Frequently Asked Questions About FANDOM

  • Wiki Managers are part-time staff members assigned to specific wikis.

They are here to support your wiki's community and help it grow and thrive, as well as serving as a liaison with a direct line of contact to full-time Fandom staff.

You can read more about this role on this blog post and you can see the current list of wiki managers here.

To request a wiki manager for your wiki:

    Gaming wikis - contact JoePlay

TV & movie wikis - contact BertH

    Anime wikis - contact Pikushi

For other wikis, or if you aren't sure which type to choose - contact Fandom support (for the category option, select 'I don't see an option for my issue')

Note: to qualify, your wiki will need to have an existing community of editors participating, beyond the initial founder(s).

  • Wikis on Fandom are rarely closed. They belong to the Fandom community and generally stay open for everyone to use.

However, we may delete wikis that are very inactive and have no content, as well as wikis that break our Terms of Use or our Community Creation Policy.

If a wiki you started or were editing has been closed, please contact us so that we can look into it for you.

  • We don't usually close (or delete) wikis once they have been created. That's because wikis are owned by the community that builds them and the community that will use them in the future. If you aren't interested in a project any more, you can just leave it. Maybe someone will come along to adopt it and revive it!

If you just made a spelling mistake when you created the wiki, either in the URL or the name, no problem! Just let us know and we'll fix it for you.

However, if you feel your wiki is on a topic that no other users may be interested in (such as a personal project), please submit a closure request.

We hope you find another community among the many that are part of Fandom, and join in building a fantastic resource about everything you are passionate about.

  • If you are an admin for a wiki you can request to change your sitename or URL(or both!).Please double-check the spelling, and choose the new name carefully.

If you are not an admin on the wiki, please contact your community's admins to suggest the change.

Please use this form to request this change (select the 'I want to change a wiki's name or URL' category).

  • As a host for user-generated content, Fandom follows the notice and takedown provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you believe that your copyrighted content is being used on Fandom in a manner that violates your rights, you may send a DMCA takedown notice.

This page is a guided form that will allow you to fill out the required elements of a DMCA takedown notice (choose the "I have a copyright or trademark issue" category). When you submit it, it will generate a full DMCA takedown notice for us.

Please ensure the accuracy of your notice before sending it, and please note that Fandom is not in a position to provide legal advice. If you have questions, we recommend that you speak to an attorney.

  • I am a representative for a media company

Thank you for your interest in setting up an official wiki for your project!

Wiki Connect is the FREE official wiki partnership program offered by Fandom and Gamepedia to connect Developers, Publishers, Studios and Production Companies with their communities through the creation and curation of high-quality wiki sites. With the need for just a few graphical assets and no other cost to the developer, Wiki Connect is an unmatchable value.

For many wikis have become the go-to place both to learn more about their favorite games, movies, TV shows, and Anime and in turn they contribute their knowledge for others to view. While fans will often create wikis if left to their own devices, the best way to ensure consistency and stay involved with your community is to start an official wiki early!

Fandom will take your input and use it to create a polished and professional wiki for your community at no cost to you. Our mission is to collaboratively create high quality, community-friendly, and active wikis by generating polished wiki sites as a foundation for Games, TV, Movie, Anime and all our other communities to inherit and continue developing.

For more information about the program or to start the process of establishing an official wiki then check out our Wiki Connect Page to connect with one of our staff members.

If you're a wiki admin and would like to request we look into a partnership, please let us know here.

  • Please read the following information carefully.

On Fandom, we allow users to rename their account once. Before making an account rename request, make sure that the new name is the one you're sure you'll want to use on Fandom.

Renaming can be done through our rename form. Once the form is submitted, the rename will be final and you won't be able to change your name again.

You can then log back into Fandom using your new username. Your password will remain the same.

For further details on how account renames work, please see this help page.

  • Reusing text

Most communities on Fandom use a license that allows free reuse, generally a Creative Commons license. Reusing material is usually acceptable under the Creative Commons license as long as you provide proper attribution on every use of the content and link back to the original article on the wiki.

