the best part in my opinion.
Very rarely, most are onsite positions
All sales roles are remote
They are cutting back drastically
