  • Please note: If you are not seeing your calorie burn in the app it is most likely because you have not saved a weight or a height to your account. You can update your profile information such as height, weight, and location settings on our website by visiting your profile settings ( https://www.mapmyfitness.com/account/my_profile ).

As of April 2019, we've improved how we calculate calories based on the recommendations from the Compendium of Physical Activities. We are continually updating our app and believe that these changes reflect a more accurate representation of your caloric burn.

The calorie algorithm can have problems if there are recording issues with your workout or if your profile settings are incorrect. If you see calorie differences on the app from workout-to-workout, you may need to delete and reinstall the app. You should also check your MapMy profile settings to make sure your profile height and weight are accurate. Profiles and workouts without age, height, weight, gender, activity type and duration data will not record calories correctly.

Calories are determined by age, height, weight, gender, the intensity of the workout, distance traveled, and activity type. Heart rate does not currently factor into the equation. Our products calculate total burn, which includes caloric burn for both resting and active phases of activity. This means the calories you would typically burn by merely being alive automatically add to the number of calories you would burn from whichever activity you do.

We have based our calorie count on established scientific research detailed in the Compendium of Physical Activities. This update may impact the estimated number of calories burned for a given workout. For more information about the way we calculate caloric burn please visit: https://sites.google.com/site/compendiumofphysicalactivities/corrected-mets.

  • Please note: The most recent version(s) of our app(s)for Android no longer work congruently with Power Saving/Battery Saver/PowerOptimizer Mode(s). If you are having tracking issues when your phone goes to sleep (screen turns off), try disablingthesemodes. To do this, go to your phoneSettings > Battery > under "App Power Saving" select "Detail"> locate MapMy app(s) > turn off power saving.

GPS accuracy depends on a variety of factors, including the device you're using and its operating system, battery life, cellular network, weather conditions, and whether you are in an open area (congested cellular conditions, trees, and buildings can obstruct GPS).Keep this in mind and please know that slight miscalculations are to be expected when recording.

The tips outlined below should restore normal GPS recording to the app on most Android devices with the latest OS. This will prevent common problemsincluding incorrect distance, stats tracking, and GPS-necessary audio feedback. Fixing any incorrectly recorded stats or route details requires editing the workout, and/or editing the route.

First, ensure you are using the latest version of our app. Manydeviceshave special GPSbehaviors, and the latest version of the app handles thesebehaviors the best. To upgrade the app:

Enter the "Play Store" app from your app drawer.

Tap the menu button and click on "Settings". Tap on "Auto-update Apps" and select the second or third option, pick whichever better suits your situation.

Return to the "Play Store" menu then tap the menu button and select "My Apps and Games". From this list, scroll down to find our app and select it.

Then from the details view, you may select the "Update" button if you see one (If you only see "Open" and "Uninstall" then you already have the latest version). If you have already paid for the + version, you will not be charged again.

Next, ensure that you have enabled GPS on your Android device and for our app. Instructions on how to do this are below.

Enabling GPS Tracking on Your Device

Enter your phone's device's "Settings" app.

Select "Location" and ensure that it is enabled and that you have elected to use GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks. Enabling all three or selecting "High Accuracy" mode is required for accurate tracking.

    here.

    3. From the "Settings" app, select the "Date and time" item and ensure the "Automatic date and time" and "Automatic time zone" checkboxes are checked. GPS and our app relyheavilyon an accurate time and time zone. Having your device set to the incorrect time zone or time may prolong the time taken to obtain a GPS fix, and may result in other inaccuracies in your recorded workout stats.

Granting MapMy Permission to Use Your Location:

When you first install the MapMy app, we will ask your permission to use Location Services. Double-check this permissionhas been granted by:

    Enter your phone's "Settings" app.

Tap "Apps" to view a list of applications you have installed.

Scroll to MapMy and select the MapMy app(s) you have installed

    Tap "Permissions"

Make sure that "Location" is toggled on.

If you are still having GPS issues after the steps above, try these additional steps that are known to resolve almost all issues.

Restart your phone regularly. Usually holding down the power button and selecting "Reboot" or "Power off" will do this.

Remember you must be outside with a clear view of the sky when your device is searching for a GPS signal.

Ensure you have a good internet connection when your device is first searching for a GPS signal. Your device may need to use the internet to obtain hints that will greatly reduce the time it takes to find your location.

Why do other apps show my location but yours does not?

Please be aware that just because other apps like the "Maps" app or our app may show your location on the map, this does not mean that your device has a GPS signal or aGPS location fix has been obtainedor that it is functioningproperly. Other apps may use cellular network or Wi-Fi based estimatesto show your location on the map, these estimates are notsufficient for tracking activities like walking, running or riding.

Why does your app not work with my device's GPS?