There's details of how to provide proper attribution on our Licensing Policy page, under the 'Using Fandom Content' heading. For example:

This article uses material from the Endor article on the Star Wars wiki at Fandom andis licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License.

The license for each community is listed at the bottom of the page, with a link to the specific license conditions. It's important to note that many communities are fan sites that use some content under "with permission" or "fair use" conditions. These may or may not fit your intended use of the content, and I'm afraid we can't advise on that.

To learn more about copyright on Fandom, check out our help page.

    Reusing images

Unfortunately, we likely cannot directly help with this. This is a general support channel for all of Fandom, rather than specifically for a single community. Fandom is a host for user generated content, and most images are uploaded by individual users under the fair use provision of copyright law.

As such, we are unable to either give or deny permission for their use. However, you could try contacting the individual user who uploaded the image on the message wall or talk page.

You can find uploader information on the file description page for that image.

If the above information does not help, please contact us.

  • If you have a favorite game, movie or TV show, then we probably have a wiki about it!

And on that wiki, there will be other fans like you who are writing about the topic and sharing their knowledge with all. So just type the name of the game, movie or TV show in to Google, and add "Fandom" to find the wiki you are looking for.

This knowledge base is about the whole of Fandom rather than a single wiki, so going to the community is the best way to get help.

Most wikis have a forum or discussion area where you can ask questions about all aspects of the topic. Look for the link on the right side of the navigation bar. It's just under the wiki's page count. If you have problems finding the forum or discussion area, please let us know.

However, if you are looking for the company that made the game, TV series or movie, we are not them! Fandom's sites are fan-built and fan-run.

This means that they aren't the right place to talk to the topic's creators, or to get help with your game account - but you might be able to find links to their official support sites on the wiki itself or via a Google search.

  • Harassment and bullying are never okay, whether it's online or off. Harassment means repeatedly contacting someone in a negative way, even though they have asked you to stop. Harassment is one aspect of bullying, which is when someone uses their strength to hurt others weaker than themselves.

Remember, not every bad interaction is bullying or harassment. Bullying does not mean "someone told me I was wrong", or "someone blocked me", or even "someone called me a bad name". Harassment and bullying are usually persistent attacks from someone who will not stop.

For more information on harassment and bullying, see our harassment and bullying resources page.

  • Most blocks are set by the admins of one community, and only stop you from editing or chatting on that one wiki. The name of the blocking admin should be on the block notice you see when you try to edit there.

You may be able to contact the blocking admin by leaving a message on your message wall. This is usually still open to blocked users and changes will usually be seen by others in the community. Your message wall can be found under the profile menu at the top right of any page. You can also contact the admin on their wall on Community Central.

However, if these options are not possible in your situation, then the best advice we can give you is to wait for the block to expire or join one of the hundreds of thousands other Fandom communities available.

If your block is global, please contact us.

Note: in order to look into your global block, we'll need some additional info. You can find this info when you try to edit a page or leave a comment - you will see a message titled "Your username or IP address has been blocked", like this:

Please copy and paste the content of that box, or send us a screenshot. At minimum, we need to know the block number, which will be labeled "Block ID" in that box (you may need to expand the box or scroll down). Just let us know that information and we will look into why you are blocked.

  • We are sorry to hear that you want to disable your account!

Fandom has many communities on all sorts of subjects and we'd love for you to stick around and find the one that's right for you. If you are having a local problem with your community, please don't hesitate to contact your local admins for help and advice.

If you have decided you definitely want to disable your account please be aware:

Fandom does not fully remove accounts, but we can disable or rename them. Disabling them will ensure the account is locked and can't be used.

This process is NOT reversible after 30 days have passed, and you will have to create a new account if you wish to rejoin Fandom.

This process will not remove your contributions from a given Fandom community, as these contributions belong to the community as a whole.

If you need any more information on what an account close actually does, you can visit our help page on disabling your account.

