What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication means that you can only access your Ring account by providing another piece of information besides a password. The first time you try and access a Ring product on a new device (phone or PC), you will have to enter a second piece of information in addition to your password. This second piece of information is a randomly generated code that will be sent to your mobile phone. Enter the code and you will have access to your account. This means that in the future you will have more secure access your Ring products.
Why should I use two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication provides an extra layer of security that a single authentication system such as a password alone cannot provide. If someone were to gain access to your password, for example, they still would not be able to access your Ring account without your trusted phone to receive the randomly generated code.
Won't two-factor authentication make it inconvenient to access my devices or account?
Two-factor authentication will add an extra step to accessing devices. The extra step is worth it, however, for the added security it brings..
How long does it take to get the code on my mobile device?
You should receive your code in less than a minute. If you don't receive a code, make sure you are sending it to the correct number.
How do I access my account if I don't have access to my mobile device?
You will need to contact the Customer Support team.
Do Shared Users and Guest Users also have to use two-factor authentication?
No. Each account will have its own two-factor enable/disable setting. We recommend that Shared and Guest User accounts use two-factor authentication as well.
Click here to learn more about Shared and Guest Users.
What happens if I receive an authentication code that I didn't request?
If this happens there is a possibility that there's been an attempt to compromise your account. We recommend accessing your account and changing your password as soon as possible.
Click here for information on changing your account password.

Your emergency contacts should be able to:
Answer their phone and handle Alarm emergencies.

Go to your home if assistance is needed.
Unlock your home to give emergency responders access to your home if necessary.
Use your Ring Alarm and disarm it, if asked by authorities.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that your emergency contacts remember the verbal password. Forgetting the verbal password will increase your chances of a false alarm.

View ArticleA permit application is a paper or online form used to register an alarm system or apply for an alarm permit.
In many neighborhoods and cities across the US and Canada, neighbors with professional monitoring are required to register their Ring Alarm with the local municipal office. This registration is sometimes called a permit, and each local office will have its own application process.
Understanding your local permit laws
Every jurisdiction has different laws and rules for owning and operating a residential or commercial alarm system. To ensure that residents and businesses are able to comply with these laws, municipalities publish these laws online on a government or police department website.
As the alarm owner, its your responsibility to know your local alarm laws.
If you live in the US or Canada (excluding Quebec) and have signed up for professional monitoring with Ring Alarm, we will send you an email with a link to your local alarm ordinances if a permit or registration is needed.
If you have not yet signed up for professional monitoring, you can do an internet search and find your local laws. You can also call your local government offices for more information.
Note: If youdon'tget a permit, you may end up paying expensive fees or fines for having an unregistered alarm. In some locations, authorities will not dispatch emergency responders to your address without a permit.
Getting the permit application
In order to get a permit for your Ring Alarm, youll need to fill out an application. This will usually be either an online form on a website that you fill out and submit, or it may be a PDF file that you download, print, fill out, and mail into the office. In some instances, you may need to call a local municipal office and ask them to send you a form in the mail.
In some instances, local jurisdictions require that Ring Alarm requests the form and fills out the form on your behalf. In these instances, we will take care of the application for you, and update you throughout the process.
Filling out the permit application
Your alarm permit or registration form will ask for specific pieces of information. These forms will almost always ask for the property owners name and address, but each form is unique.
If Ring is filling out the application on your behalf, we will use the information you provided us with during account setup for permit form. If we need additional information, we will reach out to you and ask for it.
Your alarm system registration or permit form may ask for the following pieces of information:
Your name
Your phone number
Your address
The names and phone numbers of your emergency contacts
Information about the Alarm Company/Provider
Ring Protect Inc., 1523 26th St., Santa Monica, CA, 90404 (800) 656-1918
Ring License number, which can be found at Ring.com/licenses

Permit fees
Your town, city, county, or other jurisdiction may charge a permit fee. Alarm registration or permit fees vary in amount and frequency. In some areas, the fee is only charged once, while in other areas, it may be assessed every year when you renew the permit. You should be able to find the specific fee requirements for your area on the on the permit form or listed within your local alarm permit ordinances.
Submitting the application
If you are obtaining your own permit, you can follow the directions on the permit form or website and submit the permit form with any permit fees, if required. In a few locations, you may be required to submit the form at a local municipal office, in person.
If Ring is obtaining the permit on your behalf, we may need your signature on the form. Ring will mail the completed permit form to you with a stamped envelope so you can return the signed form to us. Please follow the directions, sign the permit application, and mail it back to us right away.
Getting the permit
Every jurisdiction handles permit processing differently.
You may get a physical alarm permit in the mail.
You may get an email confirming that your permit has been processed and is on file.
You may not receive anything.
If you receive a confirmation of a permit, and it contains a permit number and an expiration date, you will need to add it to your Ring account. Simply open your Ring app, go to Monitoring Settings, and add your permit information. If you do not receive a confirmation or a permit number, you can leave these fields blank on your Ring account.
(Sometimes the monitoring center needs to provide this in order to dispatch local authorities.)
A few more things to note
If you move, you may need to reapply for a permit in your new local area.
If you obtained a business alarm permit previously for a different alarm system, please email the permit team and let us know to avoid duplication.
Fire monitoring permits
If you add a smoke or CO monitoring device to your residential Ring Alarm, you may also need to get a fire monitoring permit depending on where you live. (Note: In some jurisdictions, there may be one permit application for both alarm and smoke/CO monitoring.)
Keep an eye out for an email from Ring with details, and the application process is similar to an alarm.
Ring Alarm can not be used to provide professional smoke/CO monitoring at commercial locations. To learn more, click here.