Android only allows our app to turn your device's GPS hardware on and off. Our app does not have permission from Android to diagnose and fix issues. The quality and time taken to find a GPS signal is dependent on your Android device and its manufacturer.

    New and Improved Tracking

After extensive research and testing, we recently updated the filters used to measure distance in MapMy. For every workout, our app processes the GPS data that we receive from your phone in order to map your route and calculate distance. Prior to this update, our calculations did not filter out extraneous data points consistently, so we built a new system to provide a more accurate and consistent measurement of workout distance. This new system does a better job of filtering out “noisy” GPS points, which means that your workouts may be slightly shorter than the distances that were previously reported by our app. We apologize for any frustration or confusion this change has caused, but we do strongly believe that the new system produces a more accurate measurement than before. You can learn more about this change in our Marker’s Blog, found

  • The tips outlined below should restore normal GPS recording to the app on the iPhone. This shouldprevent most problems related to tracking, including incorrect distance, stats tracking, and GPS-necessary audio feedback. Fixing any incorrectly recorded stats or route details will require editing the workout, and/or editing the route.

The app is not intended to record GPS activities or other stats when using iPods/iPads/tablets since they do not have a native GPS chip for tracking without 'A-GPS' and a cellular signal. For any issues with GPS on an Android device, read through our Android GPS help article.

    Enabling Location Services on iOS:

MapMy must have access to your location at all times in order to properly record your workouts. To enable this visit:

iOS Settings App > Privacy > enable Location Services > MapMy > Toggle MapMy to "While Using the App" (iOS 11, 12, 13 devices) or "Always" (iOS 8, 9, 10 devices).

    iOS 11, 12, 13 iOS 8, 9, 10

Selecting "Never" will prevent any tracking of location data with MapMy.

Note: If you do not have location services enabled for MapMy at the time of your workout starting, you will see the following series images and prompts to help enable this setting and ensure optimal GPS tracking during your workout.

    ..

Enabling Background App Refresh (all iOS versions):

There are two settings for all iOS devices that must be enabled in order for GPS tracking to successfully connect and occur with MapMy: Location Services and Background App Refresh.

    Within the iOS Settings Appvisit:

iOS Settings App > General > Background App Refresh

While here, be sure to enable this setting for all MapMy apps. If this feature is turned off, MapMy will not record any activity when the phone's screen turns off or when you navigate away from the app. [Please Note: If your phone is in"Low Power Mode", Background App Refresh is automatically disabled.]

Ifthe Background App Refreshand Location Services Settingsare enabledproperly and you are still experiencing tracking issues, please try the following steps:

Force quit the app and any other open apps, especially processor-intensive ones such as games, GPStracking apps, etc., as these can cause intense strain on a phone. This strain results in error tracking. Relaunch it and see if the problem persists.

Delete the application from your phone entirely, and then reinstall the app from the app store. You will not be charged again for the app you have downloaded previously.

Restart your cell phone - this can sometimes free up memory and restore functionality. Even smartphones and computers need a power-nap.

Turn off Wi-Fibefore starting your workout. Wi-Fi is known to decrease the accuracy of your GPS and also cause network data transfer conflicts.

Toggle Airplane Mode on and then off from your phone's settings.

Navigate to your device's System Settings and from the Date and Time settings enable "automatic time zone." This will prevent GPS points from being reported at an incorrect time when connecting to a GPS signal.

You may need to turn Auto-Pause off from the in-app settings. Auto-Pause goes into effect after 30 seconds of inactivity or when traveling less than 2.4 mph and, if you do not intend to use it, can cause some problems with distance and time measurement.

Be sure to turn on your phone's lock-screen after beginning your workout - this will prevent the app from accidentally pausing your workout if something brushes against the screen.

Make sure you're running the app on an up-to-date Operating System. For iPhones, you can check for a software update by going to your phone's Settings app > tapping "General" > tapping "Software Update" and then updating.

  • If you haveneversuccessfully paired your shoesto the MapMy application, please review our Help Center article on Getting Started, as the troubleshooting tips are different in thiscase.

How to Reconnect your UA Connected Footwear

Once your shoes have been paired the first time, the app will automatically search for and attempt to connect to them each time you open the app. While searching for your shoes, a red loading circle will appear around the shoe icon in the upper right, as pictured below. If the shoes fail to connect, a red X will appear on the shoe icon.

    Force quit

    To establish a connection:

Tap the shoe icon in the top right corner of the "Track Workout" screen

Make sure your shoe is nearby (within 4 feet) and awake. Try inverting yourright shoe upside down and then right side up to awaken the sensor. Please note that the shoe will go to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity in order to preserve the battery.

    Tap "Connect"

    Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If your shoes still won't connect, try the following:

    the MapMy application

Make sure you're running the latest version of the MapMy app by checking your app store for an update.

