What do you like best about the leadership team?Leadership varies greatly at this institution. Some leaders truly advocate for their staff while others just do as their told with no regard to how their directives impact operations, morale, or ethics. Crucial decisions usually come from people who have little to no daily interaction with students.
What do you like best about the leadership team? They gave me competative pay, hours, and bonuses. I was given time off whenever I needed it and was not penalized for it. I am also a student so they made sure my grades were kept up as I worked after classes.
What are some of the best things about your team?Team morale and work ethic vary campus to campus. Certain campuses have better reputations than others. Some departments play well with others while others do not.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation? The college pays better than some, but to truly live comfortably in northern Virginia, salaries must be increased. Many of the staff work second jobs to avoid living paycheck to paycheck. Enormous salary differences exist between College staff who do similar jobs (Advisors vs Academic Counselors).
What needs to change to make the company culture better?Executive leadership needs to be more transparent with future plans and expectations. Also, the recent we are watching you environment is making staff miserable who already feel overwhelmed. The wrong individuals have been given too much power which is sending NOVA downhill quickly.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?Staff are too often made to feel their not doing enough by micromanaging control freaks. Unprofessional conduct via email or other platforms is quite common. The wrong individuals at this institution have too much say in daily operations.
