For this reason, we've now retired 'Make My Day' and are focusing all our efforts on making Guides the best app for the on-the-ground city traveller.

All purchases will be charged to your nominated card or account upon submission of your order. All credit and debit cardholders are subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer. We use a payment processor called “Worldpay” to process your online transaction on our behalf. For more information on Worldpay, please see the section headed “Privacy” below. If the issuer of your payment card refuses to authorise payment to us, we will not be liable for any delay or non- delivery.
We are sorry that we cannot accept personal cheques, cashier’s cheques, money orders or direct deposits.
For more information on how to place an order online, please see out Ordering and Payment FAQ’s
International transaction charges
Please be aware that purchases made from the Online Shop with VISA and MasterCard carry aninternational service charge for cross border transactions (i.e. where you are in a different country to the Lonely Planet company that you’re buying from, as listed in the introduction above)depending on the card issuer and type of credit card. This is generally between 1-3\% of the purchase total, but it may be higher. It is your responsibility to be aware of the international service charges that your credit card issuer may charge. We do not take receipt of these fees so we are unable to refund them in any way.
International sales taxes
Depending on where you are in the world, your order from the Online Shop may be subject to a sales tax that is calculated up-front as part of your purchase and will be notified to you at the time of your purchase.
In addition, please be aware that delivery of products to some regions may incur a customs/sales tax that is payable on delivery of the physical items that you have ordered. Please check your local tax laws and review our FAQ’s on Ordering and Payment before placing your order for any guide to check whether you might have to pay such a tax. If you aren't sure, contact us and we'll do our best to help you. Being aware of your local tax laws is your responsibility, and we are unable to refund any amount charged at the point of delivery as Lonely Planet does not receive any amount of these additional taxes.
Credit card verification codes
Unless you have a Shop Account, we require you to provide your Credit Card Verification Code (or CVC) in order to process your payment. The CVC is a number that appears on your credit card that allows us to verify that the person placing the order has direct access to the credit card being used.
Finding the CVC code
For Visa and Mastercard: The three digit number that appears on the signature panel on the back of the card. For American Express: The four digit number that appears in the top right corner on the front of the card.
We take great care with the personal information you provide. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.
Creating an Account and Stored Card Details
When you complete a transaction in the Online Shop, we may ask if you’d like the Online Shop to remember your details by creating an account (Shop Account) . If you create a Shop Account, your transaction details (name and address) will be securely saved by our Online Shop platform provider so that future purchases are easier and quicker for you. Your payment card details will also be encrypted into a secure token by Worldpay (who provide payment services to the Online Shop).
No one has access to your card details within the secure token (the Token). Our Online Shop provider stores the Token for up to four years. The last four digits of your card number and its expiry date will be visible to you (from the Token) when you log into your Shop Account using your username and password. If you would like to close your Shop Account, please email [email protected].
4. Delivery and delivery charges
The terms set out in this clause 4 apply only in relation to the purchase of physical products through the Online Shop. For digital products, please see section 5 below. For more information on delivery, including international brokerage charges and international transaction charges, please see the Delivery Information FAQ’s.
Delivery methods and charges
We send your purchased products to you by postal service. Most purchased products will be sent by standard post.
We can deliver to all the countries that are listed in the drop-down menu at the top right of the Online Shop homepage. If your country isn’t there, we’re sorry that we can’t deliver to you at the moment.
Please ensure that you provide accurate credit card details, CVC code, billing address and other information that we request from you in order to process your payment and check them carefully before you click “pay” as we can’t amend mistakes afterwards. We may not be able to process your payment or deliver your products if the information you provide is incorrect.
Shipping Charges
Except as set out below, shipping charges will apply for delivery of physical products purchased from the Online Shop. These shipping charges will be notified to you at the time of your purchase. Shipping charges are based on weight and distance and vary slightly from each of our three main locations, being Melbourne (Australia), Colchester (UK) and Oakland (California, USA). By making a purchase, you agree that you accept the shipping charges that have been notified to you.
As of June 2018, standard shipping in Australia is tracked via Australia Post's eParcel service, and costs $3.95 for deliveriesanywhere in the country. Free shipping kicks in when you spend over AU$60.
Similarly, in the UK, USA, Canada and Europe respectively, if you spend over UK25 / US$40 / C$50/ EU35 in any one transaction on products from our Online Shop, we will ship the products purchased in that transaction for free*.
*This does not apply to products to be delivered to the Caribbean, Asia & the Pacific, New Zealand, Central America or South America, or to first class mail deliveries shipped to the Americas or the Armed Forces.
Express Delivery
In some regions, you will be able to elect through the Online Shop to have your purchased products sent to you by express delivery. An additional charge, which will be notified to you at the time of making the purchase, will be payable for express delivery.By making a purchase, you agree that you accept the shipping charges that have been notified to you. For EU/ UK consumers, please note that if you choose an available option of express delivery you will not be refunded the additional cost of the Express Delivery over the cost of Standard Delivery if you decide to return your goods within the cooling off period of 14 days,
FedEx
For products shipped via FedEx International Priority to Canada, Central & South America and the Caribbean, you agree to us engaging FedEx, or a local broker hired by FedEx to deliver your products. You acknowledge and agree that FedEx may charge you a brokerage fee in addition to any applicable duties or taxes, which may be calculated as either a percentage of the value of the shipment or a minimum fee. FedEx may either require this fee upfront when you sign for the goods, or it may invoice you by mail. We receive no part of these fees and cannot provide a refund for any such costs incurred.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the delivery details you provide are accurate and complete. Otherwise, we will not be able to deliver the products you have purchased.
