Executive Bio

Mr. Jean-Philippe Courtois serves as Executive Vice President of Microsoft Corporation and has been its President of Global Sales, Marketing and Operations since July 2016. Mr. Courtois served as the President of Microsoft International B.V., a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation since June 20, 2005. He served as the President of Microsoft AB. He also places a high priority on spreading the benefits of technology for economic and social development - creating ubiquitous access to technology, helping ensure Internet safety, supporting education and generating economic growth and opportunity. Mr. Courtois served as Senior Vice President of Microsoft Corporation since July 2000. He served as the President of Microsoft Europe Middle East and Africa for Microsoft Corporation from July 2000 to March 2003. He leads sales, marketing and services for all regions outside the United States, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Japan, China, the Asia Pacific region, Latin America and emerging markets of Microsoft. His leadership reflects Microsoft's commitment to customers, industry partners and governments. During his 21 years at Microsoft Corp., Mr. Courtois has held several key leadership positions and was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft EMEA from March 2003 to June 2005. His role included leading worldwide business planning process for EMEA, improving customer satisfaction and enhancing regional integration. Mr. Courtois served as the President of Microsoft EMEA from 2000 to 2003 and as its Vice President of Worldwide Customer Marketing, based in Microsoft's U.S.A headquarters in Redmond, Wash from 1998 to 2000. Following Microsoft's reorganization in March 1999, a process that realigned Microsoft's divisions to focus on core customers, he launched Customer and Partner Satisfaction initiative and was instrumental in managing its strategic, global rollout. Before that, he served as Vice President of Microsoft Europe in 1997 and became General Manager for Microsoft France in 1994, following several promotions. Mr. Courtois joined Microsoft France in 1984 as a Channel Sales Representative. Before joining Microsoft, he spent 18 months as a Product Manager for Memsoft, a French accounting software company. He sits on the Advisory Council of the European Policy Centre and on European- American Industry Council (EAIC) and serves as a Board Member of CSR Europe. He served as the Co-Chairman of World Economic Forum's Global Digital Divide Initiative Task Force. He also shares responsibility for Microsoft Corp.'s worldwide public sector team, directing the Microsoft Corporation's engagement with governments around the globe. Mr. Courtois is an Administrator for PlaNet Finance and the official representative of Microsoft at Institute Montaigne. He served as a Non-Executive Director of AstraZeneca plc from February 18, 2008 to December 1, 2016. He served as a Director of PlaNet Finance. Mr. Courtois graduated from Ecole Superieure de Commerce, Nice (CERAM) and obtained his DECS.