Move away from other smart shoes or unused Bluetooth devices (at least 20 ft)

Place yourrightshoe on its side to strengthen the shoe's signal strength

Navigate to your phone's Bluetooth settings and forget the shoes from your list of remembered devices, if present.

From your phone's Settings, toggle Bluetooth off and then on(Note: for iOS users, do not do this by swiping up on your iPhone to access the control center. Please visit your iPhone's Settings app and toggle Bluetooth off/on from there)

For Android users, check your phone's settings to make sure Location Services are enabled and permissions granted for the MapMy app. To verify, please go to your phone's Settings app > Location > Enable. Then navigate to your phone's Application Manager setting> MapMyRun > Permissions > Location > Enabled. If the location isn't enabled in both places, your shoes will not be found in the scanning process.

Re-open the MapMy app, making sure your shoe is nearby (within 4 feet) and awake. Try inverting yourright shoe upside down and then right side up to awaken the sensor.

If you're still having issues with connection, let us know by submitting a support ticket within the app. Requests submitted in-app contain additional information that can help our engineers to diagnose your issue. To submit a request, open your MapMyapp > navigate tothe app's menu > scroll to the bottom and select "Help" > tap "Contact Support " > describe the issue and submit. One of our agents will bein touch with you shortly!

    Troubleshooting Inaccurate Distances

If the distance recorded by your Connected Footwear seems inaccurate, you are now able to calibrate your shoes. To access Calibration Settings:

Open Shoe Home by tapping the shoe icon in the upper right of the "Track Workout" screen

Tap the Settings icon (looks like a gear cog) above "Latest Workout"

    Tap “Calibration”

To begin calibration, you must choose a reference runor a run where you know what the distance should have been, then tap “Continue.”Note: longer runs are better than shorter runs for calibration.

Use the + and - buttons to adjust the calibration percentage until the “Adjusted Distance” for your reference run matches the distance that it should have been, then tap “Save.”

Calibration will only impact future runs, and will not change the distance of your reference run. You must edit the workout if you wish to have the distance of your reference run changed. Further, if you have more than one pair of Connected Footwear, you will need to calibrate each pair separately.

You can return to Calibration Settings as often as you would like to dial in your shoe’s calibration.

  • Our app does have some ability to function without data (airplane mode, traveling abroad, no signal, etc.). You will be able to track an activity and create a map by recording if the device you are using has a native GPS chip. However, having a data signal (EDGE, 3G, LTE) definitely increases the reliability of the recording.

The app does require a data connection for logging in, viewing maps and workouts (and other information within the app), and most importantly for saving recorded workouts. There is a new local storage option that will save maps temporarily until you can find a data connection (cellular or Wi-FI), which should make it a bit easier to take advantage of the app in areas with low coverage or abroad.

If you do not have data then the app may not function correctly, especially if your device uses Assisted GPS like iPods, iPads, and other tablets. Also, unless you have Live Tracking on, the app only uses data when saving an activity or browsing your activity history.

  • After extensive research and testing, we recently updated the filters used to measure distance in MapMy. We believe our GPS tracking now provides a higher degree of accuracy by:

    Makingtracking errors less likely

    Reducingdistance overestimation

    Better matchingindustry standards

For every workout, our app processes the GPS data that we receive from your phone to map your route and calculate distance. Before this update, our calculations did not filter out extraneous data points consistently, so we built a new system to provide a more accurate and consistent measurement of workout distance. This new system does a better job of filtering out “noisy” GPS points.

    this Help Center article

You can learn more about this change and the technical requirements for building this filter in our Marker’s Blog article found here.

    Available Stats

Available on your watch during your workout:

    Duration

    Distance

    Average Pace

    Current Heart Rate

Stride and Cadence (only available if your HOVR shoes are connected directly to the Apple Watch app)

Available on your watch after your workout:

    Calories

    Average Heart Rate

    Intensity

Cadence (only available on workouts started directly from the watch)

Stride (only available if your HOVR shoes were connected directly to the Apple Watch app when recording. More info on Apple Watch + HOVR here.)

How do I customize the stats displayed on my watch during my workout?

The stats displayed on your watch while recording cannot be changed at this time.

    Missing Heart Rate

If your Apple Watch fails to track or report your heart rate, try the steps below.

Ensure you've enabled Apple Health permissions: Open the Health app on your phone > go to Sources > select the MapMy app > Turn All Categories On (or turn off and back on).

If that doesn't work, try deleting and reinstalling the MapMy app from your phone and watch.

Before deleting the app, ensure your workouts have synced and can be seen in your workouts list. Workouts that were not fully synced before deleting the app cannot be recovered. To check your workouts list:

Open the MapMy app on your phone > select the clipboard icon at the bottom right > choose the Workouts tab at the top right. If you're missing workouts from the list, please refer to the section below, regarding Workout Syncing, before reinstalling.