FedEx services most areas, but before requesting delivery to very remote areas (particularly in South America, Latin America and the Caribbean), it's worth checking on the FedEx website that they deliver to your specific area. If you've already placed your order and they don't deliver to that area, the goods will go to the closest FedEx depot and you are likely to experience delays and potentially incur extra expenses like arranging for your own broker to deliver the guides, or picking up the guides yourself. We must stress that it is only in small towns or remote regions where this is likely to occur, and recommend that in such cases you try and source our guides from your local bookstore before you travel.
Delivery times
If your items are in stock, we will deliver them to you as soon as we can In the case of pre-orders, we will deliver the products to you as soon as they are in stock. Estimated publication dates are listed on the relevant product page.
Please see our FAQ page for an indication of estimated delivery times for the guides you have purchased. Please note that these times are intended as a guide only, and we are unable to guarantee delivery of your guide by or within a certain time.
Return to sender parcels
If your products are returned to us by the postal service because you haven’t taken delivery, we will contact you to let you know. If the product has been returned to us as a result of our error, we will re-send the product to you by standard post for no extra charge.
If you provide an incorrect delivery address and the order is returned to us, or you fail to take delivery, we will either:
redeliver the product to the correct address, if provided, subject to payment of additional delivery costs, or
refund the value of the product (excluding delivery costs) dependent on whether it remains in a resalable condition. You will be responsible for any additional charges incurred including re-delivery costs.
If the order is not returned to us, you will not be eligible for a refund or re-delivery. Lonely Planet accepts no responsibility for deliveries made to incorrect or incomplete addresses provided by customers. In this case, you will need to place a new order with the correct details.
Please note, we will not be able to amend a delivery address once the order has been placed.
5. Delivery of Digital products
When you purchase a digital product through the Online Shop, there are a number of ways in which you can download your ebook. Firstly, there will be hyperlinks on the order confirmation screen. Secondly, we will promptly send you an email containing a link from which you can download the digital products you have purchased. Finally, you can access the download link from your account page. It is your responsibility to ensure that you provide us with an accurate and valid email address.
You can download each digital product purchased by you up to five times and for a maximum of 60 days from your purchase (whichever expires first). You can only use your digital product for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not share any digital product purchased by you by forwarding or sending it to someone else.
When buying eBooks, it's important to be aware that content changes from edition to edition, so use the previews to determine if you are making the right choice; and download and save your files before you hit the road, because you can't count on getting a good internet connection wherever you go!
We have compiled more helpful information on downloading and using our digital products here and here.
6. Returns and refunds
Returns and refunds are managed on a case by case basis, so depending on the circumstances they can take a variable amount of time to process. Where refunds are granted, payments will be initiated within a business day. Please be aware that these payments can take between 1-3 days to process and appear on your bank statement. See below for more information regarding the terms and conditions around returns and refunds.
Defective or Damaged Products
If your purchase is in any way defective, damaged or not as described in the product’s description page of the Online Shop, please contact us as soon as possible with your proof of purchase, and we will arrange for a replacement product or refund where necessary. For partial returns, refund amounts will be calculated against any discounts claimed at the time of ordering (e.g. 3 for 2, \% off, free postage offers etc).
Changing Your Mind if you live outside the United Kingdom or the European Union
If you change your mind, we can provide an exchange on physical products (but not digital products) should certain circumstances change as long as the products are in perfect, unused condition. Please contact us within 30 days of receiving your order, and we can arrange the delivery of your revised order upon our receipt of your original purchase. Re-delivery will incur additional postage charges, which we will make you aware of at the time of re-order.
Changing Your Mind if you live in the United Kingdom or the European Union
You have the right, under consumer laws, to a “cooling off” period of 14 days from the date you receive your products, during which time you can change your mind and receive a refund (subject to certain deductions see below).
To change your mind, please let us know within the 14-day cooling off period by contacting us. We will get in touch with you as soon as we can and give you the address to which you need to send your return. You need to make sure you send the products back within 14 days of telling us you want to change your mind. You will need to pay the costs of return postage.
Within 14 days of receiving your returned product, provided it is in a perfect, unused condition, we will refund you the amount you paid by the same method as your original payment, including the initial delivery cost at the least expensive rate. So, for example, if you have paid for express delivery, we cannot refund the additional cost of the express delivery over the cost of the standard rate. For partial returns, refund amounts will be calculated against any discounts claimed at the time of ordering (e.g. 3 for 2, \% off, free postage offers, etc). We cannot refund any credit card fees, brokerage fees or import duties, as these amounts go directly to third parties, not us.
If we do not receive your returned product, we cannot refund it, so please ensure you keep your proof of return postage.
For more information on returns, please see our Returns Policy.

This helps us keep track of your correspondencewith usand tells us if you're a first time emailer or a regular contributor. We do not send the writers your email address or name, though we do send them for feedback or suggestions.
If you leave the box that says "Allow Lonely Planet to publish my name in acknowledgement of my feedback" ticked, we will make sure your name (if entered with first and last name) is published as a thank you, in the 'Our Readers' section of the new edition of the guidebook.
View ArticleTraveller feedback is incredibly important to us and we treasure all of your contributions. The desire of the greater Lonely Planet community to help us improve our products is unique and highly appreciated. Thank you.
