Q&A With Hortonworks Employees

Asked to all employees at Hortonworks

  • Work Hard, change the world!

  • In a word awful. Very Machiavellian.

  • In a word. Awful. The sales culture at Hortonworks is a back stabbing Machiavellian culture. You need to look no further than last week's announcement of the sacking of Hortonwork's COO after less than six months to understand the culture. My advice is to look elsewhere, no amount of money will make up for the stress and constant nonsensical poundings you will take from your sales manager.

Asked to all employees at Hortonworks

  • My feedback was always within a couple business days. I was a government account exec, so I'm not sure if that skews the timing shorter as their public sector organization is tiny compared to other business units, but that was my experience.

Asked to the Sales Department at Hortonworks

  • The pay is great. The sales management are idiots. I've seen three different reps on my team fired in less than six months because their sales numbers were low. These were veteran reps brought in to build new businesses in the Federal space, but the VP fired them in their second quarter because their numbers were lower than his huge brain expected them to be. Join HW at your own peril! I've never been at a company with a worse culture.
