A few ideas: Less political. Less heirarchial. Don't be so penny wise that you lose dollars. Let people do the work they are qualified to do. Less micromanaging. The way it's always been done isn't necessarily best practice.

  • Some departments receive better perks and engagement events. At least hide this fact if it’s not going to be equitable.

  • Work with the unions to improve employee satisfaction and then I’ll feel more motivated to build this system. I feel like I am very loyal but lately I’m wondering why. Or do I stay here because I am scared of the healthcare problems and KP feels safe.

I believe most people respect Bernard.

  • CEO is trying to manage the health care crisis in this country which is great, but I don’t feel cared for or particularly valued as an employee

  • We really like our CEO!

Telehealth is growing quickly. Keeping quality up and member costs down is the most challenging in the current regulatory climate.

  • Northwest pharmacy is sinking. The mail order is closing and management can’t even be honest with what is really happening. It starts at the top and goes down to all management, very bad managers.

  • Challenges in the Medicare space and opportunities in the commercial group space

I work with an awesome team, now, who value my contributions, but over the years, I have had several demoralizing and inequitable experiences. It all depends on the department and the leadership.

  • Burned out and creating factions of dissatisfaction

  • Most are very good to work with, a few are lazy and take too much time off or get by with bare minimum.

  • On the office side, not very. They are extremely slow to drop outdated software from the working process, rely on archaic annual reviews for compensation, etc. On the medical side, from what I've observed, it's the opposite. New facilities with fancy tools are opening regularly.

  • Compared to other health care orgs, very. Gotta remember that doctors are adverse to change because they don’t want to jealordize patient safety.

  • Progressively innovative. The organization is working to hardwire a speakup culture. A current initiative is: “CHALLENGE POSSIBLE- Do What Can’t Be Done”

They tell you there's an opportunity to work from home, several years later the opportunity still hasn't arisen

  • depends entirely on your manager

  • Normally quite flexible for exempt staff. Some Non-Union Hourly staff also WFH—but that is highly dependent on the department t and Leadership preference.

  • Health plan will treat you worse than the medical group because all they are concerned about is building membership at the expense of the employee.

  • Sour and negative

  • Learn names and roles. Write down everything, KP has a problem of never creating SOPs for roles and procedures, which really hampers quick development in a new role.

  • Ask a lot of questions. Depending on the department, you will be given very little onboarding support. Expect 1-2 years of just figuring out how it all works (which isn’t great, but most of your coworkers have been in the same boat).

  • Kaiser Permanente is an extremely collaborative culture. As such you’re most successful when engaging relevant stakeholders. Spend your first month getting to know people, and the context of their roles.

  • Your resume is looked at by HR and they forward any good looking prospects to the hiring manager. Then you go thru 2 interviews and if the manager wants to hire you he let HR know and HR will do background checks etc and send you an offer letter

  • Standard behavioral based

  • Varies somewhat by department, but usually starts with submission of a job application, follow-up/screening with HR rep, and a series of individual and panel interviews with hiring manager, related managers, and sometimes prospective project team mates. Very thorough, but straightforward. The process can be fairly lengthy and there are periods with limited follow-up. Always good to be proactive with follow-up.
