There's so much that's good, including the people. The problem is that we're hired because we have certain skills and then various preventable factors converge to keep us from using them. That's frustrating for me and bad for Signify. I'm good at this. I can only help you if you let me.

They seem human for the most part. They're not too touchy. I'm not afraid to talk to them.

Executives introduce requirements or solutions to problems without understanding the needs or getting input. This leads to waste and decreased morale. Once someone has a big idea that seems smart to them they push it forward even if the problem is unclear or there are better, less harmful solutions.

We need to be better at discussing ideas and alternatives objectively. There's a tendency for one or two louder people to shout down everyone else. Some view "pragmatism" vs learning from books and blogs as a binary choice. which translates to "Don't learn from anyone else, only listen to me."

It is not a culture of blame and finger-pointing. A large part of that is that we do good work. If there were fires to put out every day there might be more blame. There are expectations, but I don't see a lot of arbitrary deadlines. That means one less reason to assign blame.
