What do you like best about the leadership team?
Continues to be Excellent to work for.
What I like most is from day one, the leadership team is available to meet employees at orientation and available. I feel comfortable approaching any member of the leadership team. They are all approachable and respectful.
Our leadership team is very responsive and approachable. They have made great decisions to grow the business and ensure we are moving in the right direction. They listen and have made great changes over the past year based on employee feedback.
Excellent communicators and compassionate people who understand workforce needs and personal needs and they create balance for both.

What does the leadership team need to get better at?
They need to balance work loads for line staff and not promote people who don't have the experience to do the job well
Focusing on the employees, instead of charity in the community.
Respecting the employees. Often the Senior vice presidents treat the employees like drones or dismiss them out of hand.
What is the best part about your compensation package?
profit sharing made to the retirement plan that has in recent years been ~11% plus up to a 5% match for employee contributions - effectively a 21% lift to retirement savings

MEMIC offers four medical & three dental plans to meet the diverse needs of the organization. Also a $500 match to your HSA. In addition, MEMIC has a 5% dollar for dollar match with 401(k) plan and a Profit Sharing program that is top notch! Just added 4 wks of parental leave & a volunteer policy.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
salaries in field offices should be in line with the cost of living in that area
For the first time in my life I am under my husband's health benefits, because it cost about the same to add me and he gets money from the company put in his HSA account.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Trust and expertise are shared across the group
A diverse work team who remains committed to our customers and a work/life balance.
The best part of my team is that I know that I can count on them. They are very helpful whenever I need assistance. When it comes to covering for each other for days off, it is seamless.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
my team was great but seeing the light go out of their eyes when they are treated with disrespect and over worked is difficult
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
Friendships are built given the longevity of most employees
The environment is Employee and customer focused.
Overall, the employees at MEMIC are friendly and helpful. I had no insurance experience coming to MEMIC. I feel I can go to others both in and outside of my department for help or questions.
Employees care about the community and want to give back. Manager and company continuously seeking feedback to improve.
I feel we all work for towards the same goal and respect each other and our positions. We are collaborative and believe in the company's mission. I enjoy working at MEMIC and with the best team!
What needs to change to make the company culture better?
leadership team is not qualified for their positions and take a threatening tone with direct reports
What did you like most about the interview process?
I thought the interview process was informative. Some questions were challenging, but gave me a good insight into what the position would entail. My recruiter was friendly and super helpful anytime I had questions!
Everyone that I spoke with on the phone and interviewed with in person was friendly. I enjoyed seeing the office space and meeting my managers. They asked challenging questions and I could tell that they want to hire great people.
The recruitment process was quick and the team was responsive. Communication was timely and very informative. It was a great introduction to how MEMIC operates.

lose the behavioral testing, make sure new hires are qualified and check backgrounds

The people and the mission. Our leadership has a strong vision and it is carried out throughout the entire organization. The culture is collaborative, supportive, positive, team focused and employees have a strong work ethic.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
too many inexperienced managers and technical staff. Claim counts for adjusters are too high so performance goals and customer service agreements can't possibly be reached
We went from not enough documentation and process to too much documentation and process, there has to be a happy medium in there somewhere.
The lack of respect and caring from some upper management has filtered down to my department. My manager tries but is also treated the same way.
