View ArticleIs your Smart Ear not properly sending readings to your iPhone? Dont worry!
The Kinsa Smart Ear can get confused if attempts are made to pair it with more than one phone, or if theres a Bluetooth glitch on the phone itself. These steps will get your Smart Ear back on track.
IMPORTANT
If you're upgrading from the old Kinsa Smart Stick app to the new Kinsa app, or setting up your Smart Ear with a new iPhone but you still have your old iPhone, follow this guide first.

2. Make sure the Kinsa app has been given access to your iPhone's Bluetooth settings:
Open your iPhone's Settings app
Wait a few seconds, then scroll down to findKinsa and tap it
On the next screen, make sure Bluetooth is switchedon.
3. Restart your iPhone (This is different from turning your iPhone's display off and on. Learn more )

At the same time, hold down the large round button and the smaller side button until you hear two beeps several seconds apart. Youll see a flashing Bluetooth symbol on the Smart Ears display when the reset is complete.
8. Turn off Airplane Mode. Learn more
9. Remove your Smart Ear from your iPhone.
Open your iPhone'sSettings app, then select Bluetooth.
Turn the Bluetooth switch on (if itisn'talready).
On this same screen under My Devices, look for a name starting with KS_ or AViTA and tap the button next to it.
Tap Forget This Device, then tap Forget Device.
10. Connect your Smart Ear with your iPhone.
Open the Kinsa app
Tap the Settings gear button in the top right corner
Under Thermometers, tap Add New Thermometer
Follow the on-screen instructions. For best results, choose these options:
Tap Enable Location Services
Then tap Allow to give Kinsa access to location information so the Kinsa app can detect when the thermometer is nearby.
Note: We take your privacy very, very seriously. You do not have to share your location information with Kinsa if youdon'twant to, however, the connection between your QuickCare and iPhone may not work as well and you will not be contributing anonymously to our illness signal. Learn more.
Select Turn on Notifications
Choose Allow so the Kinsa app can send you notifications when it receives temperature readings from your Kinsa thermometer
If your Smart Ear has turned off, press the round button to turn it back on
On the Kinsa Thermometer Found alert, tap Connect
On the Bluetooth Pairing Request alert, tap Pair
Youre all set! Your Smart Ear should now send readings to your iPhone without any issues.

View ArticleWe developed and tested our thermometers for maximum accuracy around typical human body temperatures ranges:
Between 95 F and 107.6 F
Between 35 C and 42 C
If you suspect inaccurate readings from your Smart Ear, follow these steps:
Ensure the ear is clear of earwax and debris, but don't use a cotton swab because this can damage the ear. For tips on how to best clean the ear safely, please follow this guide from the Mayo Clinic.
This step is very important - do not skip. Make sure the tip of the Smart Ear thermometer is clean. Using a cotton swab with alcohol or an alcohol wipe, gently clean the small round window at the tip of the sensor. If there is any debris left on this sensor window at all, it will throw off readings. (see photo below)
Before taking a reading, choose one ear to use for readings and stick to it. It may sound strange, but actually there is a small temperature difference between both sides of the head and so choosing one ear to use with your Kinsa will produce more precise readings.
The Kinsa Smart Ear uses an infrared ray to measure the temperature inside the ear, and so earwax or a small, curved ear canal can interfere with the accuracy of a temperature reading. To ensure the most accurate reading possible, please use the proper technique:
For infants under the age of 1, gently tug the ear straight back to straighten the ear canal before taking a reading.
For children over the age of 1 and adults, gently tug the ear straight up and back before taking a reading.
If you're still seeing inaccurate readings, try removing the batteries for one minute and then reinserting them. This will allow the Smart Ears internal components to reset which can fix accuracy issues.
If all else fails, perform a factory reset on your Smart Ear by holding down the large power button and the small button on the left side for about ten seconds. You should hear two beeps several seconds apart. When you see the flashing Bluetooth symbol on the LCD display, your Smart Ear has been successfully reset. Then wait a few seconds more to let it power all the way off before you attempt to turn it on again and take a new reading. (Note: Since the Smart Ear has now been factory reset, you will need to pair it with your phone again.).
The acceptable range of temperatures with the Kinsa Smart Ear is 0.8 F. If you're still seeing a bigger range than this with your readings, please tell our Customer Happiness Team right away at kinsa.help/ContactUs and we'll take care of you!