View ArticleWhile batteries inRing devicescan go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. This article will detail some of the factors that may cause your battery to require more frequent recharges.
The Local Weather
At temperatures below 40F, lithium polymer batteries are less effective at holding a charge.Since Ring Doorbell, Ring Stick Up Cam, and Spotlight Cam Battery use lithium polymer batteries, when the temperature drops below 40F, it may be necessary to charge your Ring product more often.
Battery performance will return to normal once the weather warms up and remains above freezing.
Click here for more information on battery life and cold weather.
Lots of Activity
The more events captured by your Ring Doorbell, Ring Stick Up Cam, and Spotlight Cam Battery, the more your battery is used to power the live HD Video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers.
If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner.
In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the Live View to look or speak through your camera.
To prevent excessive activity, you can adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, change Smart Alerts to Standard or Light, or adjust the directionof your Ring product.
Click here to learn more about utilizing motion zones in your Ring device.
Hardwiring your Ring Device
One option available to Ring users is to connect your Ring Doorbell to a low voltage transformer and doorbell kit. This should eliminate the need to charge your battery.
If you do not have a doorbell kit connected, you can still use a low voltage transformer between 8-24 volts AC and a resistor. Click for more information on using Ring with a Low Voltage Transformer without a doorbell.
View ArticleThis article will help you understand your RSSI reading and Wi-Fi interference and what you can do to improve Wi-Fi strength.
What is RSSI?
If you've received a message from your Ring App indicating that your Wi-Fi has a poor RSSI signal, you may find yourself wondering what "RSSI" is and how you go about improving it.
RSSI stands for Received Signal Strength Indicator. The problem with understanding RSSI strength is the fact that RSSI is not a "real" number. Rather it is a relative number that measures how strong a signal is when it's received by a device and it's heavily influenced by many factors. To better understand what RSSI is, consider the following:
To be clearly understood, the average voice must produce approximately 60 decibels of sound. All things being equal, that 60 decibels should be enough to let a friend speaking at volume to get their message across. Unfortunately, things aren't always equal. Suppose you're at a rock concert and your friend is three feet away from you on the other side of a column while other people are shouting along with the band. In such a case, the 60 decibels being produced by ordinary voice isn't going to be enough to get a message across.
How do you handle this? By manipulating your environment to get a clearer signal. A few things that can be done in this case include:
Your friend raising their voice.
Moving your body so the column is no longer between you and your friend.
Your friend moving their mouth closer to your ear.
Covering your other ear to cut down on the noise.
Getting a wireless signal from the transmitter to the receiver can be like trying to talk to a friend at a rock concert. A variety of environmental factors may keep you from getting to clarity. The RSSI measurement is all of the factors that are hurting your signal at the receiving point. While RSSI is measured on a scale of 0 to -99, there won't ever just be one cause that is the culprit for a low RSSI rating. You'll have to be a bit of a detective, tracing the Wi-Fi paths in your house and experimenting with possible sources of interference. This will also help you when placing a Ring Chime Pro or other extenders.
Causes of Poor Wi-Fi Signal Strength
There are three main factors that can weaken your Wi-Fi quality:
Physical Obstructions: Certain materials can reduce the range of Wi-Fi signals (or even block them). Here are some examples of things that can interfere with your Ring devices signal strength:
Heavy-duty walls and floors made of materials like concrete, brick, or metal.
Household objects such as fish tanks, bookcases and mirrors.
Windows made of Low-E glass also cause interference.
While other materials like wood and glass don't have as much effect, the more walls and floors between your router and your Ring products, the more interference you're likely to see.
Competing Wi-Fi networks: If you live in a densely crowded area such as a big city or apartment building, there can be dozens of Wi-Fi networks around you which can cause interference and lower the quality of your network. If you open the wireless options on your mobile device or computer and see a long list of networks, you may be experiencing this type of interference.
Other electronics: This is a difficult kind of interference to detect, as it can come from almost anythingeven from appliances such as microwave ovens and baby monitors that aren't connected to your Wi-Fi network. The biggest source of electronic interference though, are those appliances that use the same Wi-Fi network as your Ring device to perform their basic functions. These include cellular phones, iPads, other smart home devices, TVs, and video game consoles.
Symptoms of poor Wi-Fi signal strength
Ring Doorbells and Security Cameras
The devices may fall Offline and have trouble connecting back to the Internet.
Video quality may be reduced or distorted.
Audio quality may be reduced or distorted.
Notifications from the Ring device may be delayed.
The Ring device may miss Motion events completely.
Live View may have trouble connecting.
Ring Chime Pro
If your Chime Pro has a poor Wi-Fi connection, devices connected to its network may see the symptoms above, even if their connections to Chime Pro are strong.
The Chime Pro may fall offline and have trouble connecting back to the Internet.
Wi-Fi troubleshooting tips
Here are some quick tips that may help you get a stronger Wi-Fi signal for your Ring device:
Most routers are automatically set to switch channels to the least crowded. If your router doesn't have this enabled, log in and turn it on (check your routers documentation if you are unsure how to do this).
If you can, move your wireless router closer to your Ring devices.
Otherwise, if possible, try and move your Ring device closer to your router.
If you can not do either of these things, try lifting the router up a foot or two and making sure it is in an open space.
Unplug other electronics that may be interfering with your connection.
Install a Wi-Fi range extender or second access point.
If you're getting interference from walls and floors:
Note: In some cases, using a Wi-Fi extender to take a longer route around an obstruction may be better than just using the Wi-Fi extender for a stronger signal to punch through the obstruction.
If your Wi-Fi router has an adjustable antenna, try pointing it in various directions.
Try tracing the path that your Wi-Fi signal takes from your router to your Ring device. If there are any items made of metal (such as a TV) or filled with water (such as an aquarium), move them out of the way.
If you can move your Ring device to a new location, do so. Even a few feet can make a big difference, or lifting it higher a foot or two.
Add a Wi-Fi extender such as the Chime Pro to your network. Extenders rebroadcast your Wi-Fi signal from a new location.
Some larger homes with thick walls and floors may benefit from using a wired access point via ethernet.
Try using a Powerline Extender to bring a wired access point near your Ring device. A Powerline Extenders are devices that plug into your regular electrical outlets and transmit data along your electrical cables.
If you're getting interference from competing Wi-Fi networks:
Many modern routers have utilities that allow them to scan for the least crowded channel to broadcast on. Check your router's documentation to find out how to enable this feature on your router.
If you've tried channel switching and are still getting slow Internet speeds, try setting the channel manually and use the "Test Your Wi-Fi" tool on the device health page of the Ring App to test your Wi-Fi speed and find the fastest one.
Consider upgrading to a new router, especially if yours is more than a few years old.
If you're getting interference from other electronics:
Try turning off or unplugging some of your electronics.
Some electronic devices such as PCs, TVs, and video game consoles can be wired directly into your router using Ethernet. Attaching these devices to a wired connection will free up bandwidth on the Wi-Fi.
Try moving other electronic devices. Even a few feet can make a big difference.
Most Ring devices are designed to function with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal for the best range. Other devices can operate using a 5GHz signal. Try switching any devices that can manage it over to the 5GHz signal.
View ArticleOnceyou'veset up your Ring Alarm at your place of business, you will need to develop good security habits to get the most out of your system. This article explores how to use your Ring Alarm to meet your business unique security needs.
Arming & Disarming your Ring Alarm
Arm and Disarm using the Keypad - Enter your personal access code, and then press the Disarmed, Away, or Home Mode button.
Arm and Disarm using the app - Open the app and tap the Mode of your choice.
By giving each employee their own unique code, you can see who has armed and disarmed your Ring Alarm within the app history and in alerts (if toggled on).
You can also choose to have one code for all employees if you prefer, but you will not be able to identify who is arming and disarming.
You may want to allow some employees to use the Ring app, while others should only use the Keypad. Click here to read more about user types and Ring Alarm access.
Have each new employee practice arming and disarming to reduce false alarms. If you have an employee who is learning and may trigger the alarm, switch your account to self-monitored temporarily, allow the employee to practice arming and disarming, and when they can use the Keypad correctly, you can switch back to professional monitoring.
If you have a cleaning crew, get deliveries regularly, or have off-hours support staff, make sure they can disarm and arm your Ring Alarm.
Understanding Modes
Your Ring Alarm can be in Home Mode, Away Mode, and Disarmed Mode. Understanding when to use these Modes will help you secure your workplace and prevent false alarms.
Disarmed Mode - Disarm your Ring Alarm when your business is open and customers may be coming and going. Youll also need to leave your Ring Alarm in Disarmed Mode if you have contractors making repairs, deliveries are being made, and other times when you need to open and close doors and windows.
Away Mode - Use this mode when your business is closed and there is no one inside. Most businesses use this mode during their off-hours when the business is closed when no one should be inside.
Home Mode - This mode is designed to be used when youre working late and want to feel secure inside your business. Arming your Ring Alarm in Home Mode will arm only the Contact Sensors around the perimeter of your business while ignoring Motion Detectors and any Contact Sensors inside. When youre ready to leave, don'tforget to disarm your Ring Alarm first, then open the door. You can arm again in Away Mode to protect your property when no one is around.

