Mr. Michael G. Kane has been the President of East Group at TEGNA Inc. since December 2010 and has been its Unit President since August 4, 2005. Mr. Kane served as President and Publisher of the Rochester (NY) Democrat & Chronicle at TEGNA Inc. and Gannett Co., Inc. since December 22, 2010 until August 1, 2016 and served as its Publisher and President of The Indianapolis Star until December 22, 2010. Mr. Kane served as Group President of Interstate at TEGNA Inc. since August 1, 2008. Mr. Kane served as President and Publisher, The Star two weeks ago of TEGNA Inc. since July 2008 and August 1, 2008 respectively. He served as the President and Publisher, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle of TEGNA Inc. from August 4, 2005 to July 2008. Previously, he served as the President and Publisher of Lansing State Journal in Lansing, Mich. of TEGNA Inc. for five years and helped to pioneer TEGNA's launch of a series of free weekly newspapers targeting readers under age 30. Mr. Kane served as Vice President of TEGNA's East Publishing Group. He began his career as a freelance sports stringer. He worked in marketing and market development at The (Baltimore) Sun and for TEGNA newspapers in Wilmington, Del., Poughkeepsie and White Plains, which includes: Assistant Executive Director of the International Newspaper Marketing Association since 1982, Manager of marketing and promotion for The Sun in Baltimore, MD since 1988, Manager of marketing services, The News Journal in Wilmington, DE of TEGNA Inc. since 1992, and Director of market development at the Poughkeepsie (NY) Journal since 1993. He also held various management positions at The Journal News in Westchester County, NY, before becoming president and publisher of the Lansing (MI) State Journal and regional Vice President for TEGNA's Midwest Newspaper Group. He was a Director of Rochester Area Community Foundation, LLC. He received a BA in Communications/Journalism from Virginia Tech in 1981.
