Out of 15 University of Memphis employee reviews, 17% were positive. The remaining 83% were constructive reviews with the goal of helping University of Memphis improve their work culture.
The leadership is totally disconnected with reality. The current president (who will leave at the end of the year) Tweets about sports while faculty and staff are under payed and stuck in buildings in dire shape.
The admin doesn't support people. They tweet about athletics and ignore the academic mission of the university.
Pay doesn't compare to peer institutions. Benefits are lacking. For example, our health insurance was not accepted by the largest local health system until recently. Admin salaries are huge. Those of us so Ng the day to day work can't keep up with peers or inflation.
The working conditions are terrible and the pay is not competitive.
Pay at the UofM is way behind other public universities in the state and region. Its terribly low. Coupled with the lack of support, its pretty miserable.
Meetings are painfully meaningless. The higher up the person who is holding the meeting, the bigger the waste of time.
No one works as a team. Meetings are a waste of time.
The culture is one of CYA. No one in administration takes responsibility for anything. They lay all failure at the feet of whoever is below them on the org chart. It's a culture of blame. It needs a complete overhaul.
The entire culture is unproductive. It needs a culture transplant.
People need to be supported. Petty politics have to go.