View ArticleNeighbors who subscribe to a Ring Protect Plus or Basic plan will have the power to refine their notifications to only those triggered by a person. People Only Mode is a more refined Motion Alert notification setting available in your Ring App. This article will give you all the information you need to understand People Only Mode.
What is "People Only Mode?"
People Only Mode is a special setting in your notifications that will set your Ring app to only alert you to motions detected by your Ring device that have been caused by people. While all valid motion events will still be recorded by your Ring device, People Only Mode can reduce the number of notifications you receive to only those caused by human beings.
Note: There are some functionality differences in People Only Mode depending on your device:
Battery powered devices:If you turn on People Only Modeyour device will record all events, but usuallyonly send you a notification when a human being is detected
Hardwired devices: Ifyou toggle the People Only Mode on, your device will only record and alert you to human being related events.
Note:Occasionally when in People Only Mode, light reflection, as from an outside window, can activate motion detection. If you're getting a lot of unwanted notifications look for reflective surfaces that may be shining light onto your device. Alternatively, you can turn off the People Only Mode setting.
Does everyone have access to People Only Mode?
No. People Only Mode is only accessible to those neighbors who have signed up for a Ring Protect Plus or Ring Protect Basic Plan or those who setup one of the following Ring wired devices prior to September 30, 2019:

