Our data indicates that supportive leaders make a big difference in the overall experience people have with their organizations. The companies that ranked best on Comparably tend to have significantly better leadership scores than those that performed worse – in essence, companies that fared well had much better leaders. Five qualities we consistently see as a thread among reviews analyzed about the top-rated leadership teams: Visionary, Transparent, Empathetic, Open-Minded, and Mission-Driven. If people feel appreciated by their employers, they’re willing to work hard and give of themselves to the job. To determine the list, Comparably analyzed anonymous survey feedback from employees working across 60,000 U.S. companies large and small. The ranking is based solely on the sentiment ratings of their top leaders. The list is segmented by Top 50 large companies (more than 500 employees) and Top 50 small/mid-size businesses (less than 500 employees).

Methodology
- Comparably’s Best Leadership Teams 2020 list is derived from employees who anonymously rated their leadership on Comparably.com over a 12-month period (June 30, 2019 through June 30, 2020). The final data set was compiled from 10 million ratings across 60,000 U.S. companies large and small.
- Final rankings were determined based on the most positive sentiment ratings from employees on their CEO, executive team, and direct manager, along with the company’s overall workplace culture score (based on 20 different workplace categories).
- To qualify, Large companies (more than 500 employees) must have met a minimum of 75 employee participants and Small/Mid-Size companies (fewer than 500 employees) must have met a minimum of 25 employee participants. Additional weight was given to companies with more participation from their employee base, relative to their company size, for statistical significance.
- There were no fees or costs associated with participating, nor was nomination required.