Does heart rate factor into my calorie burn?

Only workouts started directly from the Apple Watch will have heart rate factored into the calorie burn information that is reported back.

    Mirroring Delays

For users who start their workout recordings from their phones: If your workout stats fail to mirror from your phone onto your watch, please follow the steps below.

Manually open the app on your watch if it fails to launch on its own and wait a few moments for the mirroring to automatically begin.

Ensure that your phone's Bluetooth is turned on.

If your watch has a passcode, make sure you've unlocked it before beginning the recording.

Keep your phone and watch near each other when you start the recording.

Keep your phone with you and in proximity to the watch for the duration of your workout.

    If that does not work:

Ensure your workouts have synced:Open the MapMy app on your phone > select the clipboard icon at the bottom right > choose the Workouts tab at the top right.

Delete the app on both your phone and watch.

Restart your phone and Apple Watch.

Reinstall the app and reconnect it with your watch.

    Lost Workouts & Syncing Delays

If a workout that wasstarted and saved from your Apple Watch fails to sync to your account on our website or the mobile app, you can try the following.

Please do not log out or reinstall the app with unsynced workouts. This will result in the permanent loss of that data.

Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.

Keep your phone and watch near each other.

Open the MapMy app on your Apple Watch.

Swipe from right to left on the Activities screen.

Tap each workout to reattempt syncing.

How do I delete my watch workout?

To delete a watch workout, pause and finish the workout. Once the workout syncs to your account you can delete it from your workouts list in the phone app.

    Inaccurate Distance

If your watch workout reports incorrect distances or fails to report distance entirely, you can try the steps below.

For users who start their workouts directly from the watch app:

Open the Settings app directly on your watch > go to General > select Location Services > toggle this on (should be green when enabled).

    2. Open the app on your watch a few moments before beginning your workout. This should give your watch time to connect to GPS.

For users who start their workouts from their phones and mirror their stats onto the watch face:

Your phone is in control of your workout's distance tracking. Visit our other Help Center article for phone troubleshooting tips.

Will I get a map of my workout?

Series 2 or newer watches with Location Services turned on will provide maps of your workout routes.

Series 1 watches do not have GPS capabilities and will not provide you with a map when starting your workout form the watch. Series 1 watch users can get maps by starting their workouts from the phone app and mirroring their stats onto the watch.

How is my distance being tracked?

If you begin the workout directly on your watch, your watch's GPS is responsible for your distance. Series 1 watches, which do not have GPS capabilities, will estimate distance with the built-in accelerometer.

If you begin the workout from your phone and mirror your workout stats onto the watch, your phone's GPS is responsible for your distance.

  • While the app itself does not have the ability to track your steps throughout the day, you can import your steps from various compatible devices which can be viewed on your 24/7 Dashboard.

Additionally, some phones have a native pedometer (motion sensor) built in, which you can use to import steps into your MapMy account, if compatible.

To enable step tracking, visit the app settings or sidebar and select "Apps & Devices" from the menu. You'll be able to connect to your device's built-in pedometer here, if available.

Please note that some newer phone models may not yet be compatible with the app for step tracking.

  • The mobile app and website both calculate elevation gain for recorded workouts. Our products determine elevation gain using a method called Cumulative Elevation Gain to measure the total climb of a given activity, meaning all rolling hills, and ascents are recorded as elevation gain. Our app sources this data using information from the United States Geological Survey. Please be aware that elevation can sometimes be skewed on the app if there is a GPS inaccuracy. We still cross-reference with the USGS data, but it could result in differing elevation stats.

MVP users can receive extended features for elevation, including using the segment highlighter to get an in-depth view of your workout summary and minute by minute analysis of elevation, pace, and more.

    App Elevation

Elevation can be seen on the mobile app by accessing either a route from the route list or by viewing the workout itself and scrolling to the elevation graph. On the app, press "Show All Data" in order to additional elevation graphs for your workout.

    Web Elevation

    1. Select a route from your history

    2. Beneath the route preview is an area labeled Elevation with a line graph.

    3. Starting and max elevation will appear alongside the total elevation gained beneath this graph.

For more information on gain and climb visit our climb information page.

  • Getting Started

To manually upload a workout file into MapMyFitness, visit the MapMy Import Page and select the last widget that reads "Import From .tcx, .gpx, .fit, or .hrm." From here, you'll be asked to select the file from your computer to have it import into your MapMyFitness account.

    Troubleshooting

Activity syncs incorrectly from file import to MapMyFitness

Most workout data is accepted for most file imports. We currently accept the following file formats:

    TCX

    GPX

    HRM

    FIT

Even if a file type is one we accept, there are a handful of exceptions to our ability to import these files. For instance, if a TCX or GPX file doesn't include time-series data or GPS data then it most likely will not import to our system. Many times converted files will not upload in our system either.

