Does Fidelity Investments drug test or do a background check?
Top Employee Response
They do both. Drug test in person and a full background screening, which includes credit check, criminal record check, fingerprinting, BCI/FBI report, employment verification, education verification and driving record. You are required to fill out an I-9 to verify you are legally able to work in the US. I believe they look at 10 years of criminal history for both felonies and misdemeanors. They are incredibly in-depth and any issues that arise, you will be notified via email and will have the opportunity to address. They give you time to fix any issues or discrepancies, but they will require documentation. My advice: be honest and transparent out-the-gate. Check your email regularly during this process and respond to any inquiries quickly. If you want the job, until you get a final offer for employment (not a contingency), stay on top of this process!
Yes! After making you wait a month after the offer letter, they get around to doing a hard background check on you even if you are a contractor. They only use Transunion and my info was inaccurate and out of date by 10 years, but they don’t care. The background check information form is riddled with bugs online and is so antiquated. So first they verify employment and do the hard credit check . If you have a credit freeze you may want to remove it. They also do drug testing. You are mandated to get it done within 72 hours of getting the email. All emails came in the evening after business hours so when I called them, I got an answering machine. It’s a worse background check than when I worked for a defense firm in a top secret area. I’m not even working with money! Worst onboarding practice I’ve ever encountered in over 20 years of work experience. If you have student loans, they will hold it against you.
Yes. Both are required before you can be hired.

What's the work from home policy like at Fidelity Investments?
Top Employee Response
This varies by managers, but most managers are fine with 1-2 days working from home. 3+ days can cause issues with tax based on work and home locations. 3+ also requires a formal work from home agreement.
It depends on the department. On the development side, they like to have employees in the office whenever possible, but working from home is never really prohibited and there isn't any problem doing so as long as your manager is informed of it. Some employees work from home full time without any issue.
How flexible is your work schedule at Fidelity Investments?
Top Employee Response
I am in software engineering and development side. I would say the work schedule is very very flexible.
Quite flexible. We are expected to attend meetings and generally be available during regular business hours, but as long as your work is getting done, there's no issue with coming in later or leaving earlier for personal reasons. Moreover, working from home is almost always an acceptable substitute whenever needed.