1.Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit. Please read all of the following instructions before you begin the installation.
This is an advanced DIY project. We recommend that you consult a professional before installing the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
Professional alarm installers and licensed electricians are experienced with wiring projects, are familiar with using tools such as multimeters to test electrical wiring, and can read and interpret electrical schematics. We advise you not to install this yourself if you are inexperienced in any of these areas.
If you are using hardwired smoke, CO, or heat detectors or other life safety devices, we strongly recommend that you get a licensed professional to do any work on your wired alarm panel. Disconnecting power will result in the deactivation of your hardwired life safety devices. Do not attempt to install the Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit yourself.
Note: These instructions are for informational purposes only.
Working with electricity can be dangerous unless proper safety precautions are taken. If you are not comfortable or are inexperienced with the processes and tools described in these instructions, we recommend that you hire a licensed electrician or professional alarm installer.
You are responsible for ensuring that you do not have any existing contractual obligations regarding your existing alarm system. You are also responsible for any changes or damage to your existing alarm system.
This device is designed to operate in a particular region and is not intended to be used or distributed outside of that region.
2.Before you begin
We suggest that before you begin installing the Retrofit Alarm Kit, you take a few moments to review these alarm panel basics and indentify the layout of your own wired alarm panel.
Click here to explore the anatomy of a wired alarm panel and understand supported sensor types.
Click here to learn about the technical specifications of compatible zones.
You should also know the following:
Ring Alarm Required. You need to have a Ring Alarm Base Station set up at your location before you begin to add the Retrofit Alarm Kit and connect it to your wired contact sensor zones. If you purchased your Retrofit Alarm Kit as a bundle, first set up the Ring Alarm Base Station before starting this installation.
Note: Your Ring Alarm Base Station will need to be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or ethernet, and cannot be on cellular backup during the Retrofit Alarm Kit installation.
Compatibility. To see if the Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit will work with the contact sensor zones wired to your alarm panel, youll need to verify the resistance on your zones. Check your alarm panel and documentation to confirm compatibility.
The Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit design supports a maximum resistance of up to 5200 ohms under all conditions of temperature, battery, etc, with or without end of line resistors. This is intended to tolerate 4.7K, 1K or 2K end of line resistors commonly found in wired systems.
Add Up to 8 Zones at a Time. You can wire up to 8 zones with one Retrofit Alarm Kit. If you have more than 8 zones, you can add additional Retrofit Alarm Kit devices to the same Ring Alarm.
Document Everything. If you need assistance from Ring Support, having documentation in the form of photographs and notes will help them identify any issues faster and help you resolve them.
Download and print our Zone Wiring Cheat Sheet here.
The Retrofit Alarm Kit is designed for residential use. It is not designed to work with large commercial security systems.
3.Tools and supplies you may need for installation
Required supplies:
Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit, with the included #1 Phillips head screwdriver
A screwdriver that fits your existing wired alarm panel terminals
A continuity tester or multimeter
Additional supplies you may need:
A wire stripping tool
Extra 20 or 22 gauge wire
Twist on wire nuts or wire connectors
Cleaning cloth or alcohol to clean the wall before using the included mounting tape
If you prefer to mount this device using screws, two screws and anchors to mount the Retrofit Alarm Kit on the wall near your wired alarm panel, plus a drill bit
Masking tape and a pen, or some other method to label the wires
If you plan to wire your Retrofit Alarm Kit through a hole in the metal alarm box, make sure there is a rubber grommet around the hole to protect the wires from damage. If it is missing, we recommend getting a replacement rubber grommet from your local home improvement store.
4. Preparing for installation
Locate your wired alarm panel inside your home, and familiarize yourself with the components. It may be in a basement or inside a closet.
1. Open your wired alarm panel. If its locked, the key is often located right on top of the panel box or somewhere nearby.
Download the Retrofit Alarm Kit print manual>>
2. Take photos to document your current setup:
The open alarm panel
Wiring diagrams or schematics
Anything else you can find about your alarm system
3. Look for any written labels, lists of zones, or descriptions to help you map the zones to specific sensors. Check inside the cover of the alarm panel, or inside the cover of the wired alarm keypad. If you find information, take a photo of it. Use our Zone Wiring Cheat Sheet to make this easier.
4. Label the wires for each zone using labels or masking tape to keep track of them during the wiring process.
5. Visually inspect the wiring and make sure that none of it appears to be damaged or cut. Check for corrosion, frayed wiring, visible cracks in the casing, and any damage to the alarm panel itself. If you find signs of damage or wear, the zones may not work with the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
6. Identify other important parts of the alarm panel, including the transformer or power supply and the backup battery. When you are ready to begin wiring the Retrofit Alarm Kit, youll need to make sureyou'veproperly disconnected power to the alarm panel.
.
7. Think about where you want to set up the Retrofit Alarm Kit. Make sure there is space on the wall nearby. It cannot be mounted inside the wired alarm panel box as this could block communication signals to the Ring Alarm.
8. Make sure your wired alarm system is not actively professionally monitored. If your existing wired alarm system is actively monitoring your home, call the monitoring center and ask them to put your system in Test Mode. If you skip this step, you may set off your Alarm during the Retrofit Alarm Kit setup process.
5.Setup instructions
To add the Retrofit Alarm Kit to the Ring app, youll need to have a Ring account with a Ring Alarm system set up at your location first. Once this is complete, you can set up and use the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
Add the Retrofit Alarm Kit to the Ring app:
1. Open the Ring app.
2. Tap the Menu (three lines in the upper left corner), and select Set Up a Device.
3. Tap Security Devices.
4. Tap Retrofit Alarm Kit.
5. Tap Retrofit Alarm Kit again.
6. Tap Ready.
7. The Ring app will take you step-by-step through the process of adding the device.
First, open the front cover. The app will prompt you to scan the QR code on the cover or on the card located inside the box.
Next, pull the battery tab to power on the Retrofit Alarm Kit. It will power on and begin to communicate with your Ring Alarm.
The Ring app will prompt you to configure the device. You can give it a name and add it to a room.
8. Move the Retrofit Alarm Kit to the place where it will be installed near the wired alarm panel. This may be in a basement or closet. Do not mount it on the wall yet.
9. Run the communication test in the app to ensure that the Retrofit Alarm Kit can send a signal to the Ring Alarm Base Station.
-- If you see the light flash green, it passed the test.
-- If you see the light flash red, the test failed.
-- If the communication test fails, you should repeat the test. If it continues to fail, you can add a Range Extender between the Retrofit Alarm Kit and the Base Station in order to strengthen the Z-Wave signal. You can also try moving your Ring Alarm Base Station closer to the alarm panel.
If you are having difficulty passing this communication test, tap here for troubleshooting help.
10. When the communication test passes, the Ring app will show all zones as Available or Ready to Test, and you are ready to move on.
6.Connecting wires to your Retrofit Alarm Kit
1. Disconnect the power to your alarm panel.
Unplug the AC power supply. The transformer may have a safety screw that will need to be unscrewed before you can unplug it.
Disconnect the battery backup for safety. Remove both the red and black wires from the battery terminals.
If youcan'tunplug the AC power, we recommend that you switch off the breaker at the fuse box. After you successfully disconnect the power to the alarm panel, you can turn the breaker back on to provide lighting while you work.
2. Choose where to mount the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
The Retrofit Alarm Kit should be mounted near the wired alarm panel box, but not inside it. We recommend mounting it on the wall next to the wired alarm panel. Do not mount near combustible or flammable surfaces.
3. Mount the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
We suggest that you use the included double-sided tape located on the back of the Retrofit Alarm Kit. You can also use screws and anchors (not included) for the type of wall youll be mounting it to.
4. Test your wired zones.
Checking the integrity of your wired contact sensor zones will ensure that the zones can be connected to the Retrofit Alarm Kit. Wired contact sensor zones must create a complete closed loop in order to work properly with Retrofit Alarm Kit.
Before you begin this step, check that all doors and windows are closed. To test your contact sensor zone using a continuity tester or multimeter:
A. Identify which zones are contact sensor zones using the alarm diagram.
B. Remove one contact zone (2 wires) from your wired alarm panel.
C. Turn on your multimeter and set it to measure resistance.
D. Wrap one end of the exposed zone wire around one of the testing probes.
E. Wrap the other zone wire around the other probe. (Be careful not to touch the probes.)
--If the zone test is successful, the multimeter will show a number. This number will vary based on your system. If the number is between 0 and 5200 ohms, congrats! This zone can be successfully wired to the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
If the number is larger than 5200 ohms, the resistance is too great to work with the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
--If the test fails, the zone test will show the letters OL or Open Loop. This means that the zone is open. Check that all doors and windows in your home are closed. If everything is closed, there is no visible damage to the wiring or sensors, and the tester still reads OL, then there is an issue within that zone that needs to be diagnosed and repaired. If not repaired, this zonecan'tbe added to the Retrofit Alarm Kit.
If any of your zones fail the integrity test, we recommend that you hire a professional alarm installer to repair the zone. Failures can be difficult to diagnose and may have a variety of causes, including:
-- The contact sensor hardware has been damaged.
-- The wire is no longer connected to the sensor.
-- The wiring inside the wall is broken or disconnected.
The Retrofit Alarm Kit will not work with wired zones that fail an integrity test. If you cannot repair the wiring for a zone, wireless Ring Alarm Contact Sensors can be used to secure the doors and windows in that zone instead.
5. Next, make sure the wires are long enough.
If your wired alarm zones have short wires, youll need to lengthen the wires to reach the Retrofit Alarm Kit using extra lengths of wire and the wire nuts/connectors.
6. Keep the zones closed.
Make sure all doors and windows within the wired zones are closed before you start rewiring them.
7. Begin wiring the zones, one at a time.
A. Choose an app zone for the zone wires. For each 2-wire zone, youll place one wire alone in a numbered terminal and one Common terminal labeled C on the Retrofit Alarm Kit. Each Terminal C can have up to two wires in it.
Use this chart and illustration below to match the zone with the correct terminals. Each Terminal C may have multiple wires.
B. Add the wires to the Retrofit Alarm Kit. Tighten the screw within each terminal (using the included screwdriver) just enough so that the wiresdon'tfall out.
C. Ifyou'vecompleted steps 1 and 2 correctly, check your Ring app. Zone 1 within the Ring app should now say Ready to Test.
Note: If your zone still says Available, you may need to open and close a door or window to wake it up.
D. Tap the zone to begin the Zone Setup Test.
Complete the test by opening and closing a door or window within that zone. Take your smartphone and open the Ring app with you so you can watch the test complete successfully while you open and close the door.
Note: Sometimes zones are incorrectly labeled. If the Zone Setup Test does not successfully complete, follow the directions in the next step.
If your zones are not labeled or mislabeled, you will need to identify them using trial and error. Look at the Ring app while you open and close each door and window around your property to identify which contact sensors are within the zone.
Make a note of which doors and windows trigger that zone so you can understand how your alarm zones are wired together.
8. When you have successfully completed the Zone Setup Test, you can configure the zone settings using the Ring app.
A. Choose a name for the zone.
B. Assign the zone to a room or area so you can remember where the zone is located.
C. Configure the Placement settings within the Ring app.
-- If a zone includes a door you use to enter and exit from frequently, select Main Door. The Main Door option allows you to customize Entry and Exit Delays.
-- If you have wired contact sensors on interior doors, you can choose Secondary Door.
-- If the zone is made up of only windows or doors that are never used, select Window.
Note: If your zone includes both doors and windows, we recommend that you choose Main Dooras the placement option to help reduce false alarms.
9. Repeat these steps until all zones have been added to your Retrofit Alarm Kit.
After you finish configuring the zone, you can either continue to set up your next zone, or you can tapI'm Done.
10. When youre finished, slide the cover back on the Retrofit Alarm Kit.