All travel and book feedback received via our Feedback Form is stored in a secure database and forwarded to the writerswhen they begin researching content for a region. The more information you can include in your feedback the more helpful it is to our writers.
We also use your feedback in other ways. Important corrections are verified by Lonely Planet staff and changes are then made to guidebooks when we run low on stock and need to print more copies in-between editions. These reprints happen around three times for each edition of a book, dependent on sales.
Common reprint corrections include removing businesses that have closed, updating contact details (phone numbers and websites URLs) and correcting any errors that may have slipped through during production. We usually don't update prices unless there has been a drastic change.
Some feedback will also be used for internal research and development, for example work on our maps, the places we do/don't cover, our various guidebook series and our digital products.
In some very rare instances we will use comments from feedback in promotional products or on our website butwill always contact the contributor before doing so to ensure that it's OK with them. We will use names only with permission.
View ArticleIf your property has been reviewed by one of our writers, it will still be published on our site.
Lonely Planet listings are not bookable via out site unless linked to Booking.com or Hostelworld.
Find out more about Lonely Planet writer reviews and listings here.
View ArticleYour booking information is stored here, and you can change your details in this section.
By making a booking through Lonely Planet or emailing us you will be supplying us with 'personal information'. We collect this to administer and help you use the Lonely Planet booking service, contact you about bookings and keep in touch with you (but only if you've asked us to).
We will store your details securely in a profile which you can access and update at any time. Sleep easy, we won't give your contact details to marketing companies for spamming! But we may disclose information about you to properties you book with, our service providers and to other companies in the Lonely Planet family. If you'd like to find out more, please read our privacy policy.
View ArticleWe understand businesses can change between the time of research and the time they appear in our products. If you have a complaint regarding your writer review, please submit your details through the Your Business form, including any changes to the business and we'll forward the information on to the writers for their consideration when next updating the guide or any other products.
View ArticleWhile we pass all feedback and recommendations on to the writersbefore they set off to research a region, the decision about what to include in our products is left entirely up to them.
This editorial independence has been an important part of our publishing model since 1973 and we believe it sets us apart from other travel-focused publishers.
The omission of a business doesn't necessarily mean that the business isn't worthy,it might simply be thatthere are other similar options nearby for example.
Don't let itdiscourage you from sending us your recommendations - our writersregularly discover great new attractions from travellerfeedback and they do enjoy hearing opinions other than their own!
You can send us suggestions here.
View ArticleIf you're a business or attraction owner, our online business listings form allows you to either tell us about your business (make a suggestion) or, if your business is already listed in our database, you can tell us that we have the incorrect details in our system (make a correction).
Please note that this process doesn't automatically update our website, guidebooks or other products. It passes the update on to the relevant writers and website developers so they can make necessary changes in the near future. We also only make factual changes (not editorial or opinion-based changes), and we only make corrections that are verifiable.
You will need to add the location of your business. Type in the first few letters and you'll see a list of place names appear. Choose the relevant one for you. If your city or town does not appear in the list, this means it is not in our database - for instance, not all suburbs are in our list, so you'll then need to choose the city or state that it's a part of - or the closest town.
Next, start typing in the name of your business. A drop down menu will appear, and if your business is in our database it will also appear and you will need to select it. This is dependant on the correct location having been selected. If, for instance, you're in London, Ontario but you accidentally selected London, UK, then your business won't appear in the list.
When you've selected your business, the address will appear underneath along with a question asking if this is the correct business. If it is, click 'Yes, allow me to make corrections'. The fields below will then be populated with the all information that we hold in our database about your business. Leave any fields that are correct and just change the ones that aren't. For instance, if your phone number is wrong simply delete it and replace it with the correct one.
In the 'Tell us about your business' box it is helpful if you mention the changes you've made. eg. Updated phone number and prices.
View ArticleMaps are an important part of any Lonely Planet guidebook. As such, we have done a few things to ensure the best user experience taking into account the different capabilities of the various e-readers and devices.
Most Lonely Planet eBook maps are created in full colour and are also scalable, so you can zoom in for greater detail without losing resolution.
We have included hyperlinks so you can jump to-and-from the maps and ‘points-of-interest’ reviews.
Most guides also include Google maps integration. This enables you to immediately pinpoint the location of a ‘point-of-interest’ as well as your own location. You can then use Google map functionality to plot your best route and estimate time and distance. Internet connection is required to use Google maps.
Given that some (generally older) e-readers have limited functionality we also include links where you can download full colour maps as PDFs. These can be viewed on numerous devices or printed.

Currently we offer eBooks across the entire Lonely Planet range, including:
Country guides
Region guides
City guides
Chapters from various guides
Discover country guides
Best Of country guides
Audio Phrasebooks
Travel literature
Travel pictorials (coffee table books)
We are also continuously experimenting by creating new products with our content, such as the current “48 hours in” series which gives a snapshot of what to do in a city in 48-hours.
Currently, the range of titles does vary slightly across retailers. This is mostly with regard to pictorials, and we are expecting the range to be standard across all retailers shortly. To find the product you are interested in, simply visit your preferred retailer and search for the Lonely Planet eBook.
View ArticleNo, you do not need the internet when using Lonely Planet eBooks. While our eBooks are designed to be used offline we have included some additional functionality that you can use if you do have an internet connection including:
External links to places of interest that are featured in the eBook. For example you could click directly on a hyperlink next to a gallery review to go to the gallery website for further information.