View ArticleVoiceover for iOS and TalkBack for Android are accessible screen reading features for smartphones. These features read the contents of the phone screen out loud, including the buttons and labels in the Kinsa app. However, these features only work through the phones loudspeaker or, when the phone detects that headphones are plugged in, through verbal cues played through the headphones.
This causes a problem because the Kinsa Smart Stick uses the headphone jack, but is obviously not a pair of headphones. Therefore Kinsa Smart Stick users are not able to use Voiceover or Talkback when taking temperatures, however these features do work with our Kinsa QuickCare and Smart Ear thermometers.
We hope to resolve this issue with Kinsa Smart Stick thermometers as we continue to work on supporting Voiceover and TalkBack, for it is very important to our customers. To stay informed on this update, please subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of www.kinsahealth.com

If you have the original phone, open Kinsa, go to More, select the thermometer to remove and choose Forget Thermometer.
On the new mobile phone, follow the steps in this article to install the app and set the thermometer up.
If you want to use QuickCare on two or more phones simultaneously, note that the thermometer will connect with whichever phone is in closest proximity. In order to ensure it connects to your phone, make sure any other phone is farther away or has its bluetooth turned off.

View ArticleThe iPhone 7 and later models can all be used with the Kinsa Smart Stick, but it'svery important to follow the guide below to set it up successfully.
In this guide, you'll see that you need a "Lightning adapter". This is also known as Apple'sLightning-to-Headphone adapterwhich is available to buy separately here:
Lightning-to-Headphone adapter, $9 from Apple.com
Good news: This adapter came included for free with older iPhone 7, 8 and X models.
Bad news: This adapter is notincluded for free with new iPhones anymore.(Thanks Apple)
If you've upgraded to a new iPhone and don't have this adapter, you'll either need to buy this adapter yourself, or upgrade to our new wireless Kinsa QuickCare thermometer which doesn't need any adapters or wires at all.
Apple's Lightning Adapter is the only adapter that we recommend using. In our tests, we found that adapters and splitters from other manufacturers prevented the Kinsa Smart Stick from working properly.
Here's a video guide, with all the individual steps listed underneath.
How To Setup Your Smart Stick with your iPhone
Turn off the iPhone, and turn it back on again.
Launch the Kinsa app
Navigate to the More menu and select Add a New Thermometer
Select Smart Stick > Set Up Now
Follow these stepsprecisely:
Connect the thermometer to the black setup adapter
Connect the black setup adapter to the Lightning adapter
Connect the Lightning adapter(with the black setup adaptor and thermometer connected)to the iPhone
Click the green Set up Thermometer button to proceed
Once the video instructions for connecting the thermometer complete hit Next
Once the 2nd part of video instructions complete, unplug all the pieces from the phone
Separate the black setup adapter from other pieces (be sure to save it!)
Plug the thermometer into the white Lightning adapter
Plug both pieces back into the phone and press Next to complete the setup process
Setup is now complete and you can take your first temperature reading!
If youd like to use the extension cord, connect the white extension cord to the white lightning adapter, and connect the thermometer to the other end of the extension cord.Make sure to connect all three pieces together BEFORE connecting them to your iPhone.
If you have any issues with the process, reach out to our Customer Happiness team right away for at KinsaHealth.com/ContactUs.
View ArticleThe Kinsa QuickCare can display temperatures in both Fahrenheit (F) for Americans and Celsius (C) for the rest of the world.
But if your QuickCare is on the wrong scale, follow these steps to fix it in a flash:
Before you begin, make sure your QuickCare has connected with your Kinsa app at least once. If you don't want to use the Kinsa app, you'll first need to remove the APP message on your QuickCare by quickly double pressing the button, as shown in this video. kinsa.help/skipAPP
