J. William Dantzler, Jr. is Tax Partner and Head of Global Tax Practice at White & Case, L.L.P. Mr. Dantzler is engaged in a domestic and international corporate tax practice, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and tax controversies. Mr. Dantzler's mergers and acquisitions experience includes numerous tax-free transactions in which White & Case provided the enabling tax opinion. Mr. Dantzler is well known for his extensive involvement in transfer pricing. He worked on a Puerto Rican pharmaceutical case, handled a Liberian shipping case, and represented a non-U.S. automobile company in one of the first major U.S. transfer pricing cases involving a treaty country. More recently, Mr. Dantzler has represented a major pharmaceutical company, a U.S. high-technology company and others in transfer pricing controversies. In addition to transfer pricing and other international tax controversies, Mr. Dantzler has worked on a wide variety of domestic tax controversies, including valuation and capitalization issues. He has led successful defenses to attacks by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service on leveraged leases, captive insurance arrangements and financial products. He serves as Principal outside tax counsel to a Fortune 500 energy company, and in that capacity advises all levels of its management on a wide variety of tax issues. He also has extensive experience in advising non-U.S. companies which are forming or recapitalizing U.S. subsidiaries and branches. He serves as Member of Transfer Pricing Advisory Board at Tax Management, Inc. He received his B.S. from Clemson University in 1974 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1979.
