Absolutely, more so than in any other industry in which I've worked. The systems we support directly affect patient safety. Imagine a doctor doing an intricate heart surgery relying on digital imaging to perform the procedure correctly. He's got a patient with their chest cracked open and relying on IT to deliver what he needs to save the patient's life. When I worked in Financial Services, you could make customers whole by giving them money. It doesn't work that way in healthcare.