General Questions
How do Ring products work?
Ring products are based on a simple principle -- use your existing home Wi-Fi network to create a ring of security around your home. By hooking up to your Wi-Fi, Ring products use the free Ring app (available for Apple and Android devices) to alert you whenever someone approaches your door or comes in a range of a security camera. You can then view an HD video stream of the person and speak to them using two-way audio communication. The free Ring app also allows you to control all the other functions of your Ring devices such as floodlights and sirens and video recording. Put simply, with Ring products, you're always home.

How long can my Ring device run on its internal battery?
Assuming that the Ring device has a battery, (not all do, some need to be connected to external power), it should last for six to 12 months depending on the level of use and the operating environment.
View ArticleIf you don't have an existing doorbell, it's possible to connect a Ring Doorbell 2 directly to a low voltage 8-24V AC transformer (40V maximum) at 50/60Hz.
Note: Some important facts for people planning on using thisoptional alternate configuration for their Ring Video Doorbell 2.
The Ring Video Doorbell 2 can only be connected to an AC transformer. DC is notsupported.
Connecting the Ring Video Doorbell 2 to an AC transformer requires some knowledge of wiring and soldering. If you are uncomfortable reading wiring diagrams, hooking up wires or soldering them in place, consult a licensedelectrician for assistance or use the built-in rechargeable battery to power your Video Doorbell.
Wires should be soldered onto the resistor and a wire clip can be used on the other end.
In addition to the equipment included in your Ring Video Doorbell box, You will need to purchase an electronic resistor. A resistor is REQUIREDin place of a mechanical or electronic doorbell kit for this alternate configuration to work successfully.
Do not use halogen or garden-lighting transformer.
Do NOTinstall adiode.

View ArticleYour Ring Video Doorbell Pro is designed to draw power from the same 16-volt AC power transformer as your internal doorbell mechanism. Problems can arise, however, when a doorbell mechanism draws so much power that there's not enough left over to power your Ring Video Doorbell Pro. This article will help you diagnose power problems and offer a solution for it as well:
If you Ring Video Doorbell Pro has insufficientpower, you may find that you're experiencing some of the following issues:
Regularly losing connection to your Wi-Fi network
Freezing up or shutting down during the ringtone sound after a button press.
Voltage reading under Device Health steadily drops during the evening with night vision on.
Regularly shutting off (the white light on the front will turnoff)
Freezing up during a live event
Not ringing your existing internal doorbell correctly
Night vision doesn't work
Ring Pro works fine for a couple of events and thenstops working
If this is happening and you suspect that you're having a power issue, follow these instructions:
Open the Ring app and tap your Ring Doorbell to open its settings screen.
Tap the "Device Health" tile.
Take a look at the voltage reading. If it reads "Good" or "Very Good" then your Ring doorbell is receiving sufficient power and you'll have to find another cause for your issue. If the voltage reads as "Poor" or "Very Poor," then it's likely that low power is the cause of your issue.
Resolving your Power Issue
The most common fix for power issues is bypassing your doorbell with a Pro Power Kit V2. If you do not have a Pro Power Kit V2 click here for phone numbers to contact our Community Support Team.
If the bypass methoddoesn't solveyour power problems or you don't want tobypass your doorbell mechanism, consider upgrading your transformer. When purchasing a transformer, we recommend choosing one with at least 16 volts AC and at least 30 volt-amps (40 VA max) and 50/60Hz. Do not use a halogen or garden-lighting transformer or a DC transformer/power supply.
Click here for installation instructions for a new transformer.
Click here for help bypassingyour internal doorbell with the Pro Power Kit V2
Finally, if you don't have an internal doorbell mechanism or your existing system is unusable, you solve power problems with the use of a Plug-in Adapter.

View ArticleThe video timeline is a tool designed to let you easily access all of the events recorded by the cameras you own or are shared on. Simply scrolling back and forth through timeline events can give you a better sense of what's happening in front of your cameras and provide vital information to strengthen your ring of security. This article will answer frequently asked questions concerning the timeline tool in the Ring app.
What is the video timeline tool?
The video timeline is a tool that's been added to the app's Live Feed page. In addition to offering you a current live view of what's in front of your camera, you can use the video timeline tool to swipe left and right and quickly navigate through time and view Ring events that have taken place earlier. This allows you to not only know what's happening in front of your cameras at present but also to get a sense of what's happening over time.
How does the video timeline work?
The video timeline works by placing graphic icons - "pills" - on a timeline that lets you know when events have happened within range of your cameras. By swiping left and right on your timeline you can navigate to a specific time and see what the camera was seeing at that point. You can also tap on the event pills and watch the entire recorded event in real time.
Why are the pills in different colors?
The different colors allow you to quickly determine what type of event you're looking at.
The different event types include:
Live views
Captured motion events
Answered rings (doorbells only)
Missed rings (doorbells only)
People events
Linked device events
Can I manage and access live views from the timeline?
Yes. Any functions you could control from the previous version of the live view screen remain accessible in the timeline screen. This includes the ability to turn the microphone and speaker on and off, using the siren (for devices that have one), as well as speaking to people through your Ring during a live feed.
Can I turn off the timeline?
No.The timeline feature gives you a quick and easy way to see all events and their associated recordings in one place. It is a crucial part of many features such as Snapshot Capture. If you'd like to go straight to the event history, you can tap the history tile on the dashboard.
Click here for more information on the Snapshot Capture feature.