Additionally, some workout systems measure statistics differently, which can lead to differences in workout stats for things like elevation gain or splits. We do not always have a good fix for these discrepancies but hope to cut down on these sorts of stats differencesas we standardize practices and grow with our partners.

Can I bulk import my workouts from another product or service?

Unfortunately, at this time, MapMy does not support bulk importing of historical workouts. Workouts will need to be manually imported one by one if they occurred in the past. For future workouts, you can try linking your MapMy account so that newly recorded workouts will automatically transfer to our platform. Learn more by checking out our partners here.

Questions? If you're still having issues, please submit a support ticket here and one of our agents will be in touch soon!

  • We want our users to reliably log each recorded activity, however, there are still a variety of factors that can make saving a route difficult. Different types of interference can cause an error saving, including:

    GPS signal strength

    Cellular or data signal

    Duration of a recording/workout

    Surrounding environment

Uncrowded and open areas tend to be best when saving, ideallyconnected to a wifi signal.

The latest version of the app has a perfect save feature placing workouts unable to sync in the app settings until you have a strong data connection. If an activity fails to save: Navigate to the app settings > Select the "Unsynced Workouts" option to see a list of any activities not synced/saved. If an activity is not here then you will, unfortunately, have to manually log it.

    .

Please Note: If the app is uninstalled/reinstalled, any unsynced workouts will be lost.

  • Battery dying on the road or trail? Here are a few tips for optimizing your phone's battery when tracking with the app. Typically the app uses about ten to twenty-percent of your battery per hour that it's turned on. However, this can vary depending on the device you're using, whether your device is able to locate a GPS signal, and even the temperature outside.*Some Android phones typically get less battery life with our app because the algorithm they use to establish a GPS signal ties in wifi, accelerometer, cellular data, GPS signal, and other power requirements.

Ten to twenty-percent per hour is normal of all GPS tracking apps on phones that typically have a ten-hour use and battery life, but obviously, tying in any other factors (music player, texting, mail downloading, etc.) can cause a significant drain. If you are experiencing issues with your battery dying quicker than normal, you may need to invest in an external battery case or charger.

The following are a few tips to maximize your battery while using our app for a workout recording.

Ensure your phone's general settings do not have an option enabled to keep your screen on.

Disable the "Keep Screen On" optionwithin your MapMyapp's settings.

    Turn your device's Wi-Fioff.

If you are not using Bluetooth to connect a heart rate monitor or other sensor, turn this off in your general settings.

Ensure your push notifications, and mail push or fetch settings are turned off.

Force quit any other open apps, especially those requiring GPS or the use of the motion coprocessor, and background app refresh.

If you use an iPhone, navigate to the Background App Refresh settings. You may want to turn off unused apps, as this feature allows apps to refresh throughout the day when you are not using them directly. EX: MapMyFitness app does not record distance or time if this is turned off and you navigate to another app while recording an activity. NOTE: This feature should only be available for those using iOS 8 or earlier, as our new version of the app merged these settings in iOS 9's location services area.

In Location Services (iOS only) turn off superfluous apps that are tracking your location when unnecessary. If there are many utilizing GPS at the same time itcould be interfering with the MapMy app's ability to access GPS properly and causing excessive battery drain.

The following should help minimize battery consumption by MapMy when not actively recording, or when app is running in the background.

Force quit the app after you have finished using it.

If you have step tracking enabled turn this off, check to see if MapMy stops using your location in the background.

If not in use, visit your device's Location Services settings and switch this off for the MapMy app you're using.

Note: Most phones have an optimum operational temperature. In some cold or hot climates, using your phone beyond this limit can cause it to shut down. In the event that you are using the app in an environment like this, we recommend either putting your phone in a case that will aid it in staying within those limits, or routinely checking to ensure the phone is still on.

  • We typically offer splits by each one mile or kilometer for recorded workouts, however, MVP users can choose different split intervals for further analysis.

    Mobile App

To view splits on your mobile device, select a GPS recorded workout from your workout list or Activity Feed. Scroll down below the map of your workout to see average stats and split information.

    iOS Android

    here

For workouts over certain distance thresholds, the distance of the default splits displayed in the app will increase as well. This means that for workouts over 10 miles/kilometers, you will see 2 mile/kilometer splits, and for workouts over 20 miles/kilometers, you will see 5 mile/kilometer splits. If your splits do not all fit on the screen, you can scroll horizontally by swiping left and right to view them.

