During the program, they receive executive coaching and offsites customized to building the leadership acumen for the next level of their career.

In each of the leadership programs, the Culture, Experience, and Inclusion team follows the current and previous participants throughout their career. We monitor their career advancement, attrition, movement amongst Textron Business Units and Bell functional groups. Golden Hippo’s Management Program is based on the fundamentals of managing a team. Current and new managers, as well as our high potentials, are enrolled based on career path discussions they have had with their immediate managers. Once in the program, participants have opportunities to learn the fundamentals from L&D, learn from one another via shared experiences, and receive advice directly from a coach focused on their individual development.

How does it benefit your company to promote from within?

Promoting from within sometimes comes with a smooth transition because the newly promoted Hippo may have already been working with their managers, a mentor, or a coach to jump into the role seamlessly. Our Hippos who are promoted take the initiative early on to help lead the team and learn from their managers before being promoted, which is a positive sign of a manager in the making. The expertise of our existing Hippos is top-notch, and promoting from within means they get to share that knowledge and have a larger impact on our organization.

Our manager programs include a new manager training for all internally promoted and externally hired leaders. Our L&D and HR teams facilitate this to support both leaders who are new to management thrive and experienced leaders align their background with our Fivetran philosophies. We also encourage our leaders to utilize our Fivetran Learns program to advance their development with a program of their choosing including outside coaches, college courses etc.

Our “Pathway to Leadership” provides development opportunities from foundational level leadership training to executive-level coaching. Specifically, we offer a self-paced Emerging Leaders program consisting of online curriculum for our aspiring leaders, a Foundations of Leadership training that sets current leaders up for success with additional ongoing courses and our Leadership Development Program (LDP), a 24-week immersive program full of one-on-one training and special projects. These training programs, along with our eLearning platform “City University” and its 1,200+ courses, are a portion of our development pathway and just the beginning of what we have in store for development at City.