If your QuickCare is powered off, push its button to turn it back on.
Wait for three flashing lines to appear on the display.
Quickly double push the QuickCare's button. Use the same speed as double clicking a mouse.
On the QuickCare's display, you'll see theCchange to aFor vice-versa.
Note: If you change the temperature scale in your Kinsa app, it won't change the temperature scale on your QuickCare. It will only affect the temperature readings already in your Kinsa app.
View ArticleIf your little one is under 6 months old, you'vegot to be checking their temperature rectally. Yes, we know - youdon'tlike it, and they certainlydon'tlike it. However, it is the gold standard during this age range, giving you the most accurate temperature reading. (Rectal readings are actually recommended up until 4 years of age.)
Tympanic thermometers (ones that go in the ear canal) are unreliable when used on children under 6 months of age. Axillary thermometers (ones that go under the armpit) are the least accurate way to measure body temperature, and generally, are not even suggested anymore.
If the number on your Kinsa thermometer has you wondering if you should head to the ER or stay snuggled up in bed, don'tyou want to be sure? Of course you do! However, you might have no idea how to take a rectal temperature, or youre worried about hurting them. Let us help!
Step 1 Clean the end of the thermometer using soap and water, or rubbing alcohol. Rinse the tip, not the entire thermometer, with cool water (not hot water). Wait a minute for it to reach room temperature again before using on your babe.
Step 2 Position your baby in a way they can remain secure and still throughout the temperature reading. For the younger ones, diaper changing position is the easiest. Place them on their back and lift their legs up to their chest.
For older toddlers, laying them on their stomach across your lap might be the easiest way to keep them from squirming.
Step 3 Apply a lubricant (such as petroleum jelly) to the end of the thermometer.
Step 4 Insert the thermometer into the rectum about to 1 inch. Once you can no longer see the silver tip, thats inch. Dont ever try to push past any resistance. Keep your babys legs and tushy secure, and wait for the beep. It should take less than 8 seconds!
Step 5 Remove the thermometer and clean it thoroughly, the same way you started.
Step 6 Label the thermometer for Rectal Use Only with a permanent marker.
Hopefully, by the age of 4 to 5 years old, your kiddo can hold a thermometer under their tongue for oral readings. Rectal readings should be a distant memory for them nowand for you, Mom and Dadthank the heavens!
View ArticleRecent Android updates (Android 7 and later) have fundamentally changed how the hardware in some phones detect and handle signals coming through the headphone jack. In short, they block the signals from the Smart Stick from reaching the Kinsa app. Our engineering team has spent a long time trying to address this problem, but because this change came from the underlying Android system, we cannot fix it through the Kinsa app. This is why, many years after we first introduced the Smart Stick, we have now phased it out and we're replacing it with our brand new wireless smart thermometer, the Kinsa QuickCare
The Smart Stick is still compatible with many phones and it will take some for all the Smart Stick thermometers to be sold off completely. In the coming months, the new QuickCare will replace the Smart Stick in stores and online.
If you recently bought your Smart Stick and it's incompatible with your phone, we recommend returning it for a refund and getting the QuickCare instead. The brand new Kinsa QuickCare is compatiblewith all Android phones that can run the Kinsa app and will be for the foreseeable future. This is because the QuickCare works on its own and uses wireless Bluetooth technology which means it doesn't rely on a wired connection to any particular phone like the Smart Stick did.
If the Smart Stick is not compatible with your phone and you're interested in upgrading to the new wireless Kinsa QuickCare, please contact our Customer Happiness Team so we can offer the best solution for you: kinsa.help/ContactUs

