Issuu works on latest two versions of all major browsers like:
Safari

Opera

NOTE: Issuu also supports Internet Explorer 11 but some features might not work perfectly on it.
View ArticleThis article provides solution to common problems with conversion, links, fonts, text and layout when uploading your content to Issuu platform.
NOTE: You also need to follow article: Preparing Documents for Upload to learn more about basic document requirements.
Problems with Conversion
If conversion fails, one or more of your pages might be too complex (in other words, they contain too many vector objects). To troubleshoot, follow these steps:
Identify these complex pages by observing which ones load slowly in a PDF reader
Remove these pages and upload a test to see if conversion succeeds
Simplify the design of the complex pages or flatten them to bitmap graphics
NOTE: It is hard to see on the page if there are detailed vector graphics. It is normally the design program does when you add too many things on the page. You can try to generate your PDF as optimized for web or linear PDF. This can be achieved via the print dialog.
NOTE: If you are using InDesign to create your content, download this Issuu Export Preset to ensure during the export process, your PDF is Issuu-ready.
Problems with Links
To ensure your links are working properly:
Add long links before upload
Links should have prefix with either www. or http(s)://
Make sure links in the text are not separated by line breaks or placed directly next to non-link characters (add a blank space on each side of the link/email-address)
If your links are displayed in the wrong place, export your document to view on the screen (not for print)
If you are turning full pages into links e.g. for full-page ads, make sure the link area is smaller than the actual page. The best approach is to leave space for a margin around your link area
Problems with Fonts
Make sure your fonts are embedded in the document you upload by exporting with fonts.
NOTE: Your document might look correct in a desktop PDF reader because the reader will automatically use the correct fonts available on the local computer. However, Issuu may need to substitute the missing fonts with different ones if you do not export the correct fonts. We will not be able to do font rendering or text extraction.
NOTE: Never use ligatures in your document. These would have rendering problems on Issuu.
Problems with Text
If your page does not have crisp text, please ensure that:
You do not have any images/graphics overlapping in the text. This includes semi- or full-transparent images/graphics. For example, putting text under the transparent part of an image of a circle, might cause trouble with how the text looks. To fix this, please re-arrange the layers in your document so the text is on top (even when the text is not visibly overlapped by anything).
You do not export your text as outlines
If you are uploading a PDF document, text is selectable when you open the document in Adobe Reader. If the text is not selectable, it is an indication that it will not be rendered crisp on Issuu
The text is inserted as text, and not as an image (for example as an advertisement). If it is inserted as an image, the text will not always be as crisp when zoomed in as in the original document
You only include visible layers in the output PDF (see https://help.issuu.com/hc/en-us/articles/204815468-Exporting-from-InDesign-to-issuu-Ready-PDFs )
If you are still experiencing issues, turn secondary content (like advertisement) into images. If the problem we encountered while processing a page was in this secondary content, turning it into an image will allow the rest of the content to be rendered with crisp text.
Problem with Layout
If you have problems with text, images or another part of your layout, please see below steps:
Try a different PDF version (e.g. v 1.3) or a different PDF printer
Replace your vector graphics with bitmaps
If your text is bleeding through, you are using an unsupported layout feature (e.g. soft masks). Please use a different layout feature or replace that page/item with bitmap graphics
If images are not showing, they are probably inserted in the content using unsupported features (e.g. frames/forms), so try to simplify or flatten your layout
If Nothing Works
As a final attempt, try re-saving your PDF in Preview for Mac (or similar software on a PC), as it can sometimes remove unknown errors. If you want to upload a Word document or Powerpoint presentation, try exporting to PDF before uploading.
If you are still having issues, click Submit a Request to contact Issuu Customer Support.

