He's incredibly smart, visionary, always tries to do the right thing, empowers his team...he trusts his team a lot and sometimes they need more guidance.
The CEO is super smart and experienced. He cares TREMENDOUSLY about people. Some say his message isn't always trickled down to everyone but the execs and corp comm make a lot of effort to help with that.

Generally the culture is awesome. Engineering is a great environment - there can be some politics, but if political wrangling isn't your thing its not a mandatory participation thing to work here. ;)

Very flexible work from home policy. A lot of people work from home on Fridays. My manager is really cool about it.

Involved but they realize that you are interviewing them as well and have regard for that.

Background check for sure.
Background check.
What's the internship program like at Leaf Group?
They are mostly paid and some have even been hired after interning here.
I'm sure it varies across the company, but on my team, the internships were very paid very well (for an internship), and were often offered permanent positions after 3 or 6 months. Interns were given a lot of time and space to learn and find project that were interesting to them, but the ones who did well and went on to permanent jobs were ones who really jumped in and made contributions as if they were regular team members, and took a lot of ownership over their projects. On my team, I think half of them people had started out as interns.
What should I wear for an interview at Leaf Group?
The company in general is very casual - (engineers like me to a fault). An interview is a chance to put your best foot forward so i would wear something that shows you care about the position you are applying for, which may vary from very geeky for those aforementioned engineering jobs to full on sales mode with a blazer etc.
They are casual so no suits or anything.

I had a 30-minute phone call, a 1-hour informal coffee meeting with my future supervisor, and then a 3-hour formal interview with the whole team that including whiteboarding.
Three to three and a half hours depending. They know people don't always have a lot of days to take off so they try to do it in one shot.

Usually they are tied to which department you are in but they are all pretty fun. We've seen cooking classes, volunteer outings, dinners, etc.
We could use more.