If you are an MVP member, you can adjust the split interval by tapping on the settings cog to the right of the word "SPLITS," selecting the preferred interval, then tapping "Done."

    iOS Android

    Website

To view and adjust splits on the website, visit any of your workout summaries from the Workout Calendar. Once on the workout summary visit your splits and you'll see the following options to customize your split break down.

We also offer a Segment Highlighter feature so you can pick the segments of your workout that are important to you and allow you to view the stats for those specific segments. To access this, you will want to click on the Splits drop down menu and choose the Segment Highlighter from there.

Once you've chosen the Segment Highlighter, you'll want to use the speed and elevation graph at the bottom to choose what portion of your workout you'd like to view.

  • Live tracking is an MVP feature that allows other MapMyFitness users to track your progress while working out in real-time using a combination of GPS signal and cellular data. This feature requires a strong cellular signal and its reliability is dependent on a steady data connection. In areas with high cellular trafficor low signal, the feature may lapse.

Only the person wishing to be tracked needs to have our MVP membership. To view the person live tracking navigate to the app and simply select the "Live Tracking" tab. Any friends currently Live Tracking will be visible and broadcasting here. If you do not want to be tracked, you can turn off live tracking from the pre-workout menu after selecting the "Track Workout" option.

Please note, Live Tracking is only available in our mobile app, and that in order to view someone live tracking in our app, you cannot be actively recording a workout unless the friend is live tracking in your vicinity. MapMyFitness friends who are in the same geographic area will appear on the map while you record an activity.

    How to Use Live Tracking

    iOS

You can see the Live Tracking option at the top left of your "Workout Setup" page. Tap the icon to enable it.

    here

    Android

You can see the Live Tracking option at the top left of your "Workout Setup" page. Tap the icon to enable it.

    Troubleshooting

In order for Live Tracking to work, you will need to ensure a few settings are correct. The tips below should allow the proper functioning of the tracking feature.

Access your profile privacy settings and make sure your default privacy is set as public or friends: Privacy settings. Live tracking requires a public or friend's privacy setting depending on who you wish to be able to view your activity live. You will not be able to use this feature with your settings as private.

Turn on cellular data and ensure you have a good signal.

In order for the live tracking to work, you must be in motion.

You cannot view your live activity from your ownaccount. Users must be logged into a different account to view your workout from the"Live Tracking" tab in the app.

If you'd like to live track someone, turn on push notifications. This will allow you to be notified when one of your friends begins a workout.

Upgrade to the latest version of the app. Typically live tracking is optimized for the latest version.

When recording make sure your device has a clear line of sight to the sky so it has clear GPS and cellular signal.

Allow up to five minutes for Live Tracking to begin working once your workout and movement have started. This gives the app time to use data to triangulate and broadcast your location.

Please check that all these conditions have been met before reporting a problem with Live Tracking. We've been careful to make a deliberate set of steps to take to ensure that user privacy is respected - nobody can EVER live track you without your permission.

  • Splits are recorded when using any of our MapMy apps, and can be viewed on both mobile devices and the web.

    Mobile

To view splits on your mobile device, select a GPS recorded workout from your workout list or Activity Feed. Scroll down below the map of your workout to see average stats and split information.

    GPS troubleshooting tips

For workouts over certain distance thresholds, the distance of the default splits displayed in the app will increase as well. This means that for workouts over 10 miles/kilometers, you will see 2 mile/kilometer splits, and for workouts over 20 miles/kilometers, you will see 5 mile/kilometer splits. If your splits do not all fit on the screen, you can scroll horizontally by swiping left and right to view them.

If you are an MVP member, you can adjust the split interval by tapping on the settings cog to the right of the word "SPLITS," selecting the preferred interval, then tapping "Done."

If you are not an MVP member, you will still be able to see the one mile splits by viewing the workout on our website.

    Web

To view splits you will need to select a workout from your workout list. Once viewing the workout's details, to the right of the map is an option to select "Analysis Type: Splits." If you're MVP, you can choose the split distance from .1 mile to 10 miles; however, for non-MVP users, the default will always be 1 mile.

    Troubleshooting

If your splits do not record it could be because of a GPS error recording. If this happens, you should check out our to ensure that there are both no tracking issues, or app version updates causing splits to fail. If a workout fails to save correctly it will be impossible to recover splits and graphs.

Note: Be aware that splits load on the app and website after being processed by our servers, so the information will not be available immediately on the app until the activity has fully synced, or until it has had a few minutes for analysis.

  • Adding Comments

Activity Feed: From your Activity Feed you can add comments directly to posts by tapping the speech bubble icon, typing your messaging, and tapping "post."

Workouts: Once a friend finishes a workout, if your push notifications are turned on, you will have the ability to like or comment directly on their workout by tapping on the push notification. This comment will be attached to the specific workout and available for viewing in the future. If you're viewing a friend's workout on our website, you can scroll to the bottom to type and post a comment.

