Executive Bio

Ms. Marta H. Benson has been the President of Pottery Barn Brand at Williams-Sonoma Inc. since March 31, 2017. Ms. Benson served as an Executive Vice President and General Merchandise Manager at Williams-Sonoma Inc. and served as its Senior Vice President and General Manager of Rejuvenation & Mark & Graham Brands. Ms. Benson is responsible for strategic acquisitions and incubating and launching new businesses for Williams-Sonoma Inc. Since joining WSI, Benson spearheaded its acquisition of Portland-based lighting and house-parts brand Rejuvenation in 2011. She also incubated and developed Mark and Graham, a personalized gift-giving brand celebrating the artful mingling of typography and design, which launched in November 2012. Prior to joining WSI in 2011, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of Gumps, having been hired by private equity in late 2006 to lead the turn-around of the 150-year-old San Francisco brand. During her tenure there, she recapitalized the company, rebuilt the Direct to Customer (DTC) division and re-invigorated the brand. Before Gumps, she was part of the founding merchant team that grew Restoration Hardware from 10 to 100 stores. Ms. Benson served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Direct Business of Restoration Hardware Holdings, Inc. until September 15, 2006. Ms. Benson served as Senior Vice President for Merchandising and Marketing of Restoration Hardware Inc. from February 2004 to February 2006 and was responsible for merchandising and brand strategy across all channels. Ms. Benson joined Restoration Hardware Inc. in August 1996 and rose through ranks to become in January 1999 Restoration Hardware Inc.'s Vice President, RH Direct, where she was Incharge of Restoration Hardware Inc. direct-to-customer division. She is a merchant and marketer with more than 25 years of experience in specialty retail and direct marketing. Ms. Benson holds a bachelors degree in Philosophy from Wesleyan University.