Google maps integration. In addition to using Lonely Planet maps (which work offline) you can also pinpoint Lonely Planet reviewed points-of-interest on Google maps. This will enable you to use Google map functionality such as plotting the most direct route and time to the destination from your current location.

What are ebooks?
Ebooks are digital versions of our print guidebooks - they are perfect for inspiration, planning your trip and making decision when on the road. When you purchase a digital guide, Lonely Planet will send a PDF (all devices), an epub file (for Apple, Nook, Kobo) and .mobi file (for Kindle devices).
PDF ebooks and chapters (all devices)These are the exact pages from our books saved in an electronic Adobe PDF file, and they are viewable with any PDF reader. PDF readers are standard software, and we recommend the free Adobe Reader software and app. Download the latest Adobe Reader for free from Adobe’s official website. For Apple devices we also recommend iBooks get it here.
When you purchase the complete guidebook, you will receive single file versions (PDF, ePub and Mobi or as indicated in the product listing). Alternatively, you can purchase individual chapters from various guidebooks as required. Please note, as these are PDF files, they do not include the same level of functionality as our ePub versions.
ePub ebooks (for Apple, Nook, Kobo)These are electronic versions of our books that are optimized for viewing on an ebook reader, a tablet or a smartphone. While Lonely Planet ePubs include additional features that this technology enables, they have the same content and similar styling as our books. You might like to compare the ePub and PDF files, and decide what works for you best. Click here for more information about ePub functionality.
.mobi ebooks (for Kindle devices)These files are recommended for use on Kindle devices. If you want to get more technical, they contain digital eBooks that have been saved in the Mobipocket binary ebook format.
What's available in ebook format?
Ebooks are available for all Regional guides, Multi-country guides, Shoestring guides, Country guides, Best Of guides, Discover guides, City guides, Pocket guides, Hiking & Trekking guides, Parks guides, selected phrasebooks and pictorials and travel reference books.
Some series, like the Discover, Best Of and Pocket series are available as a single file purchase (ie. we do not break these down and sell them by chapter).
If you click a guidebook that does not give an option to buy an ebook or chapters, this means we do not currently sell this book in digital format. Feel free to let us know that you were after this guide in digital format by using the contact us form.
What devices can I use them on?
That depends on the format - see What are ebooks?
Use them for research on your computer, or take them on the road using your laptop, e-reader, smartphone (iPhone or Android) or tablet this includes iPads, Galaxy, Nook, Kobo, Kindle, Sony eReader and more. If you’re not sure, check the specifications on your gadget before purchasing.
In all cases, we recommend that you have the latest software installed for the best experience possible.
Can I buy a whole book as a single file?
Yes you can. Destination guides currently available in digital format will be offered in PDF, ePub and Mobi format for use on your PC, Mac or handheld device. Available formats will be listed on individual product pages, so check this before you make your purchase.
Where do I find them on the Lonely Planet shop?
You can justsearch for the guidebook you are interested in using the navigation or search functions and, where available, the ebooks and digital chapters will be listed with the print edition information on the page with the individual information for each title.
If you want more information on a specific digital chapter that's listed, just click on the VIEW CHAPTERS dropdown on the product page, and then DETAILS for all the information you need.
How to download your files

Click on the download link and choose a format to download (for detailed information on downloading any of the available formats, click here ). All ebooks must be downloaded within 60 days of purchase.
We recommend you download your ebooks at the time or purchase and save them locally on your desktop or device. You will also receive anorder confirmation emailwith a link to your download page (this email will be sent from [email protected] ).Can't find your email?Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and similar POP email accounts often have an automatic spam filter that hides emails sent from any retail website (not specifically ours). Please check your Spam or Junk folder or even deleted items, as you might find your confirmation emails here. If you have checked these folders and it is still missing, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
All ebooks must be downloaded within 60 days of purchase. We know technical errors, computer crashes and download limits can make life hard, so we have given you five downloads to each of your purchased chapters just in case something goes wrong. Also keep in mind our terms of use if you are considering sharing your remaining downloads with your mates - as they buyer, these are intended for your personal use. Please note that some ebooks may be up to 100+MB in size, so if you don't have a fast internet connection you might like to fix yourself a cup of tea...
ePub and Mobi ebooks
In order to offer our customers a more complete range of digital formats for our guides, we have introduced ePub and Mobi ebooks - this suite is exclusive to the Lonely Planet shop. If you want more information on Lonely Planet ebooks you can see our ebook FAQ's here.
Can I edit the information in the ebooks?
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is used to ensure that our copyright laws are respected and that authors and publishers are fairly compensated. For our PDF ebooks, this means our digital guides are all protected, so this means you can't edit, insert or copy text, or merge the individual PDFs, but you can zoom in, highlight text and print the files. Please note that some ebooks created prior to Dec 2014 do not allow highlighting due to Adobe software restrictions.
You may also find that using some devices or software applications will try to convert our files from PDF to another file type. DRM does not allow this conversion.
You'll find more flexibility with regard to copying text from our ePub files, but you won't be able to edit the files themselves.
Is the information in the ebooks different to the print editions?
Our PDF ebooks present the content exactly as it appears in our print editions. Where our chapters are concerned, it's not uncommon that we reorganise the page sequence in order to create more useful chapter 'products' for you. For example, we may take a section like Day Trips and pair it with the Planning section - the pages aren't consecutive in the books, but together they create a standalone chapter that's better value for money.
