How employees describe working at MongoDB, Inc.
Fantastic culture and top-notch perks. Comp is generous and genuinely feel like executive leadership cares about the employees.
Our entire team was laid off, mind it 25 folks and the VP said that we had to "fight" for the 4 newly opened positions. Also they pay peanuts and constants criticise the work despite being a top performer of the team. The leadership is absolutely useless and very short sighted.
I love the leadership team's vision for the future.
Bonusly, Slack chats, team meetings, challenging / fun projects
Multiple stages and opportunities to ask questions

How flexible is your work schedule at MongoDB, Inc.?
Very flexible. Engineers have a lot of wiggle room on when to be available in the office. The teams are usually small so it's easy to arrange schedules that would overlap with your team mates.
Typically no problem to work from home one day a week, even for managers. Work hours are flexible, depending on meeting schedules.
How's the work life balance at MongoDB, Inc.?
It is easy to be completely "off" while taking vacation. Unlike my earlier job, I know I can just completely stop reading mail mark myself as unavailable for the days I'm away. Similarly, there is no pressure or expectation of availability outside office hours. To me, this is the most important aspect of being able separate life and work, and balance both.
The managers have a lot of trust in the engineers which encourages the engineers to be very honest about estimates and communicate candidly when more time is needed than the initial estimate ahead of time. Working extra hours is also not encouraged and majority of the engineers don't do it so there is no pressure to do so. It is not really required to be physically present in the office all the time so there is always the flexibility to work remotely and take care of personal errands (for example, sick kids/family, waiting for furniture to be delivered, etc)
How many women are in your team? is it diverse enough?
Top Employee Response
My team is comprised of 8 incredible people, who've taught me a whole bunch. Until recently we had one female engineer, but hired another early this year. There are also a number of queer coders on my team and an African American male engineer. However, my team is more of an outlier than the norm. Nevertheless, MongoDB works hard to foster a welcoming environment to all kinds of people; we're always striving to improve.
We have some women engineers, and a couple who don't identify themselves as one of the traditional binary genders across different levels of seniority. It is hard to answer "it's diverse enough" without defining what is enough, but we are definitely looking to hire more non-cis male engineers.
What's the work from home policy like at MongoDB, Inc.?

Top Employee Response
Smart people with different backgrounds, and it's not hard to find someone who is very knowledgable at something if I need some advice.
How do the current devs on the team act towards new developers that join?
It does depend on the team that one joins. Our team strives to hire an individual that will really add value to us, challenge us, and make us better people overall. My advice to you would be to really insist that you meet as much of the team as possible if you interview, so you can make up your own mind if you think they have an open and welcoming attitude