View ArticleThe error 108 message generally has a quick and easy fix, so don't worry! All you need to do is center the audio balance in your Settings menu to fix it. To do so, please see below, and note that most Androids will look something like this, but with slightly different names and locations.
Open your Android Settings.
Navigate to Accessibility > Hearing.
If turned on, switch Turn off all sounds to off.
If turned on, switch Mono audio to off.
Access the Sound Balance section (you might need to tap Left and right sound balance). Nexus 6 users: Because you DO NOT have a sound balance section, if you have installed an app that allowed you to change the audio balance, open that app to center the audio.
Move the audio balance slider to the far left and release it.
Move the slider back to center. It should snap into place once you're close enough. Make sure the slider is completely centered. If it is even slightly off like the first image below youll need to try again. The second image is centered.
Tap SET (if displayed).
NOTE:In order for Kinsa to work every time you take a temperature reading:

View ArticleThe Kinsa QuickCare wireless stick thermometer uses one CR 2032 battery.
We designed the Kinsa QuickCare to use the CR 2032 battery specifically becausethey'resmall, reliable, cheap, and easy to find. If you have a choice of brands, we recommend Energizer or Panasonic, whichever you find cheaper.
CR 2032 batteries are typically available at pharmacies, grocery stores, and online at Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Theyre usually sold in packs of 5 for around $5.
To replace your QuickCares battery:
With the edge of a coin, turn the back of your QuickCare counterclockwise until it pops off.
Tip your QuickCare to the side and the old battery should fall out.
Insert the new battery, ensuring the larger, more reflective side with text is facing up.
Replace the backing, and again use the edge of a coin to turn clockwise and secure the back of your QuickCare.
View ArticleThe Android operating system requires two things to connect with any Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device, including the Kinsa QuickCare wireless smart thermometer:
Bluetooth must be turned on
Location permissions must be granted
These two requirements come from the Android operating system, not from Kinsa.
For more detail, heres the relevant section of the official Android documentation for app developers:
"In order to use Bluetooth features in your application, you must declare two permissions. The first of these isBLUETOOTH. You need this permission to perform any Bluetooth communication, such as requesting a connection, accepting a connection, and transferring data.
The other permission that you must declare isACCESS_FINE_LOCATION. Your app needs this permission because a Bluetooth scan can be used to gather information about the location of the user. This information may come from the user's own devices, as well as Bluetooth beacons in use at locations such as shops and transit facilities."
If either Bluetooth or Location permissions are denied, your Android phone won't connect with your Kinsa QuickCare.
If location permissions were already denied and you want to go back and grant those permissions to enable your phone to connect with your Kinsa QuickCare, follow the steps below.
Note: Each Android phone manufacturer uses a slightly different menu. We've tried our best to provide instructions that will work with as many phones as possible, but you may need to find instructions for your particular phone.
Open your phone's Settings app.
Find and select Apps or Applications.
If you don't see a list of all your apps, select your closest match to App Info, Application Manager or Manage Applications.
Find and select Kinsa.
Tap on Permissions.
Turn on the switch next to Location.
Open the Kinsa app and setup your QuickCare.
View ArticleSadly, no. Connecting your Kinsa Smart Ear with more than one phone at a time is not supported.

Only schools which are accepted into this year's FLUency program are listed in the app.
If you can't find your school, are youcertainyour school was accepted? If so, you should have a flyer or message from your school's nurse about the program.
If you did hear about the FLUency program from your school's nurse, double check the exact spelling of the school. Since there are literally thousands of schools out there, our app looks for an exact match so the spelling is very important. For example, the Sand Hill school won't be found if you're searching with Sandhill.
If that doesn't work, try searching the unique part of your school's name which doesn't change. For example, instead of searchingSt John, St. Johnor Saint John- try searching with justJohn.
And if you still can't find your school group but you're certain your school is in the program, contact the Kinsa Customer Happiness team to ask for help, making sure to provide these details in your message:

Recalibrate Smart Stick
Reboot smartphone
By checking each of these, we can almost guarantee that your problem will get solved - and stay solved! So lets begin.