Similarly, our ePub and Mobi files contain all the information from the print editions - only the formatting that is optimized to give you the best reading experience possible.
Are there any restrictions or limits to downloading my ebook?
Yes and no! We recommend that you download all your ebooks at the time of purchase or within 60 days thereafter - this way you can sure you have a saved copy that you can always refer to. We can't resend download links for out-of-print editions, or replace your misplaced purchase with a copy of the subsequent edition - so again, download your eBooks soon after purchase and in any event, within 60 days.
We know technical errors, computer crashes and download limits can make life hard so we have given you five downloads to each of your purchased ebooks. All we ask is that you don’t share it around and that you use it for non-commercial purposes.
Can I send my ebooks to a few of my mates?
No. Aside from the fact that it is not in keeping with Lonely Planet’s ethos, it’s also illegal.
Our ebooks are protected by the same copyright as our books, making the content of them protected by law. Sending the files to family, friends and strangers is against the law, as is posting a link to your blog, Facebook or other social networking page. As we've said, you can download each purchased ebook five times so you can have it on your personal computer or handheld device or your built in microchip (one day it may happen), so you're doing pretty well already, so please don't send it to your Dad, your Gran and your sister-in-law's best mate.
If you love that we offer this kind of thing and enjoy saving a bit of money (and room in your backpack), please support us and don't abuse the system. Lonely Planet owns all rights to its digital content and no part of these products may be copied stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form by any means, electronic, mechanical, recording or otherwise (except as permitted here), without the written permission from Lonely Planet.
Terms and Conditions for use
You must download each Lonely Planet ebook purchased within 60 days of your purchase to minimise issues down the track. You can only use your Lonely Planet ebook for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not share any Lonely Planet ebooks purchased by you by forwarding or sending it to someone else, or use it for any commercial purpose.
Lonely Planet owns or licenses all intellectual property rights to and in the Lonely Planet ebooks and chapters, including the content in the Lonely Planet ebooks and Lonely Planet’s trademarks. Printing out your chapters? Here are a few tips
Sometimes rather than using your device, you may choose to print out just the chapter you need. The settings on our PDF files will allow you to print chapters out at a good and legible resolution. (Make sure your printer paper settings are set to A4 paper, not letter or legal etc).
It’s up to you, but printing ‘booklet style’ is a great way to print out your digital chapters. Our PDF files are set up to print this way but it does depend on the printer you are using so make sure you check before you print. Printers in your remote beach hut may be a little behind those in your five-star hotel!
Backwards words and symbols? It might be that your printer does not recognize our fonts. An easy fix is before printing go into your printer preferences and selecting “print as an image”. If you have any trouble finding this setting, Please contact your printer manufacturer for some assistance. Printer stopping half way through the chapter? You may not know this, but each printer has a memory capacity. Often some of our files can cause a memory drain due to the high detail involved in printing the maps on our pages, or it may be that the file is just too large for your printer to print the whole file at once. You can use your printer settings to select the pages that you would like to print. Try printing the document starting from the page after that section, that way the printer won't get stuck there. If you want to print the color section, you could try printing one page at a time using this same method. You can also try saving the PDF to your desktop, and printing from this version, rather than an open downloaded one.

Where is my download link?
We provide you with links to your downloads at the time of purchase (on the order confirmation page), and also send them through via email so you can download your ebooks and chapters on the go. If you have an account set up, you can also access your purchases there.
Can't find your download link? We launched a new online shop on February 16, 2018, so if you created an account with us, login to your shop account and you'll find your download link there. You can also visit the Find Your Order page. If your order was placed before this date and going back as far as January 1, 2017, check for it on the Find Your Order page too. If your order was placed before 2017 or you're not able to access your downloads via any of these methods, please contact us.
Can't find the email?Check your spam or junk folder (or even the deleted items folder) as you should find your confirmation email has been filed here. This is a common query that we receive from customers who have Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and similar POP email accounts. Why? Because these email accounts often have an automatic spam filter that hides emails sent from any retail website.
If you have checked these folders and it is still missing, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
How to download PDF files
We recommend Adobe Reader to open our Lonely Planet ebook and digital chapter PDFs on any device, but you can also use software and applications like iBooks, Goodreader and others. We recommend Adobe Reader because it is free, easy to download, useful for loads of websites and won’t harm your computer software or files. To download or update for free, visit the Official Adobe website.
Once your payment is successfully processed, you will see an order confirmation screen which includes a link to download your purchases straight away. Clicking each link will start the download of the ebook.
As with most downloads, you can open the PDF and view it immediately, and we recommend you save it to a specific location on your computer straight away. Can't find it? Check your Downloads folder.
You will also receive anorder confirmation emailwith a link to your download page (this email will be sent from "[email protected]" or for more recent orders, "[email protected]").
All digital guides (ebooks and chapters) must be downloaded within 60 days of purchase. We know technical errors, computer crashes and download limits can make life hard, so we have given you five downloads to each of your purchased digital files. Please note that some chapters may be up to 10MB in size, and some single-file PDF guidebooks can be 100+ MB, so if you have a slow internet connection you might like to fix yourself a cup of tea...
How to download ePub files
Our ePub files are designed for Apple devices, NOOK and Kobo, but there are also apps like Aldiko you can now use to open ePub files on Android.
