Executive Bio

Ms. Margaret L. Callihan has been the Chief Human Resources Officer of Suntrust Banks, Inc. since August 1, 2016 and serves its Corporate Executive Vice President. Ms. Callihan served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Suntrust Bank, South Florida for Suntrust Banks, Inc. since March 31, 2013 until August 1, 2016. Ms. Callihan served as the Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer of Southwest Florida of Suntrust Banks, Inc. since January 1, 2005 and served as President of SunTrust operations in southwest Florida since November 2004. Ms. Callihan also served as President of the SunTrust Bank in Chattanooga from 2001 to December 31, 2004 and was Chairman from 2002 to December 31, 2004 and Chief Executive Officer since 2002. Ms. Callihan served as the Retail Banking line of business manager for SunTrust in Tennessee and Alabama. Since joining SunTrust in 1978, she has held a variety of increasingly responsible positions including Middle Tennessee Branch Administrator with responsibility for all branches and Private Banking Groups in the Nashville area. She serves as a Director of Community Television Foundation of South Florida Inc. She serves as the Chairman of the board of newly formed Enterprise Center which oversees the Chattanooga city and Hamilton county technology initiatives. She also serves on the board of trustees for the University of Chattanooga Foundation, Inc. and is the chairman of the board of directors of the Greater Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the boards of directors of the Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga, the United Way of Greater Chattanooga and Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise. She is also a member of the UTC Roundtable for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She earned a BA cum laude and an MBA at Vanderbilt University. She successfully completed the course of study of the Graduate School of Banking of the South at LSU and the Colgate Darden Commercial Lending Decisions and Advanced Commercial Lending School.
