Very secure, but not air-tight secure. I've been at Microsoft well over 20 years. I've been through a layoff process once, and have seen the company execute large (front page news) layoffs as well as a bunch of little product groups get canned with little to no publicity. The best advice I was given was to work on products that are strategic to the company. The little side teams that exist as a pet project for some director are usually the first to go when the bottom line is questioned. I also happen to believe that the senior leadership will do a mass layoff whenever they feel the natural attrition rate isn't hitting some prescribed target.
not very secure at all. the 5% good attrition target is on everyone's mind
Security is not guaranteed anywhere and it is not guaranteed at Microsoft.
secure enough, doesn't matter, too many companies are hiring now.
Not at all.. RIFs happen all the time
Pretty secure.