Connection Problems
Sometimes connection problems happen between the app and the thermometer. To be sure therearen'tany, the following tips should be applied.
On your iPhone, double-tap the home button.
Swipe the Kinsa app up to close it.
Next be sure the headphone jack is clear of lint. You can clean the headphone jack by gently using a toothpick to clear it out.
Finally make sure you listen for a click when you use any of these combinations of plugging your:
Kinsa into the black adapter (setup only)
Black adapter into the phone (or Lightning adapter iP: iPhone 7) ((setup only))
Kinsa into the phone
Kinsa into the extension cord
Extension cord into the phone (or Lightning adapter: iPhone 7)
Audio Settings
Now that everything is clean and connected, lets check some of your smartphone's audio settings as these can cause setup and temperature reading issues as well.
NOTE: We will be calibrating / setting up the thermometer after checking these settings. If setup was completed once before, don'tworry. Calibrating the thermometer a second time can only help with temperature reading accuracy.
Open your iOS Settings.
Scroll down and tap on Music.
If EQ is set to Late Night, tap on it and switch it to anything else. You can change this back after the Kinsa setup.
Go back to Music. If Volume Limit shows that it is On, tap on it and drag the slider as far to the right as it will go. This will turn it to Off. You can change this back after the Kinsa setup.

Update the Kinsa App
Finally lets update the app in case it is an older version (skip these steps if you just installed the app).
On your phone, go the App Store.
Tap on Updates (lower right).
Scroll down to Kinsa (if shown) and accept the update if available.
Recalibrate your Kinsa Smart Stick thermometer
Open the Kinsa app, navigate to More > Add a New Thermometer. Do not touch the volume during setup.
If the app doesnt appear to sense the adapter/thermometer, make sure the flat side of the thermometer is even with the surface it is resting on. You can even give the adapter and thermometer a quarter or half turn each. Turning the audio plug(s) may help the phone detect the connection and initiate setup.
If still an issue, restart your phone and try setup once more (leaving volume untouched).
After set up completes, try a reading but:
Avoid eating or drinking any liquids, exercising, taking showers or baths, or smoking for 15 minutes prior to use, as these activities can cause mild elevations in temperature.
Leave the thermometer still while you take a temperature.
Dont change the phone volume.
Wait about 30 seconds between readings. Kinsa takes its best readings from room temperature, so back to back readings can confuse it.
Reboot Smartphone
Lastly, we recommend rebooting or restarting your smartphone to clear out any junk settings or glitches which may be causing trouble.
This should resolve your setup or reading issue. If not, please contact us by and well be happy to help!
View ArticleSetup of your Kinsa Smart Thermometer is essential for making sure your smartphone can communicate reliably while taking a temperature reading. This process should be repeated on each device you intend to use your thermometer with.

The Kinsa QuickCare smart thermometer was designed and built from the ground up to be used with the free Kinsa app. The Kinsa app powers up an otherwise regular old "dumb" thermometer with smart features including temperature tracking, fever and treatment guidance, medication reminders - all designed to work together to help you and your family get better, faster.
To get the free Kinsa app, go to getKinsa.app
You already paid good money for your Kinsa smart thermometer so the app is completely free. There are no ads, in-app purchases, or paid features.
When powered on for the first time, the QuickCare will show APP on the display, prompting you to set it up with the Kinsa app before it will take a temperature. Completing this one-time, one-minute setup permanently removes this APP message so you can take readings whenever you need to.
But in a pinch, you can use the QuickCare to take readings on its own - no app necessary.
To take readings immediately without the Kinsa app, follow these steps:
If your QuickCare is off, push the button to turn it on.
Wait for APP to appear on the display
Quickly double press the button. For a demonstration, watch this video. kinsa.help/skipAPP
When the display changes to three flashing lines, it's ready to take a temperature. The APP message will still appear temporarily from time to time, but it won't get in the way of taking readings.
Even if you weren't planning on using the Kinsa app, we suggest trying it out for yourself. You might be surprised how handy it is!

