The jobs I applied for and actually got involved a practical test, so I could prove my competency instead of trying to verbally convince people I knew what I was doing.
They are mostly focused on how well you will fit into the culture and the goals of the company. They do test your knowledge to make sure you can do the job. But a lot of the interview involved getting to know each other as a person, and with multiple people. 3 interviews, with 12 people

I had the most enjoyable time with my would-be coworkers as they tested my skills and problem solving. I came away having had a lot of fun and hoping I'd get to work with them.
