Asked to the HR Department at Caterpillar Inc.

  • It’s an interesting vibe in HR here. Everyone is super nice to you in person but lots of backstabbing and undermining of ideas to further personal agenda’s. In some ways it’s fascinating other ways it’s just plain odd.

  • You will work overtime, flat out. Expectations are to be available when your manager needs you to be, including off hours and weekends.

Asked to the HR Department at Caterpillar Inc.

  • Newer CHRO, from a smaller company so there have been some growing pains. Generally speaking though HR team follows Director team or VP marching orders. Not a lot of advocacy on behalf of employees. Compliance and complaint management seems to be the primary motivations.

  • New CHRO. Good ideas but HR is one of the least funded areas of Caterpiller. Little career development and even less educational support. We offer tuition reimbursement but very few receive it to pursue advanced educational opportunities. Recognition is good at the team level but from an HR perspective it’s nonexistent. Confusing policies and lots of freedom at the business unit level to override or get exemptions to the corporate policies.