View ArticleConnecting Ring devices to the Echo is a simple process. To accomplish this, youll need to add Ring as a skill in your Alexa app. As a result, youll be able to direct your Ring device(s) with voice commands, as well as watch live videos from them if you have an Echo Show or Echo Spot.
Before starting, you'll need to download Amazon's Alexa app, if you haven't already done so.
Open Alexa. In the upper lefthand corner, you'll see three horizontal bars. Tap them.
In the menu that appears, tap Skills & Games.
On the next screen, search for Ring in the search box.
After you've found Ring, tap the "enable" button.
Next, Alexa will ask you to sign in to your Ring account. Doing so will link your Ring account to your Alexa account.
After signing in, you'll be asked to discover devices. Tap the Discover Devices button. All of your Ring devices should appear and be connected to Alexa automatically. If you don't want Alexa to integrate with a particular Ring device, simply tap Forget on the right side.
If none of your Ring devices appear automatically, you can either:
Ask, "Alexa, discover my devices,"
Tap Devices.
All of your Ring devices should appear and connect automatically to Alexa with either method.
Using Alexa With Ring Devices
The Ring Skill connects any Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera to your Echo Show, Echo Spot, Echo speakers, FireTVs or FireTablets.. If you have a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, Video Doorbell Elite, Video Doorbell 2 or Floodlight Cam, Alexa can start a new video or join an existing one. By saying Alexa, show my front door, youll instantly get a live video feed of activity at your home on an Echo Show. To stop viewing the feed, simply say Alexa, hide my front door. Note that front door is used here as an example, and this should be replaced with whatever name you used to label your Ring device (e.g. backyard, side door, garage, etc.).
If you have a Ring Video Doorbell or Stick Up Cam, Live View functionality on the Echo Showisn'tfully supported. For example, if someone has just arrived at your front door, and you say, Alexa, show the front door camera, your Echo Show will not work.
Here are a few more things you can say to see or hide the Live View:
"Alexa, show [Ring Device Name]"
"Alexa, hide [Ring Device Name]"
"Alexa, stop"
"Alexa, Go Home"
Connection Timing Out or Not Connecting
If you experience long connecting times, then using a Ring Chime Pro will help extend your Wi-Fi signal.
Time Needed to Wake Up
In some cases, your Ring device will need a little extra time to wake up. If your battery is low, it may take 30 seconds or more to connect to your Ring.

View ArticleWhat are video requests?
The video request tool allows Ring users to easily share video recordings with law enforcement if they choose to help local law enforcement with active investigations. Local law enforcement are able to ask for assistance from their community in an investigation by making a video request through Ring. When they do so, Ring users retain absolute control to determine whether they may have potentially relevant videos, whether or not they elect to share any videos, or opt out of future requests. Ring gives local law enforcement no visibility into those determinations.
Why did I receive a video request?
Receiving a video request suggests your Ring device may have captured video recordings during a specific timeframe that might be relevant to law enforcements investigation. Ring has not shared any information about you, or any video recordings that you may have, with law enforcement upon receipt of a video request (including whether you received a request). Law enforcement are never given access to your Ring device. Through the Ring and Neighbors app, none of your information is shared with law enforcement without your consent. These requests will come from [email protected] and include a link to this article or will appear in your Ring app. These details will help you identify an authentic video request. Note that if you respond to a video request email, a Ring Team Member will reply back.
What are the sharing options?
Sharing your video recordings is completely voluntary and you can choose which ones you want to share, if any. Youll have 4 options:
Review and Share
Allows you to review all the recordings that fall within the timeframe and day specified in the request. Youll have the option to select specific video recordings that you explicitly want to share.
Share Videos without Reviewing
Click this button to voluntarily share all recordings that fall within the timeframe and day specified in the request without reviewing the recordings first.
Take No Action
If you do not wish to share your videos, no further action is necessary and Ring will not share any of your information with law enforcement, including whether or not you received this request.
Unsubscribe from future requests to share video recordings
If you do not wish to receive requests like these in the future, you can unsubscribe.
If I share a video with law enforcement in response to a video request, what will they do with it?
Ring will provide law enforcement access to a copy of the video(s) you chose to share for thirty days, during which time, law enforcement may view and download the video(s). If law enforcement downloads a copy of your video, neither you nor Ring will have control over that copy of the video.
If I share my video recordings, what information will law enforcement receive?
Through video request, none of your personal information is shared with law enforcement unless you choose to share your recordings. Should you choose to share your recordings, the recordings you chose to share, your street address (the address associated with your Ring device), and the email address associated with your account will be shared with the law enforcement officer who requested the recordings. Your local law enforcement agency may use the provided personal information to reach out to you about a case.
How does Ring protect my user privacy?
Upon receiving a video request, none of your personal information has been shared with law enforcement. Law enforcement will not have access to:
Your device
Your identity
Your location
That you received the request
How many Ring users, if any, received the request
How many video recordings match the request
Location of your or anyone elses Ring devices
If you do not take any action on the request, Ring will not notify law enforcement or provide law enforcement with your identity.
How can I opt out of receiving video requests?
You can click the unsubscribe link in the email or the Settings page in the Ring app to unsubscribe from receiving future requests Once unsubscribed, you will not receive requests for recordings in the future.
If I receive a video request and have questions about the incident, who should I contact?
If you want to know more about a specific case or have additional information to share, we recommend you reach out to the local law enforcement agency listed in the video request.
What does the video request email look like?
What does the video sharing experience look like?
If you choose to Review and Share videos:
Youll be prompted to log into your Ring account (if youaren'talready) to review the video recordings that fall within the date and time frame requested by the law enforcement agency. By default, all videos will be unselected and its up to you to select any videos you want to explicitly share. Onceyou'vemade your final selections, click the CONFIRM AND SHARE button. All selected videos will be shared with the law enforcement agency that initiated the request, along with your address and email address. The law enforcement agency may use your personal information described above to contact you for more information related to the video recordings and/or investigation.
If you choose to Share Videos without Reviewing:
Youll be prompted to log into your Ring account (if youaren'talready) to voluntarily share all video recordings that occurred within the date and time frame specified within the request. Once you click the CONFIRM AND SHARE button, you will share each of your Ring video recordings that fall within the date and time frame requested by the law enforcement agency along with your street address and email address. The law enforcement agency may use your provided personal information to contact you for more information.
Alternatively, by clicking NO THANKS youll have an opportunity to review your video recordings before sharing. If you choose not to review your video recordings, no further action is needed.
If you choose not to share your videos:
Youdon'tneed to take action to let Ring know you have declined the request. Deciding to not share your video recordings is absolutely your choice and Ring will respect your privacy. The law enforcement agency will not be notified if you decide to not share and Ring will not share your identity or any other information about you and the video recordings.
If you choose to unsubscribe from future requests:
If you decide you do not want to receive these video requests from Ring in the future, you can click the link at the bottom that says Click here to unsubscribe from future requests to share video recordings. That means you will no longer receive these video requests once your unsubscribe request has been processed through our system within 24 hours. If you decide to be excluded, Ring will not share that information or any of your personal information with law enforcement.

