For anyone that works on a government contract it is necessary to complete periodic background checks for each new project. No drug testing usually, but getting caught working under the influence of any illegal substance is grounds for termination.

Case by case basis between the employee and their direct manager, then with their Director. Performance, culture fit, vested status with the company, and region are all factors.