If you are sure you want to disable your account, please use the form here.

Please note you will have 30 days after making this request to reactivate your account by logging in and following the instructions you will see. After this waiting period, your account will be disabled permanently and cannot be restored.

If you are an admin of that community, please make an edit using your admin account to that bot's user page, to show your ownership and approval of it.

If you are not an admin of that community, your request should include a link to a public discussion that shows the local admins approve the use and flagging of the bot.

For more information on bots, please check out this help page. A common choice of bot software is AutoWikiBrowser, and you can read more about setting that up on this page.

  • The first thing we suggest is that you create an account. This gives you an identity in the community, and gives you extra abilities and features too! Your account will work for the whole of Fandom, so you only need to make it once and can use it on any wiki.

Now that you are a part of the community, you are able to edit and contribute to almost any page across Fandom. For some introductory help, try our editing tips page.

If you have questions about a specific wiki, start by contacting your local admins. You can also ask general questions to other community members on the community forums.

Remember, you can't break a wiki, so don't be afraid to get started!

  • On very rare occasions, Avast the makers of both Avast- and AVG-branded anti-virus software will send users a very alarming message that suggests that a particular wiki is "dangerous", "a threat", "infected" or guilty of phishing. Their software will then prevent you from accessing that wiki. Though there are many graphical variants of this message, it will look something like this:

    Send a report to us

After extensive testing of this situation in which we've used other, similar apps to investigate Avast's claims we have always found that this message is afalse positive. In other words, there is no cause for genuine concern.

Avast and AVG work by using a massive list of sites that they send from their data warehouse to your copy of their software. And they're aggressively conservative with this blacklist. Very rarely, one of our wikis will falsely trip Avast's alarms, producing a scary warning like the one above.

The biggest problem for you isn't really what the warning says, so much as the fact that it prevents you from accessing your favourite wiki!

Luckily, it's easily dealt with. You can:

Report the issue yourself (it takes about 30 seconds)

and let us deal with Avast

In either case, the best reports to Avast include ascreenshot of the Avast/AVG message you received.

Screenshots of the message give Avast the clarity they need to swiftly resolve the situation. However, if you can't provide a screenshot, you can still file a report witha URL of the page you were trying to view.

Never, ever, share your password with anyone. This is the most frequent way accounts get into the wrong hands, causing lots of trouble for the account owner!

  • Most people who edit wikis are there to help the project and increase the knowledge they contain. However, sometimes someone appears who wants to damage the wiki.

The good thing about wikis is that bad edits are easily fixed! A lot of the time it's quicker to clean up than it is to make a mess, so the good editors have the advantage.

The key to clearing up is the "history" page. Every page has one, which lists every version of the page, right back to the time it was created.

You can find the history page by going to the page and clicking the arrow next to the page's "edit" button. It may look confusing at first, but the most important parts are the dates, and clicking on one of them will show the version of the article at that time.

All you need to do is find the last good version, click "edit" then save without making any changes. And that's the vandalism gone!

Admins also have a tool to remove a vandal's edit in one click. See this help page for more about that.

And if you have too much vandalism to clean up, we have a user group that can help! Just go to the VSTF Wiki, and ask for help there. They are experts in cleaning wikis, so can help you get everything back to normal!

  • Unless someone is editing logged out, Fandom will not expose IPs. However, there are times when we will look up an IP to help us combat bad behaviour.

For example, if someone is causing damage to a wiki, staff are able to look up their IP in order to block it and stop them vandalizing.

The ability to do this has also been given to our Volunteer Spam Task Force and a few admins on major wikis. Community Central admins are able to look up IPs on that specific wiki. These groups will also keep IP addresses private, but they may show in block logs on individual wikis.

If you are an admin or moderator and need help with vandalism or other problems, you can request a check from staff. To do this, please use the form here. We will only do a check if there is a very strong reason for it, never just to satisfy someone's curiosity.

Non-admins cannot request these checks, please talk to your admin instead.
