Executive Bio
As general counsel and corporate secretary, Bill McCanless is responsible for the company's legal function as well as advising the chairman and board of directors on corporate governance matters. He has served in this role since 2015.
Bill has also served as Lowe's chief compliance officer. Prior to Lowe's, he served as chief legal officer, general counsel and secretary for Extended Stay America, Inc. and ESH Hospitality, Inc. Bill served in several executive management positions with Delhaize/Food Lion, including SVP, general counsel, secretary and chief administrative officer. He served as Delhaize America's president and CEO as well as CEO of the Food Lion subsidiary during the same tenure.
Bill earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
