Q&A With ViacomCBS Employees

Asked to all employees at ViacomCBS

  • It's work focused and very laid back. One employee consistently wears sweatpants and heavy metal band t-shirts. Lots of free swag and perks like breakfast and meals/drinks out of the office every two months or so. People are friendly and not clique-ish. People don't generally eat lunch together though, which I don't like.

  • It depends upon what part of Viacom - Nickelodeon is a bit more straight-laced whereas some of the other channels are a little looser but tend to be a bit cliquish. Overall people can dress how they wish. There is a pride with working there, too.

positive but a bit individualist, not a lot of team bonding

  • It's a bit low-key culturally. The environment is not particularly inspiring, but it is fine.

  • Very difficult depending on your role. For creatives, you'll have to demonstrate to a lot of people, for a long time, that you can quickly deliver something that consistently exceeds their expectations. Assistant editors looking to be promoted to editors can expect a minimum of 3 years before even being considered

  • Like everywhere, there are fewer interns now than there were years ago. I strongly suggest having software skills like MS Office but especially Adobe Premiere. If you can master After FX, you are more likely to be hired (speaking as an editor/gfx artist). Software skills are the easiest way to set yourself apart.

  • People that are cool. Don't show up to your interview in a suit and tie. Try to seem like you have a sense of what's going on with mainstream culture in terms of music, tv, and films. You will often be asked who you follow on Instagram or what TV shows you like (and throwing a Viacom show in there helps).

  • The most important thing is to have skills. And they easiest and most in demand skill is a basic knowledge of Adobe Premiere. If you can master this software, it will help get your foot in the door. Also, it helps to know the shows. If you email the shows directly on the facebook page, that will put you in touch with a marketing person. Other than that, apply online and mention your skills and connection to Viacom content.