Apple devices (iPad, iPhone etc)When downloading directly to your iPad or iPhone, make sure you have an ePub reader installed - we recommend the free iBooks app. From the download page, simply download the file and open it in your reader (you may be prompted to "open in"). Here's a video that will take you through the steps.
If your iPad is synced to your computer, you can pull it across using iTunes.
NOOKDownload the file to your computer, then connect the Nook with the USB cable. Nook will then show where hard drives and other USB drives show (under My Computer on Windows or on the desktop on Mac). Double-click on the NOOK drive to open it. You can then drag and drop the downloaded ebook from your computer to the "my documents" folder or to the root of the NOOK.
For more information about how to use this device, visit the Barnes & Noble website.
KoboWe recommend using Adobe Digital Editions to add ePub files to your Kobo. Connect your eReader to your computer using the included USB cable. A prompt will appear on the eReader screen - tap Connect. Then right-click the book file and click Open With. Click Adobe Digital Editions. Adobe Digital Editions should start automatically and open the book. In Adobe Digital Editions, click the Library icon. Select your new book and drag it to the Kobo eReader bookshelf (listed on the left side under Bookshelves).
For more information about how to use this device, visit the Official Kobo website.
How to download Mobi files
These files are recommended for use on Kindle devices (or the Kindle App for iOS or Android). If you want to get more technical, they contain digital eBooks that have been saved in the Mobipocket binary eBook format.
Transferring Your Files by EmailYou can email your Kindle files as attachments, and they'll be added to the Documents section of your Kindle. To set this up, log into Amazon.com and then go to Your Account: Manage Your Kindle: Personal Document Settings. You can email your Kindle files as attachments*. The files must be in one of the supported formats, and they'll be added to the Documents section of your Kindle. To set this up, log into Amazon.com and then go to Your Account-->Manage Your Kindle-->Personal Document Settings.
*Please note that this function only works if the file is under the 50 MB size limit set by Kindle. If the file is above this size, you'll need to either download the file directly from the download page through your device or transfer the file another way.
Transferring Your Files by USBIf you use a micro-usb cable and connect it to your computer, you can transfer files to and from your Kindle just like it was an external hard drive. Place any .mobi files in the Books folder, and place .pdf and other formats in the Documents folder. Once you've added your files, you may need to restart the Kindle to get it to recognize your new books.
Transferring Using DropboxNavigate to your eBook file and rather than just tapping to open it, you'll want to select the triangle to the right of the file name. next, tap Export. Choose Save to SD Card (your Kindle doesn't actually have an SD card, but this gets you to the internal storage space). Then select Books, and finish by tapping Export. Once you've done this, you should restart your Kindle Fire.
Free reading apps for Kindle are listed here.
Where are the files I downloaded - I can't find them?!
If you were not asked to specify a folder (usually on your desktop) when downloading your files, then your digital purchases have been saved to a default “downloads” folder. If you don’t know where this lives in on your hard drive, you can do one of two things do a search using a keyword from one of the file names, or download the ebook again using the link we sent you (each ebook or chapter can be downloaded up to 5 times). This time when you click on the download link, select the 'Save to disk' option and save the chapter to a folder on your desktop.
If you have run out of downloads or are still experiencing difficulties, please let us know.
Important information about downloading PDFs to Apple devices
When using an Apple device, by default the PDF will open in a web browser (like Safari) or using Preview while this allows you to view the guide, itdoes notautomatically save a copy.
After opening the guides on your device (iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone, iTouch), you must still save a copy into your PDF reader app of choice by tapping the screen this will prompt you to open and save the file using an app (like iBooks, Adobe Reader, Goodreader, Kindle etc).
If you do not see the 'Open in iBooks' prompt then please select the 'Share' button (the square with an arrow pointing upward). When you tap the icon, a list of options will appear. Select 'Open In' and then select 'Copy to iBooks' or some other reader app.
We recommend using iBooks or free apps like Adobe Reader. Once you have downloaded a PDF reader, you will be able to save the files to your device and then view them without connecting to the internet - this will save you time, money and data charges.
Check out our videowhich will take you through the download process.
Keep in mind that sometimes handheld devices might not always be reliable when trying to download larger files over WiFi - the connection may not be strong enough and the processors not fast enough. Where this happens, you'll find that the device keeps trying to download the file, and you may discover you have run out of downloads before you know it.
A more reliable alternative is to download the files to your desktop computer or laptop. You can then either copy them across, or email them as an attachment to the email account you have set up on your device. This also means that if you ever lose access to your files on your device, you will have access to them as long as you save the email or keep the files saved on your home computer.
Using Google Chrome on Apple devices
This can sometimes be an issue when trying to download files. When you trigger the download, you might receive a message along the lines of“the link you are trying to access has security risks, and Chrome has blocked your device from viewing the site”,and find that one of your downloads has been used up.
We can assure you that our files pose no such risk, and this is an issue of browser compatibility that we are working to resolve. The solution is to use another browser to open your download email, and we recommend the Apple-developed Safari browser is used on Apple devices.
I'm having trouble downloading my eBook (General)
Don’t stress it’s probably an easy fix. If your internet connection goes down, simply refresh the screen when it's back up and your download will continue.
Alternatively, it might be an old version of a web browser that's causing the problem. Try downloading the file in a different web browser, or think about downloading the latest version of one of the following for free (it only takes a few minutes):
Internet Explorer: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer
Firefox: getfirefox.com
Google Chrome: http://www.google.com/chrome
If you opened your eBook in a new browser tab or window, then the reported download count won’t decrease until you refresh your download page.