View ArticlePower over Ethernet (PoE) is a protocol that transmits both data and power simultaneously to network devices, greatly reducing the cost of installation and maintenance. This allows the placement of devices such as the Ring Stick Up Cam in areas without conventional power supplies. This article will explain Power over Ethernet and answer some of the most frequently asked questions about it.
How does Power Over Ethernet work?
Power over Ethernet is produced by a device such as a network injector, network switch or a router that has PoE capability built in. PoE allows you to supply power to a networking device using the same cable that transmits the data. If you have such a device it will automatically detect when it is connected to a PoE-capable device such as a Ring Stick Up Cam Elite and provide the device with power. This means you won't have to connect the device with a standard power outlet to get it to function.
Note: Ring POE devices need CAT5 cables or higher.
Do PoE devices such as Stick Up Cam work with standard (non-PoE) devices such as routers?
Yes. If you connect a non-PoE router to a PoE device such as a Stick Up Cam or a PoE router to a non-PoE device it will provide networking as usual but the device will have to connect to another source of power to work.
Can I mix PoE and non-PoE devices in my network?
Yes, although the non-PoE devices will require a separate power source.
How do I know if my router is capable of producing PoE?
You'll need to check your routers model number against the manufacturer to tell whether or not your device is capable of producing PoE. If your device is more than a year or two old, however, odds are it's not capable of producing PoE.
Are there any risks with using PoE with my Ring device?
No. PoE can be used with any Ring devices that are PoE-enabled such as Ring Stick Up Cam Elite. All current and future Ring products with PoE capability are engineered to IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards. If you can connect your network cables, you should have no difficulty connecting your device to a PoE producing switch or router and having it draw power.
Does hooking up a PoE connection require any special electrical knowledge?
No. You will connect your PoE connection at the same time as you hook up your network cables as both power and data are routed through the same cable.

While batteries in Ring Smart Lights will last for months with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors. This article will detail some of the factors that may cause your batteries to drain faster.
Weather Conditions
At temperatures below 40, battery chemistry changes and puts out less energy.Battery performance returns to normal once the weather warms up and remains above freezing. Click here for more information on battery life and cold weather.
Increased Activity
The more motion events are triggered by your Ring Smart Lights, the more your battery is used to power the device. If your device is reacting to an excessive number of events each day, you may find that your batteries drain faster than expected.
To prevent excessive activity, you can take the following actions.
Adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity.
Disable certain products during specific hours of the day.
Change Smart Alerts to Standard or Light.
Adjust the direction of your Ring product.
Tips and Tricks
The following tips and tricks will help you use the light and motion sensors on your device to maximize battery life and reduce the number of unwanted motion alerts.
For longest battery life:
Set Light Sensors to 0 or 1 so that the lights only turn on if it is very dark.
Reduce the brightness to the lowest setting.
Set Group Auto shutoff time to 30 seconds.
We strongly recommend using name-brand batteries such as Amazon Basics, Duracell, or Energizer.
Always use batteries of the same brand that were fresh together.
To reduce the number of motion triggers:
Only enable motion on the lights that are accurately detecting motion, and let those lead lights activate the whole group. This will extend battery life as well as reduce notifications.
Avoid pointing lights toward potential heat source or moving object. Heat sources and waving objects such as wind chimes might trigger motion.
To reduce daytime activations:
Set Light Sensors on devices to a low setting so the lights only turn on in the dark.
For Linked Device triggers, set a time window that closely mimics darkness outside.
When creating the link for a device to trigger the lights on Spotlight Cam, Floodlight Cam or another group, consider making the time schedule available later in the night to earlier in the morning.

What is the Ring Bridge?
Ring Bridge is the central hub that integrates Ring Smart Lights, Motion Sensors, and Transformers into your Ring system. The Bridge connects to the Ring app using your home Wi-Fi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol.
Without the Ring Bridge, your Smart Lights function only as individual units. With a Bridge, you can control whole groups of Smart Lights and other Ring products at once and be notified via the Ring app when any light or Motion Sensor senses movement.
In addition, you can use your Ring app to create Groups of Smart Lights and Ring cameras that work together to enhance security. For example, if youre subscribed to Ring Protect, your Ring Doorbell can begin recording video as soon as motion is detected by your Spotlight. This provides footage that captures motion events earlier.
Click here to learn more about Groups.
What does the Ring Bridge do?
Ring Smart Lighting lights run on a power efficient, long-range RF Network. The Bridge converts the RF signals to Wi-Fi to deliver information from the system to you in the form of alerts or diagnostic information. It also translates commands from you sent on Wi-Fi to the RF network to control the lights.
Do I need a Ring Protect subscription to use the Ring Bridge?
No. The Bridge will connect Ring Smart Lights and other Ring devices whether or not you are subscribed to Ring Protect. If however, you want your linked devices to record and save video images for any camera that was triggered, you will need a Ring protect subscription.

Each Bridge package contains:
Ring Bridge.
Instruction manual.
Ring Security sticker.
Note: There may be bundles available that contain a Ring Bridge and other Smart Light units at substantial savings. Check the shop on Ring.com or at your local retailer.
How far away can a Smart Lights product be before it is too far away to work with the Bridge?
The useful range between your Bridge and other Ring Smart Lighting products depends on the number of obstructions between them, and the materialsthey'remade of. The RF signal has a greater range than Wi-Fi, but you may have to experiment with your devices to find an optimal position.
Do the devices sold with the Bridge come paired?
No. You will need to set up your Smart Lights and the Ring Bridge in the Ring App during installation.
How many Spotlights and other Smart Lights can I connect to the Ring Bridge?
The Ring Bridge can support up to 50 Smart Lighting devices. These devices can all be in one Group or multiple Groups.
How do I setup and install my Bridge?
Click here for information on setting up and installing your Ring Bridge.
Is the manual available to download?
Yes. Click here to download the manual.
How fast does my Wi-Fi need to be to properly use Ring Bridge?