    Viewing Comments

Comments on your workouts are accessible in two ways:

Activity Feed: All comments on a workout can be seen via the Activity Feed post.

Workout Details: From your workout list, you can select any workout to view the Workout Details page. All comments will be present at the bottom.

    Deleting Comments

If you are the owner of a workout and someone has posted a comment that you wish to delete, you may do so by swiping from right to left on the comment (iOS), or by long pressingon the comment (Android), at which point a menu will appear. You can either delete the comment, and it will be permanently removed from your workout and Activity Feed post, or report the person who left the comment. This will also remove the comment from your workout and post.

    Community Feed

Why can't I comment or like my own workout anymore?

This change is in relation to our new feature, called . We had to more strictly enforce the privacy settings for liking/commenting in light of this new feature, in order to prevent having functionality that conflicts with user settings. For example, since the Community Feed will be full of public, user-generated content, that is available for everyone (even Private users) to see, we needed a way to ensure that private users could not engage with the Community Feed. If private userswere able to like/comment on posts in the Community Feed, others would be able tosee that activity and we'd be violating the underlying principles of the setting "Private," meaning that others cannot see your activity.

We are sorry for the unintended fallout of the new way this setting behaves. We can suggest, however, that you change your profile setting to "Friends" and then refrain from adding/accepting any friends. You can also keep all of your workouts themselves private while maintaining a "Friends Only" profile setting. This would allow you to comment/like your own workouts, while preventing others (even friends) from being able to see them.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect MapMyWalk, MapMyHike, MapMyRide, or MapMyFitness to Samsung Health?

Yes, all MapMy apps now integrate with Samsung Health.

If I'm using my Samsung Gear device to track workouts with MapMyRun, how can I make sure they sync with Samsung Health?

In order to sync workouts recorded with your Samsung Gear device, please open the MapMyRun app on your Gear device after saving the workout, and an automatic sync will be initiated. Please ensure that your Gear device is connected to your phone via Bluetooth at that time. Your workout should then appear in your MapMyRun account and Samsung Health app on your mobile device.

I'm seeing duplicate workouts in Samsung Health. How can I prevent this?

If you also use Samsung Health with MyFitnessPal or Endomondo, we recommend using only one UA appto sync your exercise to Samsung Health. Syncing exercise with Samsung Health from multiple UA apps may cause issues with duplicate workouts. To edit your Samsung Health sync settings, go to the "Connect Apps & Devices" menu in MapMyRun and select Samsung Health.

How come my step and sleep data doesn't sync from Samsung Health to MapMy?

At this time, our integration is only equipped to read/writeworkout data between the two apps.

When I connect my accounts, do historical workouts get imported?

Upon connection, the last 200 workouts in Samsung Health should import to MapMy. If they already exist within our system, we shouldn't duplicate them.

  • MapMyRun, MapMyFitness, MapMyRide, MapMyWalk & MapMyHike

In terms of functionality, there is no difference between the MapMy apps. You will be able to record any type of workout using any of the apps or sites. You can use your username and password from an existing account to sign into any of our other sites and apps, so there's no need to create a second account. Your MVP membership, workouts and all other data will transfer no matter what MapMyapp you use.

The main difference between the free MapMy apps and sites is that each is catered toward an individual audience and will provide a default activity type, as well as nearby and recommended maps based on that app's user base. For instance, using MapMyRun will provide nearby running routes others have recorded, while MapMyRide will provide nearby routes for cyclists.

    + Apps

The main difference between the free and + versions of our apps is that the + apps provide an ad-free experience. For clarity's sake, the MapMy+apps do not entitle you to the features of our MVP membership. MVP features must be subscribed to separately. To read more about the MVP featuresvisit mvp.mapmyfitness.com.

Please be advised that the Plus versions ofall MapMy apps are no longer receiving updates and will not be available for download from any app stores.

    This change includes MapMyRun+, MapMyFitness+, MapMyWalk+, MapMyRide+, and MapMyHike+.

If you choose not to switch apps, your + app will continue to operate as it does today for some time, but will no longer receive our regular updates and improvements. Additionally, it is possible that you will lose all access to the + app entirely at some point in the future.

More information regarding this change can be found here.

    Frequently Asked Questions

If I delete my MapMyRide account, will it also delete my MapMyWalk account?

Yes, if you delete any MapMy account, all of your account information will be removed from our database. This is true even if you have multiple MapMy apps installed on your phone. If you want to separate activities, you'll need to create two separate accounts.

  • Why am I required to change my password?

When MyFitnessPal announced a data security issue affecting MyFitnessPal user accounts on March 29, 2018, we recommended that all users with an account on the MyFitnessPal platform immediately change their password on the site, and on any other sites where they may have used the same credentials. At that time we indicated that we also would be requiring affected MyFitnessPal users to change their passwords.

