Executive Bio
Mr. Kurt D. DelBene has been Chief Digital Officer and Executive VP of Corporate Strategy, Core Services Engineering & Operations at Microsoft Corporation since July 7, 2017. Mr. DelBene served as an Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Operations at Microsoft Corporation until July 7, 2017 and served as its Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Planning since April 10, 2015. Mr. DelBene served as a Venture Partner at Madrona Venture Group since September 10, 2014 and served as its Partner. Mr. DelBene helped identify new investments and worked with Madrona portfolio companies on strategic and operational initiatives. He joined Madrona after serving as the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services, working to improve the federal government's online health insurance enrollment system, HealthCare.gov. In this role, he worked with government offices and contractors to improve the short term site performance as well as set a longer term vision and path for an expansive multi-year initiative. He previously served as the President of the Microsoft Office Division at Microsoft Corporation from September 2010 to July 10, 2013. Mr. DelBene served as Senior Vice President of Microsoft Business Division at Microsoft Corporation. He served as Corporate Vice President of Office Business Platform Group and Corporate Vice President, Office Server Group of Microsoft Office System of Microsoft Corp. Mr. DelBene served as Head, Office Business Platform group of Microsoft Corporation since June 2006. He joined Microsoft in 1992 and has served in several roles in Microsoft's product development teams for over two decades, leading large product and technical teams. After leaving Microsoft in 2013, he was appointed by President Obama to oversee the implementation of HeathCare.gov. In this role he worked with government offices and contractors to improve the short term site performance as well as set a longer term vision and path for an expansive multi-year initiative. Prior to his current role, Mr. DelBene served as Vice President, Authoring and Collaboration Services, responsible for the development of Office's document and Web page authoring and collaboration products. He also served as the general manager of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft's messaging and personal information management application. He has also served as Group Program Manager for Microsoft Exchange, responsible for the Microsoft Exchange client and Schedule+, and Group Manager in Microsoft's Systems Division, responsible for fax and embedded systems software. As a senior leader at Microsoft, Mr. DelBene was known for his ability to envision a broad product roadmap while engaging deeply in product design and details with development teams. During his career with the Microsoft Office Division, he drove multiple transformations of the Office product including the integration of communications and collaboration services and most recently, the product and business model shifts required to create and launch Office 365 as a cloud based service. Prior to joining Microsoft, he served as a management consultant with McKinsey and Company, focusing on business strategy for technology companies. He has also served as a software developer and systems engineer at & T Bell Laboratories, working in graphics and imaging software and network switching systems. Mr. DelBene is on the Board of Trustees for Reed College and on the board of Directors for Global Partnerships. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from University of Chicago, a Master's of Science from Stanford University and a BS of Industrial Engineering from University of Arizona.
