How employees describe working at Hitachi Vantara
Wonderful working environment and inspiring leadership team.
Constantly laying off employees and changing leadership. Never feels like anything is solid. Was once a very positive and exciting company to work for but not now.
Excellent performance and quality combined with good customer support.
Not really a fair assessment as I work for a very small, largely independent team inside a very large company.
Review from Customer Support Dept
En practicamente casi todo. Es una compañia que terminará muriend

What part of Hitachi Data Systems's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Analytics, storage is dead
The HR department is growing the fastest with all the packages they are giving people, its legal and HR.
IoT - services is having difficulties with the new culture. There is an inherent attitude of system sales and not solution sales. many of the sales teams just sell boxes and services, not moving gracefully to solutions
What's the office vibe like at Hitachi Data Systems?
Exciting in some places, repressive in others, some people are just stupid and lack any real experience in there jobs, those are called managers and directors.
Too political in many cases. No chance for advancement, especially if you are not at HQ.
now - low morale. There is no sense of security in your position. With the changes being made, even the highest contributors in the company are at risk of losing their job
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Hitachi Data Systems?
I would fire the entire development organization and out source there functions to Wipro. Then I would fire anyone from Canada Or EMEA who is in management and hire people who actually know what they are doing.
not sure it can be fixed
A more concerted effort needs to be made to include customer partners in your business changes. Isolating and excluding the customer base from these major directional shifts in business only alienates your customers and turns them from partners to just a transaction
What benefits does Hitachi Data Systems provide?
Great 401k
401K match, health/dental/vision, 3 weeks vacation to start, 8 hours volunteer time
medical, dental, vision, wellness, many extra things like 401k, legal, gym memberships, etc...
What's the interview process like at Hitachi Data Systems?
Dont know, I never was interviewed.
It has been over 10 years. Recollection of the process is that is was an informal interview - meeting the hiring manager face to face one time with multiple peer and executive interviews to follow.
Arduous. Too much time and too many interviewers.
What do people at Hitachi Data Systems think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The old CEO was awesome - the new one is cutting everyone's jobs...
With the "transformation" currently going on, decisions made or mandated have been ill-informed and poorly executed. The wrong people have been let go and customers are voicing their objections. The top down structural decision making without consultation from the ranks or even really knowing what the rank and file do day-to-day is proving to be catastrophic.
He's new and not as dynamic as the previous CEO, but I can attribute that to language and cultural differences.
How's the work life balance at Hitachi Data Systems?
Top Employee Response
Good - but it honestly depends upon your manager. Mine was flexible, but there can be those that require people in seats in the office from 8am to evening hours.
There is none there is a word that means work yourself to death, that is what is expected from you at Hitachi.
There is no work/life balance at Hitachi. With the freedom to work remotely, the expectation is that you are available 7x24 to take a call from a superior, a colleague or a customer. Every issue from a customer is a critical situation demanding a response or an escalation. Balance is a great talking point for the executive team, but no where near a reality for those actually working the business.

How's the leadership on the Customer Support team at Hitachi Data Systems?

yes - a majority of sales and sales support positions are remote

protective and secretive. No longer is the company truly open. Even if the executive team swear up and down to transparency, there is no trust
Collaborative, everyone (with some exceptions) wants to move the company forward and will go above and beyond expectations.
What are your coworkers at Hitachi Data Systems like?
Top Employee Response

Negotiation as basic salaries are low.

Look at leaving, however, make the most of it and work towards gaining as much out of it for your next role outside Hitachi.
