Executive Bio

Mr. Scott A. Rust has been Senior Vice President of Global Research and Development at National Instruments Corporation since January 2014 and served as its Vice President of R&D - Penang and Vice President of Test Systems for R&D until January 2014. Mr. Rust is responsible for leading the NI R&D team's efforts to establish NI Penang as a major facility for the design and development of future NI products. Mr. Rust served as Vice President of Research & Development and Modular Instruments of National Instruments Corp. since September 26, 2008 until December 2012. He was responsible for the global development and strategic direction of NI measurement products including RF, digitizers, signal generators, digital multimeters, high-speed digital I/O, switching and power supplies. Mr. Rust joined NI in 1990 as an NI LabWindows???/CVI applications engineer and then moved to strategic marketing, where he became the long-term owner of instrument driver development and standardization. Mr. Rust joined the R&D leadership team in 1996, held the position of Director of R&D for Modular Instruments from 2004 to 2008. During his leadership tenure, he developed extensive experience working with partners and competitors in creating public specifications. He also chaired the Instrument Driver Technical Working Group as part of the VXIplug&play Systems Alliance and founded the IVI Foundation, an alliance formed to address the gap seen by military/aerospace and large commercial electronics test developers for interchangeable virtual instrument drivers. These initiatives have helped establish NI as a leader in instrument driver development and standardization. His groups have delivered some of the NI's largest synchronized launches including the 100 MS/s mixed-signal suite, PXI Express modular instruments suite and the recent 6.6 GHz RF vector signal analyzer and vector signal generator. Mr. Rust holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University.