If you're still experiencing difficulties, please refer to our troubleshooting tips below. If they do not address the problem or you need our help, please use our contact form or dial the number that's included on your invoice email - we will help you get the problem resolved as soon as we can.
Make sure you have the latest version of your PDF reader
If your PDF file downloads but does not open, it is likely that your PDF reader needs updating. Our files are best suited to Adobe Reader 9.x (or higher) if you are not sure which version you have, you can download the latest for free here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Note that you can download each eBook or chapter up to 5 times, so please refer back to your order confirmation email to access the download link if needed. If you are unable to find this email, please be sure to check your spam/junk folder before contacting us.
Strange symbols or font not available
Our recent files have been created using the latest version of Adobe, and older versions do not have the fonts we used to create our files. To fix the problem, you need to download the latest version of the Adobe Reader from the Official Adobe website for free.
Error: Corrupt or Damaged File
We'd like to reassure you that files purchased from lonelyplanet.com are not corrupt, and if you are presented with this error message it just means something went wrong in the download process. This might mean that your internet signal was too weak, or it went down for a moment. To rectify this and open your file, you'll need to download it again (note that you can download each file up to 5 times). Once downloaded, be sure to open the file using Adobe Reader, NOT within your web browser (like Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer etc).
Error: Bad Encrypt Dictionary
You'll see this error when your PDF reader not being able to decrypt our file. Why? Our newer PDF chapters have been created using Adobe 9, so if you have an older PDF reader installed it may not be recognising some of the fonts we have used in our files .
This is easily fixed with an update to the latest version of Adobe Reader. To download or update the latest Adobe Reader for free, visit the official Adobe site.
If you have a preference for another PDF viewer, simply ensure that you have downloaded the latest update for this software. If updating to the latest version does not work, please download Adobe to view the files. A tip: Please remember that after updating your software, you need to use the updated PDF viewer to open the file.
Mac users: If you are using Preview to view the file, try updating your current version. Alternatively, use Adobe to view the files.
My iPad keeps crashing
This is generally an issue of memory capacity - the iPad is not as powerful as a computer and the operating system isn't built to handle the downloading of large files (eg. that include complex maps). We have found that our PDF files open without issue when viewed in the free Adobe Reader app. This app is able to process the complex maps found in some of our chapters and is available from the Apple App-store.
If it does happen, the first thing to do is make sure you have the most up-to-date operating system and reader that you can. After that, make sure you have enough memory to open and read the file by taking steps to maximise the available memory. This may mean shutting down all other programs, deleting unwanted files or even turning the device off and back on.
If this does not work, you are best to download the files to your desktop, and then transfer them to your iPad. The most MAC-friendly way to do this is by opening the file in Preview, and then saving it to your desktop. They should open without incident if you follow this suggestion.
My PDF is downloading as a .html file (Android devices)
We have reports of this happening when travelers are using Internet Explorer on Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy tablet. This is related to the fact that Android devices do not support Windows, and therefore they download what is called the source file, rather than the PDF itself.
The solution is an easy one - you'll just need to download the file using another internet browser like Chrome, Opera or Firefox.

It will also include download links for any ebook and chapter purchases you have made. Can't find it? Make sure you check your spam/junk folder as the security settings on your computer may have sent it there. If you have an account with us, you will also be able to access your purchases by logging in. You can also access your download links and view your order at any time via our Find Your Order page.
How do I place an online order?
We’ve made our online shop simple to use, but here’s a quick step by step guide to get you started.
Go to the Shop homepage. If you have an account, sign in at the top right of the page. Otherwise you can browse and shop as a guest.
Select the country you are in (or the one you want any purchases delivered to) from the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner of the page. If your country doesn’t appear on this list, we’re sorry but we can’t deliver products to you right now.
Browse the site and select the products you want to view by clicking on them.
You’ll be taken to the detail page of that product. To add a product to your cart, click the ‘Add to cart’ or 'Pre-order' and a mini-cart will appear on the top right of the page.
Continue shopping by using the navigation, or the search function.
Finished shopping? Just click the ‘Cart’ button at the top of the page. From here we recommend you preview your cart by clicking onYOUR SHOPPING CART at the top. Alternatively you proceed straight to the checkout.
To checkout
Check your country of delivery (top right corner), and review your selections, prices, and discounts. If you have a promotional code, click ADD CODE and enter it here. Please note that the cart will always calculate the best discount for you. Click PROCEED TO CHECKOUT.
Enter your customer information. Our system accepts English language addresses only, and does not accept accents (e.g.,, etc).If you have an account and are logged in, your default details will appear here. Make sure the shipping and billing addresses are the ones you want to use for this order. You can also add a promo code on this page too.
Once you are happy with the information on this page, click CONTINUE TO SHIPPING METHOD.
Select your shipping method after reviewing any conditional information and delivery times on this page. Note that there might only be one method available. If you are satisfied, click CONTINUE TO PAYMENT.
Select your payment method. Lonely Planet accepts payment via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Visa Debit and Visa Electron (UK). We do not accept payment via Discover or Diners cards, so please use one of our accepted cards if you have one. Once your details are entered and you choose to agree to the terms, click CONFIRM PURCHASE.
