  • It varies by position, department, and rank. Lower level employees can determine much of their rank and compensation growth based on how much value they produce with their efforts. Support employees receive relatively standard level promotions based on their competencies and department budgets. Promotions into management are easier within the operational side of the business, and much more difficult on the support side. Promotions above manager can be extremely challenging.

  • Top Employee Response

Williams uses an HCM system (Workday) that should generate auto-emails depending upon where a candidate is in the process. The efficiency and effectiveness of that system, however, depends upon the individual manager logging their decisions into the system. Therefore, a person may get notices within a few days of each action (application, pre-screen, interview, etc.), or they may wait indefinitely.

  • Popularity. They also put people in leadership positions over departments and functions that they have no experience with. Like an operations person will be a senior manager or director over safety. Makes things very frustrating because these are technical teams and the leader is totally out of their depth.

  • Crap. You start off with 3 weeks of PTO, covers sick leave, vacation, everything. Doesn't matter how many years of experience you have, it's based on years with the company. Compared to other companies in the industry, it's downright paltry.

  • Depends on what you mean by "challenged." Professionally, not much. Psychologically - it's pretty profound, haha.