View ArticleMany people discover Issuu content by searching on Google, Bing or Yahoo search engines. Search engine optimization (SEO) is a way of increasing the visibility of your content in search results. This article discusses what Issuu does to improve the SEO of your content and what actions you can take as a Publisher to optimize your content for your searches.
NOTE: Search Engine Optimization value is provided only on our paid plans Starter, Premium and Optimum. Users on Basic/Freeplan will not be on the top of search results on Issuu.
Text Extraction
When your content is uploaded to Issuu, we extract and expose all of the text within the content so that search engines can better understand whats inside. This means that the link to your content will be displayed more often in relevant search results.
Relevancy
Suggested content which is below or to the side of your content helps readers to get more exposure from search engines. It also signals search engines that both your content and its related content are relevant to each other, improving the chances of those documents ranking in search results.
Trust
With more than 30 million uploads, 100 million monthly uniques and an enormous network of content shared and embedded across the internet, Issuu is the worlds largest digital publishing and discovery platform. All content uploaded to Issuu get an SEO boost just by being on the platform something you can not get on any other digital publishing site.
How You Can Improve SEO
Optimized Text
Before you publish, make sure that the text inside your content is selected as a vector, not an image. We do not perform optical character recognition (OCR) on images, so this is crucial.
Title and Description
To make sure your Issuu profile display name, description and website URL are up-to-date, add detailed and specific titles and descriptions to your content. This helps tremendously with SEO. For example:
Niseyknits Fall 2016 Knitwear Lookbook is a better title than Lookbook 16
New for 2016!Handmade scarves, hats, mittens and baby blankets by popular Etsy seller Niseyknits is a good description because it includes specific details about whats inside the content.
Relevant Links and Content
Search engines look for quality content that people find valuable. They are smart enough to detect signals that show when your content is crammed with spammy, duplicate, keyword-stuffed text and links.
In your content, only add links that would be relevant to the content and your readers. Examples include linking to your own site and social accounts, to an online shop or to an advertiser.
Sharing and Embedding
Be sure to link and embed your content on your site, blog and social channels. Use your website, social channels and marketing emails to encourage readers to share your latest work. This adds quality and relevancy to your content.
Troubleshooting SEO Issues
Not in Search Results
If you have just uploaded your content, it can take some time before search engines index it. Additionally, while we make all public content available to crawl, search engines may choose not to index content if it does not seem relevant. To help search engines get to your content faster, follow the tips listed above, and start sharing your content right away.
Low Search Ranking
SEO is competitive. It is probably not realistic for your content to rank on the first page for popular terms like Beyoncor generic terms likeDogs. To help search engines evaluate the relevancy of your Issuu content, follow the tips listed above remember: the more specific your content and description, the better is the search result!.
Outranked by issuu.com
Issuu.com has excellent search equity, which means your content on Issuu is listed above your own website in search results. This might seem undesirable, but it is actually good after all, the important thing is getting your content in front of your audience. If you put relevant links in your content, share your work by embedding in your website and clearly showcase your profile name and URL on Issuu, it will be easy for readers to follow you outside Issuu.
Unlisted Content Showing Up
Unlisted documents are not shared with Google and other search engines. If you discover an unlisted/private Issuu document in search results, it is because someone has shared the link on another site or social channel. You can delete your content and re-upload with a different file name to remove it from search results, as detailed here.
Embedded Content Not Helping Rankings
Search engines will see the content which is inside an embedded document on issuu.com, not on your site or blog. This is because the actual content (text, articles, images) is not included in the embed code it is only hosted on Issuu.
You can optimize the rest of your website content and metadata to signal search engines that the page is relevant to what is inside your content.
View ArticleYou can tailor your readers' experience by applying our Issuu embed feature to your website. View ArticleOver the years, there have been several ways to specify the URL of a publication on Issuu. Some of these URL parameters were only supported by the Issuu reader before we switched to a purely HTML5-based version. This article outlines which URL parameters are no longer supported and which are supported as a legacy migration path.
Legacy URL Parameters Supported
mode
This parameter was used to control how the Issuu reader was presented. With thenew HTML5 reader, all of these modes will now display the Shareable Full-ScreenReader.
Embed
window
a_p
viewMode
To present the reader using spreads, doublePage or magazine is used (this is the default).
To present the reader showing single pages at that time, use singlePage or presentation.
To set the Shareable Full-Screen Readers background color using a hex triplet, backgroundColor is used.
To set a positive integer starting page, use pageNumber.
NOTE: You can also specify the page number at the end of the URL before any parameters. For example, add "/3" to start from page 3.
A sample URL with these options can be seen here.
Legacy URL Parameters No Longer Supported
The parameters below were specific to Issuus Adobe Flash reader or were used very rarely, and therefore are no longer supported.
mode
Any mode-parameters which are not part of the supported list above will no longerhave an effect.
layout
Used to link to an Adobe Flash SWF file with custom skinning (a Flash-only feature).
showFlipBtn
Used to control display of page flip arrows.
autoFlip
Used to enable auto-page-flip.
autoFlipTime
Used to control auto-page-flip intervals.
Accessing the Legacy URL Parameters
You must be on a paid Issuu plan to use the legacy URL parameters. This is because they are only functional with the Shareable Full-Screen Reader, which is a paid feature. If you are not a paying publisher, the URL will go to the default reading experience on issuu.com regardless of any URL parameters.

View ArticleHow you price your content to sell on Issuu is totally up to you. You know your audience best, so you can survey or test different prices over time to find out what they are willing to pay and how valuable they find your content.
Best Practices to Keep in Mind
Single issues of digital magazines are typically priced in the $3-6 USD range
If you are also selling a print version, the digital version is generally priced at 20-60% of the print price
Digital magazine subscriptions are typically priced at 20-40% discount on the price of buying each issue individually and the longer the subscription term, the bigger is the discount
A price that feels too high may keep readers from purchasing
A price that feels too low may make readers think the content is low quality
Also keep in mind the Issuu commission and Stripe fee
Here is a helpful blog post about pricing from Creative Market.

We have instituted a more stringent flagging system in order to more robustly prevent explicit publications from showing up in the general stream.
This means that all newly uploaded or re-uploaded publications have to be reviewed by our moderators, before showing up on profiles and in streams. The process will take 5 minutes to few hours. Unfortunately, the Publication review time is not in our control.
Once your publications are reviewed, the Pending Safe Mode Review tag will get removed and your publication will show up in profiles and streams.