If you select PayPal, you will need to agree to the terms and conditions before being sent over to the PayPal site, and then click CONTINUE TO PAYPAL. If you select a credit card, refer to point 7 below.
Please ensure that the shipping address you have nominated with PayPal matches the one you have entered on our site. If your shipping address differs from the one your credit card is matched to, you will need to enter your billing address too (the billing address is needed to confirm you are the card holder).
If your payment has been successful, you will then see an order confirmation page that includes your order number and details of your purchase. It will also include download links for any ebook and chapter purchases you have made.
You will also receive an email immediately confirming these same details. Can't find it? Make sure you check your spam/junk folder as the security settings on your computer may have sent it there.
If you have an account with us, you will be able to access your purchases by logging in. For orders older than 2017, you can also access your download links at any time via our Find Your Order page.
Your order is now safely in our hands. Book orders will be followed up by a dispatch email, confirming that your order has left our warehouse, along with information about expected delivery times.

Is it safe to use my credit card online?
When you complete a purchase using your credit card in the Lonely Planet Online Shop your transaction will be processed by WorldPay, a secure and safe system that protects your credit card details. WorldPay are a major global leader in payment processing who has helped pioneer online payment processing for businesses. To learn more about them head to http://www.worldpay.com/.
International transaction charges
All Lonely Planet online shop credit card transactions are processed centrally through WorldPay. VISA and MasterCard purchases sometimes carry an International Service Charge for cross border transactions (i.e. where the retailer and shopper are in different countries). Not all cards transactions carry this charge (it depends on your credit card issuer) and the amount is between 1-3\% of the purchase total. Lonely Planet does not take receipt of these fees is unable to refund them, and any queries regarding these fees should be taken up with your card issuer.
You’ll see the country of the Lonely Planet company you’re buying from during the check-out process so you will know before you confirm the transaction whether it will be domestic or international.
Paying with Revolut cards
If you are using the travel card Revolut to make your payment and you see the message "There was a problem processing your payment. A transaction status of AUTHORISED is required", it means that while the pre-authorisation for the payment was successful, the attempt to take your payment and order was not. What you see on your financial statement is a pre-authorisation NOT a charge, and it is cancelled within minutes.
Why did it happen? It is generally one or two reasons - that there is either a mismatch between the billing country you entered and the issuing country of the card, or that the address verification on your card has failed. Double check these details and try again.
Please feel free to contact us where you see this, but we also recommend getting in touch with the issuer. The quick fix will be to use another card until you have spoken with a representative at Revolut - it may be that you just need to make them aware of your specific travel plans.
Sales taxes and duties
Some countries include sales taxes in the total cost of your purchase so you will have paid for them up front. However, delivery to some regions may incur a customs/sales tax that is payable on delivery of the goods.
Parts of Central & South America, the Caribbean, The Philippines, Indonesia, Canada and Mexico may all chargeadditionaltaxes for thedeliveryof your package. If you're located in these areas, check out the local tax laws before placing your order.
If you aren't sure, contact us and we'll do our best to help you. Being aware of your local sales tax legislation is the responsibility of the consumer and we are unable to refund any amount charged at the point of delivery.
Please be aware that Lonely Planet does not receive any amount of these additional taxes.
What's a CVC code & how do I find it?
The Card Verification Code (also known as CVC or CVV) is a number that appears on your credit card that lets us verify that the person placing the order has direct access to the credit card being used.
On Visa & MasterCard: The last three numbers as they appear on the signature panel on the back of the card.
On American Express: The four digit number that appears in the top right corner on the front of the card.
Gift vouchers
Unfortunately we do not offer gift vouchers at this point in time, but we are looking to have these available as an option in the near future. We know this is taking longer than expected - hold tight!
We have a great range of general interest gift titles available here if you're looking for some inspiration.
Special characters
Unfortunately our system doesn’t recognize special characters such as Chinese text, accents and umlauts or double quotes (“). If your details include any of these, this may cause a misprint on your shipping label and cause your parcel to be delayed or worse, lost. The safest option is simply to input all your details in basic English characters only.
View ArticleOur writers may visit when researching for any content covering your region. This could be any time between 2 months to 2 years from when you contact us, depending on our research schedule.
Please be assured that if you submit your full contact details via the business listings form, the writers will receive this information, although we can't promise that they will definitely visit or recommend your business - we leave that decision entirely up to them.
Please note that the writers are not required to announce their visit when researching in order save time and to keep their reviews objective.

Thorn Tree's origin
The latest update to Thorn Tree search will give users the ability to find a specific country/interest forum or search topics/posts for specific keywords in the same place. This project was based on specific requests from the community, we appreciate your patience while we worked to take a small step towards better forum searching.
Never fear, the ability to scan through a list branches or forums still exists but typing the destination in the search box will be the fastest way to navigate in Thorn Tree moving forward.
Pro tip: Are you visiting a specific country? Consider yourself to be an expert on a country (or countries) or an activity? Feel free to subscribe to your favorite forum once you've located it for updates and easier navigation.

For those who miss the old Thorn Tree intro text, we created an article in our help section which discusses . The Gall-Peters projection map is still here as well, but we're going to move it further down the page so that travelers view recent forum activity sooner in the visit.

If you received a letter saying your POI (point of interest / business) was included in a specific guidebook and it isn't - we apologise - this was an error. The POI will, however, exist on our online listings, guides app listings or possibly in other iterations of guidebooks within that region, such as our Pocket Guides.