Because some MapMy accounts use the same login credentials as affected MyFitnessPal accounts, we are now requiring those users change their account passwords.*

*Please note that these users only need to update their password on one platform (MapMy or MyFitnessPal) and that will update the password for both.

What if I already changed my password?

If you received an email or an in-app notification from us about the mandatory password reset, our systems indicate you have not changed your account password since March 29, 2018. If you have not subsequently updated your password, we are now requiring that users with MapMy accounts which share passwords with affected MyFitnessPal accounts update their passwords.

How do I change my password before I’m forced to?

You can proactively change your password via one of the two options below.

    1. You can change your password in Account Settings by logging into https://www.mapmyfitness.com and copying https://www.mapmyfitness.com/account/settings into your browser. Input your current password and your new password, then click “Save.”

    2. If you've forgotten your password, you can request a password reset email by clicking the "Forgot password or username" link on the sign-in screen of our apps, or by visiting https://www.mapmyfitness.com/auth/forgot_password in a web browser.

What if I don't change my password?

If you have not changed your password since March 29, 2018, you will be required to change it during September 2018. If this happens, you may find yourself suddenly logged out of the app because your old password is no longer valid. Follow the steps above to reset your password to regain access to your account with a new password. If you wish to avoid this disruption in your access to and use of the app, we recommend changing your password now.

Can you tell me my current password?

No. For security purposes, Under Armour does not store passwords in clear text, so passwords are not human readable.

What should I change my password to?

We recommend that your new password be something unique that you don’t use on any other site or app.

A note ondata from third parties (i.e.Fitbit, Google Fit, Apple Watch, iOS Motion Sensor, Garmin Connect, Misfit, Jawbone UP, Withings, etc).

Any workout, step, or weight data that is imported intoyour MapMy account from a third party will sync to MFP; however, this is not a two-way street. In other words, third party data that syncs directlytoMFP will not sync to MapMy. The only type of MyFitnessPal data you can track in MapMy is workouts logged in MyFitnessPal, such as activity type, duration, average pace, and total calories burned.

    Troubleshooting

If you are not seeing the data mentioned above once linked, please double-check and make sure you have entered your height, weight, and any other details in your profile on both sites, and that the information matches. Also, please double check to make sure your time zones are correct and match in both areas.

In the event that you are still not seeing any information transfer, please confirm you have correctly linked the two programs. The best way to do this is online at www.MyFitnessPal.com. Once signed in, go to the main "Apps" tab. Mid-right of that page, you should see a list of your connected partners. If you are not finding any connections on that page, then visit the main gallery, findMapMy,and try connecting again.

If the integration appears to beconnected, but you are still not seeing anyinformation sync, please try disconnecting and reconnecting the twofrom within theMapMy app.

    To disconnect/reconnect,

Open MapMyapp> accessthe menu by tapping the "More" icon in the lower right of the Track Workout screen (iOS), or tap the three horizontal bars in the upper left (Android)

Select "Connect Apps & Devices" from the menu

    Tap ‘MyFitnessPal’

    Tap "Disconnect"

Once unlinked, try re-establishing the connection.Afterward, try adding a new workout on MapMy and then waiting about 15 minutes to see if the workoutthen transfers to MyFitnessPal.

The green lines that appear on site maps are bike paths. These can be turned on and off by checking the box in the Route Creation Toolbox when viewing or editing a route. The following is a listing of the bike path definitions:

Dark green = multi-use trails (no motorized vehicles)

Light green = streets with bike lanes

Dashed green = other streets recommended for cyclists

    Embedding a Route

Routes can be embedded in various websites and blogs via an HTML snippet offered on the Route Summary of any created/recorded map. After selecting a route from the website My Routes& Coursesmenu an option to add it to another site will appear on the right-side of the route page.

Here is an example Route we can use to walk through embedding, feel free to access the page and use it as a test: Lunch Run

Next, select the option to add the route to a website and you will be given a variety of options for customizing what is displayed once the route is embedded. These options are shown below.

And then, simply drop the HTML snippet into your website's code. Refresh the page it is embedded in, kick back, and enjoy as all of your followers bask in your beautiful, informative routes.

    Embedding Routes Troubleshooting

Sometimes a few problems can prevent routes from populating your website, despite a correct code. This is almost always due to a privacy conflict. In order for a route to appear to non-MapMyFitness viewers, both the route and your profile privacy settings must be set to public. If an embedded route does not appear correctly on your site, it can be corrected by changing your privacy settings. Instructions on how to do so can be found . Make sure you change the specific route's privacy to public, as well as your "default profile sharing" setting.

As always, if you encounter a problem outside these tips, please let our support team know by submitting a support request.
