A dumpster fire is probably the best way to describe it. Jim the CEO is not very good. the company as a whole requires their store and assistant managers to work 48 hours a week during the holidays and doesn't fluctuate their salary. They also require them to work 6 days a week during the holidays.
Toxic environment and you get yelled at a lot

How would you compare interviewing at f.y.e. to other places you've interviewed?
it was very laid back, mostly due to the store manager not being the one to do any of the hiring. she left it to the assistant managers whom were amazing but both no longer work for the company because she is unbearable
It’s pretty much the same. It’s one-on-one and sort of casual. The same type questions are asked: “why do you feel you’re good for this job, describe a situation where you overcame a challenge or obstacle, what are your goals?” etc etc. However, other employees have been given improv interviews along with the regular set of questions where the interviewer pretends to be a customer and asks about the featured albums and movies on the new release rack. While this makes it a little more difficult than other interviews depending on the kind of person you are, it allows the interviewer to test your interpersonal skills.

For me, the best part was being able to see the new albums and movies a few days before they were set to be released. I always got excited working shipment when new material came in. I also liked talking to customers about different artists and movies that we enjoy and helping them find certain movies or artists they had been looking for but hadn’t been able to find elsewhere.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at f.y.e.?
Not hard. FYE doesn’t give many hours

Have good register skills
What is the best advice you could give someone during their first month at f.y.e.?
No cameras in the store so be careful to watch people for stealing, otherwise you’ll run the risk of being blamed for theft