For Android's reasons as to why they specifically require location data to connect with BLE devices, please read this page from Android's official documentation, specifically the first paragraph with the blue star: kinsa.help/AndroidBLE
View ArticleWhen you install the Kinsa app on your smartphone, you will be asked to grant permissions to the Kinsa app in order to use some features. We take your privacy extremely seriously, and so in the interests of full transparency, here are the full reasons explaining why we ask for access to each of those features.
Identity
We ask for this permission so that we can get the make and model of your smartphone to see if it is compatible with our smart thermometers, specifically the Kinsa Smart Stick. Without this information, we would not be able to know whether you were using a compatible smartphone with your Smart Stick, which could produce inaccurate temperature readings.
Location
We ask for this permission because of the "Groups" feature within the Kinsa app. "Groups" allows parents to opt-in (note: this does not happen automatically, you have to specifically turn this feature on to use it) to anonymously communicate with other families who attend the same school. This allows other parents to see if there are fevers or other illnesses going around their school so they can make informed decisions about their childs health. This feature relies on location data in order to offer a list of nearby school groups to join.
Photos / Media / Files
We ask for this permission because alongside storing temperatures inside the Kinsa app, you can also log other kinds of medical data, including notations of medications taken and photos of rashes or spots. Without this permission, you would not have the ability nor option to add photos of rashes, spots, and other symptoms to your medical history within the Kinsa app.
Microphone
This is a very important permission to ask for. Our Kinsa Smart Stick thermometer connects to your smartphone using the microphone and headphone jack. The Kinsa app then converts the audio signals coming from the thermometer into a temperature reading displayed in the Kinsa app. This is the core technology behind how the Kinsa Smart Stick worksand therefore is necessary to grant in order to work.
Bluetooth Connection Information
This is also a very important permission. We make two types of smart Bluetooth thermometers: the Kinsa Smart Ear and the Kinsa QuickCare. Each connects to your phone through a wireless Bluetooth connection. Without this permission, neither the Smart Ear nor QuickCare would beable to synchronize temperature readings with the Kinsa app.
While not all of these permissions are necessary to simply take a temperature, they are all necessary if you were to use all the features of the Kinsa app.
As we mentioned earlier, we take your privacy extremely seriously. We do not share your personal medical information with anyone. For more information about how seriously we take your privacy, please check out our Privacy Policy.

Sometimes the prompt is in the Notifications bar at the top of the screen, its an audible alert, or its a dialog box on the screen. Each user should research how Smart Lock works on their individual device, including finding out what your PIN or pass key is for your device, for it may vary across device types.

UPd - Firmware update in progress. Wait 30 seconds until it completes before taking another temperature.
APP - This displays when further guidance is communicated within the Kinsa app. Examples of guidance are:
On initial setup, pair the app with thermometer
Battery is critically low
Fever guidance available
Queued readings; sync to app ASAP to store them
Err - Problem detected, check the app for details. Common causes are:
Taking the thermometer out of the mouth/armpit/rectum before the reading completes
Placing the thermometer before turning it on (if this is done, the probe tip is too warm to begin a reading)
H - Temperature is above normal human range. To correct this:
Hold still when taking a temperature
Dont eat or drink for at least 10 minutes before taking a temperature
Dont take a temperature while in the bath, sauna or other heated environment
View ArticleLife happens. Whether its moving into your new house or into the next room, sometimes things go missing at the worst possible time. We totally understand and wewon'tlet that get in the way of using your Kinsa thermometer.
Often times, customers contact us when theycan'tfind their black Setup Adapter when they need to recalibrate their Kinsa Smart Stick thermometer after upgrading to a new phone or to a new operating system version. If this sounds like you, the good news is that its probably in the case for your Smart Stick thermometer.
When you first set up your Smart Stick, a shortvideo walks you through the initial setup process. In that video, we recommend storing theblack Setup Adapter in the compartment in the underside of the case of the Smart Stick. If you haven't already, please checkthat compartment to see if you put it back there after your initial setup.
But if your black Setup Adapter really has gone missing, we have some bad news. After five years on the market, the Smart Stick has been discontinued and we don't have any Setup Adapters left in stock to sell separately. At this point, we'd recommend upgrading to our new Kinsa QuickCare which is wireless and doesn't use any adapters at all.
Ifyou'vemisplaced a different part, other than the black Setup Adapter, please let us know at kinsa.help/contactus. Our Customer Happiness team will be more than happy to help you replace whichever parts you need.