View ArticleRing Alarm security devices are designed to keep properties safe and secure. The actual results each individual Alarm owner experiences may vary based on factors such as usage, location, and the environment.
Compatibility
Ring Alarm devices are designed to operate in a particular region and are not intended to be used or distributed outside of that region. Ring Alarm devices designed for use in the UK or EEA only operate within the Z-Wave 868 MHz frequency. Ring Alarm devices designed for use in the US or Canada operate at 908 MHz and 916 MHz frequencies. You will see an error message in the Ring app if you attempt to set up a Ring Alarm system in a location for which it was not designed.
Additionally, Ring Alarm security devices can only be added to compatible Base Stations designed for the same region. You will not be able to add devices designed for one region to a Ring Alarm system designed for another region.
Z-Wave Range
Ring uses Z-Wave technology to securely send signals between devices around your home and the Base Station. The range for Z-Wave communication is up to 250 feet between the Base Station and the security device, however, a number of factors may impact that range.
Click here to learn more about Z-Wave technology and mesh networks.
Battery Life
Each devices battery life is dependent on actual usage. Ring has tested all security devices, and the estimated life span is as follows:
Ring Alarm Base Station - Internal rechargeable battery which lasts up to 24 hours of battery life.
Ring Alarm Contact Sensor - Uses a 3V Lithium battery, included, which may last up to 3 years depending on usage. Cold temperatures may drain battery life faster.
Ring Alarm Keypad - Internal rechargeable battery which lasts up to 7 months, depending on usage and power save settings.
Ring Alarm Range Extender - Internal rechargeable battery which lasts up to 22 hours of battery life.
Ring Alarm Motion Detector - Uses a 3V Lithium battery, included, which may last up to 3 years depending on usage.
Ring Alarm Panic Button - Uses a 3V Lithium battery, included, which may last up to 3 years depending on usage.
Motion Detector Specifications
The Ring Alarm Motion Detector is designed to ignore pets weighing under 50 lbs. when mounted at seven (7) feet off the ground and set at the lowest motion sensitivity setting.
As every property is unique, we recommend that you test your Motion Detector to ensure that it is mounted in the best location to detect intruders. In larger rooms, multiple Motion Detectors may be needed to ensure that there are no blind spots.
View ArticleYou can now provide people in your circle of trust - dog walkers, babysitters, contractors, and more - with limited access to your Ring Alarm, only during specific hours and on days that you choose.
The Guest User Scheduling feature gives Alarm Owners the ability to create schedules to determine when their Guest Users have permission to arm and disarm the Ring Alarm system using thr Keypad. This enables the Owner to give their Guest Users access to arm and disarm Alarm during a specific date and time frame. Owners have the option to customize schedules for a single day and time or multiple days and times each week when access is granted.
If a Guest User attempts to arm or disarm at any time outside of the schedule created by the Owner, the Guest Users access code for Ring Alarm will not arm or disarm, and the Owner and Shared Users will get a push notification to alert them of the failed attempt.
To add a schedule to an existing Guest User:
Only account Owners can create Guest User schedules. To do this:
Open the Ring app and tap on the Menu.
Tap Settings.
Tap Users.
Tap on an existing Guest User.
Tap Add Schedule.
Enter a name for the schedule, and select the specific start and end times for the schedule. You can also select the All Day option.
Select which Day(s) youd like to apply this schedule.
Tap Save.
Youll then be taken to the Guest Users profile where youll see the schedule listed.
To create a new Guest User:
Open the Ring app and tap on the Menu.
Tap Settings.
Tap Users.
Tap the + (plus sign) to add a new user. Then select Add Guest User.
Enter your Guest Users name and create an access code. Then tap Save.
Youll be asked if youd like to add a schedule for their Alarm access. You can tap Yes, and follow the steps outlined above.
Account Owners can create multiple schedules for each of their Guest Users. If an Owner removes all schedules, the Guest User will have unlimited Ring Alarm access. Guest Users are not required to be scheduled and can continue to have unlimited access to the Ring Alarm.
You will see history events within the app when a Guest Users schedule has been added, edited, or removed.
Note: Smart Locks Not Supported
At this time, Guest User schedules only apply to the Alarm Keypad. They do not apply to smart locks. If your Guest User has an access code which works in your smart lock and uses the code in the lock outside of the scheduled hours, they will be able to get inside your home and set off your Ring Alarm - without being able to disarm. You may be assessed a false alarm fee if this is not a real alarm.
(This feature is available for all Neighbors with a Ring Alarm. Professional monitoring is not required to use this feature.)
View ArticleThe key to getting the most out of your Stick Up Cam Elite is making sure that the device is in an optimal position to pick up everything you want to see whether you're mounting your camera indoors or outdoors. This article will help you place your Stick Up Cam Elite for maximum effectiveness.
Standard Power or PoE
Your first consideration when choosing where to place your Stick Up Cam is how you're going to power it. Your Stick Up Cam Elitecomes with a new feature called "Power Over Ethernet" (PoE) that allows your camera to draw power from its Ethernet connection. This will give you considerably more freedom when it comes to positioning up your camera.
Click here to learn more about Power over Ethernet.
Finding Stick Up Cam's Optimal Placement Height
Getting the most out of your Stick Up Cam means placing it so that it captures as much as you possibly can. That's why a quick rule-of-thumb for the Stick Up Cam is that, whether you're mounting your camera indoors or outdoors, higher is usually better. Your Stick Up Cam will work fine at about eye-level, but raising it up to about nine feet (outdoors) or seven to eight feet (indoors) will work even better. You'll still be able to see faces, but your camera will be able to get a wider field of view and see more.
Indoor and Outdoor Considerations
While your Stick Up Cam will work fine indoors or outdoors, placing them in these different locations brings up different considerations.
Outdoor placement tips:
Use Live View frequently when setting up and aiming your camera. If you can't see it in Live View, assume your camera can't see it either.
When aiming your camera at the perimeter of your property, try to avoid capturing the street or any passing cars. This will minimize the number of false alerts you get.
Be careful when placing your camera under an overhang or in shadow. A deep enough shadow in part of the view may confuse the camera and restrict your detection area.
Keep an eye out for any bright sources of light such as reflective metal or the setting sun that might blind your camera.
Be aware that the PoE Adapter is not rated for inclement weather and should not be exposed to the outdoors.
Indoor placement tips:
While your camera will work just fine when placed on a table or a shelf, you should consider mounting it on the wall. This will prevent jolts or shakes from people bumping into it, changing the view angle of the camera.
Try mounting the camera in a corner of the room to get maximum coverage of the space.
Don't mount your camera directly across from a window, especially one where the rising or setting sun might dazzle the camera.
