What's the vibe like in the Design dept at Safeco Insurance? How many hours are you working?
Contractors are kept at 40hrs/week until they have to finish a prototype for testing when they then need to work some heavy overtime. Permanent staff spend most of their day in meetings then have to get their work done after. Vibe: if you have a passion for good design, you will be surrounded by people who have no clue what to do. They won't understand what you do, or why. There is no design culture there. You will be placed in a bland, uninteresting open plan office mixed in with noncreatives that don't understand why you want to carry out design activities and will get annoyed if you do anything other than sit at your desk quietly. The developers will be unwilling to build anything that wasn't totally conventional 10 yeras ago.