It turns on but doesn't stay on
Please try the following:
Remove the batteries.

View ArticleThe Kinsa Smart Ear can display temperatures in both Fahrenheit (F) for Americans and Celsius (C) for the rest of the world.
Note: Kinsa thermometers and the Kinsa app handle their temperature scales separately. If you change the scale in your Kinsa app, it won't change on your Kinsa thermometer's built-in display.
If your Smart Ear is using the wrong temperature scale for you, here's how to fix that:
Turn over your Smart Ear and slide the battery cover down to open the compartment.
Remove the batteries.
Behind the batteries, you'll see a black and silver switch.
For Fahrenheit (F)push the switch down away from the Smart Ear's sensor.
For Celsius (C)push the switch up towards the Smart Ear's sensor.
Replace the batteries and battery cover.
Turn on your Smart Ear and you'll see the new temperature scale on the display.
View ArticleNo, we do not. Kinsa thermometers reportthe temperature accurately, and so a reading under the arm will be lower than an oral reading. However, our fever guidance feature takes this into account. It knows to mark a 99.4 F (37.4 C) underarm temperature as a low fever because it is equivalent to a 100.4 F (38 C) oral temperature.
The Mayo Clinic states that the following thermometer readings generally indicate a fever:
Rectal, ear or temporal artery temperature of 100.4 F (38 C) or higher
Oral temperature of 100 F (37.8 C) or higher
Armpit temperature of 99 F (37.2 C) or higher

View ArticleThe wireless Kinsa QuickCare (and the discontinued wiredSmart Stick) can take great oral, underarm and rectal measurements when used properly with the right technique.
The most common reason for problem readings stem from howthey'retaken, so follow these steps to get great readings every time:
Pro Tips for All Types of Readings
Dont take any readings after eating, drinking or exercising.
For the QuickCare wireless stick thermometer, always wait for three flashing lines on the display BEFORE putting the tip in your mouth, armpit, etc. Wait for these three flashing lines before every reading.
If you or your Kinsa were somewhere with a different temperature (like outside on a cold day) wait until you and your Kinsa are used to the new temperature before taking a reading.
For Oral Readings
For oral readings, always put the tip in your mouths heat pocket; under the tongue at the back of the mouth.
The temperature in one spot of the mouth can be very different from another so always put the tip in the same heat pocket for every reading.

For Underarm Readings
Make sure there are no clothes in the way, and that there has been no exercise or bathing in the 15 minutes before the reading is taken. Underarm readings are around 1Flower than oral readings. This is perfectly normal.
The Kinsa app automatically takes underarm readings into account when calculating the severity of the fever, but it does not artificiallyadd that 1Fto the temperature reading.

For Rectal Readings
A rectal reading is the best way to measure your baby's temperature. To keep your baby as comfortable as possible while getting a great reading, follow this dedicated guide:

Open the Kinsa app on your smartphone.
Plug the Kinsa thermometer into your phone. Its recommended that you use the extension cord that came with the Kinsa as it will likely help return a more accurate reading (and will be more comfortable).
On the temperature tab, choose your method for taking a temperature (oral, underarm, or rectal).
Place the thermometer according to your desired reading location (under the base of the tongue, in the bend of the armpit, or with only the silver tip placed in the rectum)
