How's the work life balance at Charles Schwab?

For my position it is terrible
Depends on the teams. On some teams, there's no shortage of work, but teams are not well-equipped to get work done. Team gets burned out. The solution is for the manager to make sure there is staff to get the work done.
Could be better. Feels like it’s a huge thing to ask, when asking to work from home. Also, would very much appreciate the option for unpaid time off
Does Charles Schwab drug test or do a background check?
Yes, and they are ornery about it. Especially in tech, managers have opined about how hard it is to hire with the drug test requirement when weed is legal in so many places.

If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Charles Schwab?
More welcoming of working from home once/week. Also, unpaid time off options.
Get rid of anyone stuck in the past.
I would slow the abrupt changes due to the excessive fear of regulations and security and empathize with your employees and work on consistency.
How's the leadership on the Product team at Charles Schwab?
Poor at best
I would say product leadership is very strong at Schwab; there has been a huge focus on the Digital Leadership team to ensure that the teams under them are empowered to foster a data-driven culture and follow Product best practices.
What do people at Charles Schwab think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
I haven’t been here long enough to really know. But seems to treat employees well, except for high prices in the cafeteria and not enough time off

What's the work from home policy like at Charles Schwab?
Pre-pandemic, work from home was largely non-existent in a formal sense. Some teams/managers/roles supported it, but it was more exceptional than embraced. Remote workers were largely locked out of management and team leadership. Post-pandemic, it’s chaotic. They want to embrace more remote work, but have communicated that so poorly it’s made a mess of things. Many of the old school managers & directors hate not being in the office and were lining up to go back. But lots of employees are happier & more productive at home and are reluctant to lose commute time for no gain. To top off the chaos it’s been unclear who decides what roles/teams can work from home going forward. Will managers decide? HR? Employees? Who sets policies and how will the be consistently applied? How will remote work affect your career path? A lot of people have left because Schwab can’t seem to communicate clearly in any of that, while other companies are communicating & empowering remote work.
Straight up archaic in most departments, some have no flexibility while others do. Each director sets their team’s work from home policy. If your director doesn’t trust your team, you won’t be permitted to work from home at all.

Straight up unnecessary. They pull your Transunion credit report and test you for drugs. It doesn’t matter if you live in an area where medical or recreational marijuana is legal.

Build your network!! There has always been a ton of growth at Schwab, and I don't imagine that will slow down with the acquisition of TD Ameritrade. It is not frowned upon to move around within the company, Schwab wants their employees to stay long-term.

Schwab makes decisions on promotions based on TENURE; which often leads to young, driven professionals to leave the company. It is common for employees to move teams as a way to get to the next level - happens frequently.
